Khaliel Rodgers To Iowa State

IOWA.STATEUSC offensive/defensive lineman Khaliel Rodgers has decided to transfer to Iowa State. Rodgers played quite a bit in 2015 at center and started 10 games at center/guard. But then switched to defensive line, where USC’s depth was thin and he would presumably play more. Unfortunately, for Rodgers, center Toa Lobendahn tore his knee ligaments and Nico Falah replaced him for most of the season. At least Rodgers won’t need to get used to Iowa State’s colors.

Here’s a revealing quote from Rodgers: “I felt like it hurt me a little bit me being an East Coast guy (at USC) and them having West Coast recruits come in year after year. They take that serious out there, so it was kind of hard for me to put my stamp on things.”

  1. Ah, the days of ’70’s QBs Jimmy Jones (PA) and Vince Evans (NC). SC has always used players from coast-to-toast, border-to-border.

Good for Rodgers. Maybe he can get on the field again. He’s another example of a recruiting service paper tiger who made both the Scout and Rival Top 100 after playing on a team from Maryland that only had a 3-game schedule. As a JR, he played in Delaware.

By the way. always-injured Kenny Bigelow followed the exact same prep path as Rodgers did.

  2. I like Rodgers, sorry to seem him go. He was one of the most ardent recruiters of other players when he was coming in. Both him and Jordan Simmons were guys I thought would be anchoring the interior, but things didn’t work out that way. The coaching turnover certainly didn’t help. Hope he gets a chance to shine at ISU

  3. Oooh Scottie. Such a hater, everything some kid says is made into negativity by you. How about this: Rodgers wasn’t good enough to command a full time starting position. Somehow, 5 guys start on the O-Line each year and roughly, every two years there is an opportunity to move up when guys become upperclassmen. And, Scott…I know you don’t know this but USC has to keep recruiting linemen each year and most of them are going to be from the west coast. If that’s a conspiracy, there’s a doozie about you! Rodgers can’t handle the fact he couldn’t get a starting spot-that’s just the way it is. And, even his alibi is flawed. In recruiting, when a college team goes way out of the area to get a kid, it’s expected that the kid will be a major contributor. In Rodger’s case, he probably came along riding Bigelow’s tail. As for Wolfie, no excuse. Like the new guy, you believe in alternative facts…’nuff said

  4. Hey guys, easy on bashing Khaliel Rogers. USC recruited him to make sure Bigelow did not go somewhere else in the last minute. Rogers was originally rated a 3 star, but he was a beast in practice and after he received his late offer from Kiffin, recruiting services upgraded him to 4 stars. He is an example of embarrassment of riches. He easily switched positions, played a really good center when he got a chance. It is sad to see him go, but even though he was an amazing backup and he was buried under the depth chart at USC. I wish Rogers nothing but the best!

  5. He’ll get more PT at Iowa State – fight on Khaliel – thanks for everything you did for the Trojan Family!

  6. So what if he transferred, and good for him, because it’s not always about the NFL, sometimes players want to play.

  7. Yes Khaliel – the coaches thought you were a great player and could really help the team win, but you weren’t from the west coast so they didn’t play you.

  8. Good luck to Rogers, I hope he succeeds in his dreams. But couldn’t he do better than Iowa St. ?
