The Pac-12 Cares

LARRY.SCOTTPac-12 commissioner Larry Scott was happy this week with the Power 5 Conferences being able to enact reforms for athletes.

“The reforms enacted today, through the proposals we co-sponsored with our peer conferences as well as the proposals sponsored solely by the Pac-12, will give student-athletes more time to pursue academics and better transparency into their schedules, and will prohibit and limit athletics activity during the preseason and offseason.”

It’s just during the season he shows little concern.

What about when Cal has a Friday night home game and then plays at USC the following Thursday against a Trojan team coming off a bye? Or when USC plays at Cal on Saturday and then at Washington State the following Friday next season?

Or when most of Arizona’s conference road games are at night last season? Or when Washington’s basketball team goes to China for a game on Nov. 11, 2015 and then plays its next game Nov. 19 in the Bahamas?

  1. Larry Scott and Scott Wolf could be twins. They both have the same negative thoughts about USC and how to bring USC down.

  2. There is a substantial chance UCLA loses to Az and UCLA deserve it – tough to win with no defense, no offensive RB’s , Hamilton, zero drives, did I mention absolutely no defense. Live by the 3 pointer, die by the three pointer. UCLA has been exposed – where’s the beef? We have no excuses. Come on 1/25/2017, at the Galen Barn.

      • In Wooden’s Pyramid of Success, where would the CHEATING or PAYOLA block go? That would be an interesting dialogue.

    • It’s understandable to want to play us since we won all three meetings last season but i thought you had bigger fish to fry? You were saying that USC isn’t relevant but you seem a little concerned even with Ball, Leaf, and the gang. I was hoping UCLA would be #1 but you sure mucked that up.

      • It would be nice to attach photos of the recruiting class, Marlon is a big boy!

      • Marlon Tui on campus with his family….I’m sure he and family are on double secret probation with Peterson..Ri.a.s believes he’s flipped. Most likely to start class next week. How’s that for a Mega Flip?

          • Assuming it happens. He would be signing this weekend.
Would participate spring. Potential to step in and play fall.
The back story of how this happen is great.

        • This feels like DeAnthony Thomas and his flip to Oregon. We were all going crazy when we found out he visited Oregon. His family is a plus on the trip. Hopefully they brought the U-Haul to start unpacking.

      • There you go again Sammy putting words in my mouth. Kindly remind me when I said bozo u BB is Irrelevant. It’s true I’ve said bozo u’s BB program SUCCs and that’s self evident – they’re 0 forever.

What I have said is irrelevant are your continued whiny retort Bozo u 36 – UCLA 14, in the face of overwhelming ugly bozo facts.

Sammy you just can’t stand to lose, so you go off point to deflect the ugly bozo u truth.

        • ????
It’s self explanatory. We have UCLA in a corner now after winning two in a row and we just won the Rose Bowl….now that might not be important to a Bruin because its been about 30 years since they won a Rose Bowl and it must feel like trying to find the holy grail to you guys but it’s a major accomplishment around college football. We also beat two top 5 teams and we walked out with a #3 AP finish. So after all of that you still have nothing but the usual “it was luck”, “Bama 52-6”, blah blah blah???? Yes, Alabama was too much for us and we were embarrassed, but every analyst or commentator, writer are in agreement that USC is a different program now and that game would be a lot better now. That’s called respect.

And let’s not pretend that we just won the last two meetings by some kind of luck. Those were two beat downs and they clearly sent a message that we’re not the same teams from the previous three seasons.

          • What is self explanatory? Sammy, I think you need an eye opener.

As of yet, UCLA hasn’t lost 4 times, 2 of which bozo u lost by 20 + points.

We’ll see what happens Sunday, on Chick BB day, when bozos play Az State up against the NFL league finals. I see now, bozo u’s overnight game Nielsen rating 0.0000001.

