USC is ranked No. 11 in the latest Rivals.com recruiting rankings after last night’s commitment of defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu. Scout.com has USC No. 12. The Trojans have 17 commitments and can take six more players.

Meanwhile, at the Senior Bowl, offensive tackle Zach Banner checked in at 6-foot-8 inches, 361 pounds.

      • What else can the official USC negative spin doctor say? USC’s kicking butt in recruiting and has more room to still move up than others.

Birdcage, the Troll’s hero, has been humbled again. Sis, boom, bah!

    • He’s getting that tingly feeling deep down…. he knows he’s staring at a top-5 class with so many scholies available. That’s what a strong finish to the season does for you. And the highest rated non-playoff game in history. It’s all coming up Trojans, it seems.

    • Maybe lacking obvious negative spin, but the intrigue is there – is he saying Zach is too huge to replace?

      • Yeah, if you read between the lines, you’re left with that clear impression, Yolo. Scott-think: No matter what we do, we’ll never have a tackle like Banner again. Gone are the days when Banner was regularly excoriated on this very site.
By the way, young pardner, congrats on marrying such a beautiful woman, inside and out! You are way ahead of the game!

          • I hear he’s in.. But also the mystery flip plays the same position as Tufele. So I am wondering how this may work out.. 2 more decos.. Sam Bam should know..

          • Next we’ll read from the Blogger that USC is over-recruiting at DT like he’s complained about WRs.

          • Lol.. Exactly.. I can’t wait to hear the spin and backlash from the posters here..Especially from Jack, Fred, Sam and 22.

          • Seems to be a situation we have not been in since Patterson/Ellis. So much talent is really a bitch.

          • And let’s not forget about Kenny Bigelow – if he can return and stay healthy then that makes three studs in the DL.

Now, if only someone can convince Pendergast to rotate players.

          • I think with depth and ability he will rotate the heavies more. It is a matter of having them up to speed, mentally and physically.

          • You attack me and you’re the victim? You brainless rah rahs can dish it out but you can’t take it.

          • No. You misunderstood 22.. When I mentioned you and the others..I was saying, you and the others would rebut with the truth.. I didnt clarify entirely .. Was busy yesterday. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

          • Oh ok sorry. I took backlash as a perjorative. I will delete the posts based on my misunderstanding your post.

  1. Why doesn’t he use the consensus 247 rating, it always seems to come out the best. Perhaps he gets a % if he mentions Rivals or Scout enough times.

  2. USC rises to No. 10 in the 247Sports recruiting rankings, where Marlon Tuipulotu is rated as the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle.

And perhaps best of all, Washington is now without a DT commit and has a team ranking of No. 21. And this comes off a run at the National Championship.

    • Helen, look at their composite and he is #5. Look at their raw ranking and he is #1. Can’t see what is pulling him down.

      • Recruiting rankings aren’t perfect, but safe to say anyone in the top 10 at their position is a very good player. What reveals the most is completion against other good players and at the U.S. Army All-American game he shined,

Now if he can also bring in the nation’s No. 2 defensive tackle Jay Tufele then Helton deserves a raise.

      • He doesn’t look like the fastest guy, but then you don’t really need to be as a DT.

    • If you want to read something funny check out the comments under the article at the OregonLive website, these guys hate the Huskeys with a passion and even though Marlon spurned the Ducks, burning the Dawgs was a victory for them

  3. Hey Michael G – we are further on the way up with this guy! DT #2 Tufele on deck, and ’17 could be great season!

    • They are both ranked as the #1 DT by at least one service. It’s looking like a we’re gonna have as a special DLine class coming in.

  4. You have to trust the coaching staff’s ability to judge which recruits they go after & sign will grow in talent & execution to play college ball. All you really know is what they have done on the highschool football field with the competition they played there. A real crapshoot sometimes. If you get 3 maybe 4-players from a recruiting class that become starters and contribute to wins, that is considered a success?

    • Scholastics I think are coming into play more for USC, seeing how the average gpa is above 3.0. An intelligent team can be taught so much more in less time spent in having to repeat over.

  5. None of the USC offensive lineman will test well at the NFL combine , because they all played out of shape . I think Zack Banner will be whipped into shape by whatever team drafts him, but Damian Mama may have some issues.

  6. Good to have the extra D line big bodies on the sidelines when the drive-by’s start ins South Central.