          • THERE

            YOU

            GO

            AGAIN

            CHANGING

            THE

            SUBJECT

****For the record the subect is USC FOOTBALL and how you keep avoiding the truth that USC……
            A. Had a special season
            B. USC IS BACK
            C. USC is in control of the Crosstown Rivalry
            D. All of the above

            Man up and admit it.

  3. Preaching to the choir Wolf. We all know how utterly worthless Larry Scott is to the PAC12.

  4. ‘ruins lose big time at home to AU this afternoon. Now two losses in conference although will easily make the tournament although seeding matters. Trojans must win tomorrow vs. ASU to gain some momentum for upcoming battle on Wed. against Westwood Prep.

    • This sometimes awful USC team isn’t beating a top 10 ucla team. Sorry. Not happening.

Better chances would be for Darnold to come back after he brutalizes the college football world next season. And those chances are nil.

      I think you’re dreaming here.

  5. The people who run college sports are destroying it with their greed. Players, especially football players, are figuring out that they are getting screwed in this system. The powers that be need to recognize the writing on the wall. The trend of players deciding to sit out bowl games will only get worse in the years to come. Also, there is at least one league forming that will allow players to circumvent college altogether and PAY them to do so. The idea that a scholarship and 3 square meals is compensation enough to risk quality of life while shaving years off your life is just wrong. College basketball isn’t what it used to be because players have the opportunity to leave after one year and the best players are taking that opportunity. Once college football players have a viable alternative for getting to the pros, they will leave early or just not come at all. You can’t make the kind of money you make in college sports and not share it with the people who are taking the risks to make it. Either the NCAA needs to change this model or they’re going to kill their golden goose. Anyone not too blinded by greed and nostalgia should be able to see what’s coming.

    • Would think while it’s right for the universities to pay a stipend of some sort, I’m thinking the real solution lays at the feet of the networks. Some sort of combined fund would need to be set up. Alabama, tOSU, Mich,USC’s of the world could pay on their own, but what about the schools with lesser revenue?

      • That’s a good question and I don’t think a good answer to it or many of the other issues with college football can be found in the way that college football is currently structured. The lack of equity that you describe (between programs) and the lack of equity that I describe are just individual results produced by an overall system that itself is fundamentally flawed. Any attempt to address these individual issues is a half-measure by definition.

College football is like a wild tree that needs to be pruned. The entrenched interests (including the networks) are only going to be able to lurch along playing at the margins. I think you need some people from outside of college football to look at it objectively. This is actually something that, for better or for worse, I think DJT would be interested in looking into if the thought ever crossed his mind.

  6. Is there any bigger whiny a** baby than Tim Cates, the host of Post-game Bruin Talk. I was out running errands and was listening to his speil and it rivals that of the morons who are on MSNBC. His opening take; “Is it any wonder that Alonzo Trier was cleared to play against UCLA today? He’s a cheater. He took PEDs and that’s why Arizona won.”
Hey Cates, you wanna talk about cheaters? Look up one John R. Wooden’s record before Sam Gilbert became “The Godfather” of UCLA basketball in the mid 1960’s. Gilbert was so blatant that even the players admitted to what he was doing.
Trier took some medication after he was in a car accident this summer that he did not know what on the banned substance list. He appealed and was cleared by the NCAA when the substance was out of his system. But instead of looking up the facts, Cates does what all the gutty little bruins do; whine, gripe, complain, and make excuses.

    • That three Trier made when he first entered the game was, to quote Charlie, “Sugar Sweet!”

  7. Now, why am I not surprised to see Bunky going off like the first time a drunk discovers his hand is better than nothing.

Whenever the bozo’s lose, Bunky disappears for days on end.

  8. I hope Lynn Swan starts addressing the issue of financial inequity between theP12 and the other major conferences. We are falling well of the pace of the SEC, B10 and the others. Tens of millions of dollars a year per school! This guy projections continue to fall well short. How is USC Football not worth more than Iowa, Vanderbilt etc.?
