With 5-7 commitments expected tomorrow, it seems inevitable USC will move up in the recruiting rankings. Players like wide receiver Joseph Lewis are considered a lock for USC. But here’s a wild-card pick: Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw has changed his announcement to tomorrow night. Last weekend, he was expected to choose South Carolina. His other choice is USC. Is this delay a good omen for the Trojans?

  2. Will Muschamp is a horrible coach, but a fantastic recruiter, so the change of announcement may not mean a thing

    • Pessimist/realist in me says Levi Jones, Solomon , Tupele & Falo are not coming. Even with those disappointments the class should still be in the 5-7 range. And it looks like will fill positions of need.

    • Agree. Sad thing is those South Carolina kids are mommas boys who have to stay close to home.

Add five-star receiver Joseph Lewis, five-star defensive tackle Jay Tufele, five-star offensive tackle Austin Jackson, and the nation’s No. 1 athlete Greg Johnson, And four-star #2 Tight End Josh Falo (No “Elite” talent could be stupid enough to sign with the current Oregon Quacks, and if so, then GO!)

    AND…

    The USC Trojan Class 2017 is a Top-3 !!! (23 recruits is less than 25)

    AND… Part two, #1 DT Solomon is not over yet, His Parents “LOVED” SoCal !

    Currently DLine is numero uno !

    • Rick, I hope you are speaking from an informed place rather than your heart. Would love to see it all play out as you suggest; but I have seen too many last minute changes in years past to feel as confident as you.

    • Tufele is one I’m waiting the most to hear he signed.Then Jackson..
      I believe when some services do top class ratting they take top 20.
      Regardless if we sign the 4 you mentioned,plus carr and the other verbals it will be a HUGE class.2018 is well underway.

  5. If you look at rivals 5 star ratings, less than half of 5 star recruits get drafted.

    I won’t get excited about any kid until I see him on the college field.

    • Concerning the site you mentioned,did you see the post about 2007? It gave an update to where the top 100 are today.Very sobering. 4 have passed away.#2 McKnight included.

I was delighted to see the delay on Kinlaw,he may be rethinking…and choosing the real SC…I know we missed out on the JCO Texas linebacker,still hoping for the high school one….that JUCO one is ready for the NFL now.The class is super fine right now, add some of those people want would make it a #4 or #5.

  7. If USC doesn’t have a top 5 or 6 class then recruiting just isn’t a strength for this staff. I’m fully expecting to be in the top 5 tomorrow and I’m expecting to get some guys who can help immediately. USC is spring-loaded right now and average recruiters should be able to get a top 5 or 6 class. Anything short of that and I feel like we’re falling down a little bit in that area.

    • I was impressed by how they closed last year, despite firing quite a few coaches in December ’15.

      • They pulled it out at the end, but Kiffin and Sark did more with less time and fewer scholarships.

        This staff doesn’t have to be superior recruiters because they make up for it in other areas. However, with the USC brand, lack of sanctions, returning personnel and on-field momentum, USC should be bringing in a top 5 or 6 class without question.

  9. Recruiting News.. Several RE’s are blogging that Aubrey Solomon has given USC a call and wants in .. I also confirmed my intel who shares Levi Jones who looks like a FSU lean has told USC he is still open to USC if they want him. There is two possible chess moves and adding 2 blue shirts ..

          • Cool. Yesterday the rumor was Kinsley told South Carolina staff he was in. Either that was just gossip or he is still thinking it over. He would be icing on the cake.

          • Another strange turn of events. Kind of but, Oregon has been badmouthing USC on the recruitment of Falaniko, they told him USC would drop him on signing day for something better while he is their 1st priority. To show good faith Nansen flew up to his home with a letter of intent and he still backed off.

          • He might not be needed.. Taggert will not be in Oregon long and it seems thats the recruiting tactics of the SEC to the East..

          • Falaniko won’t be a blue shirt. For one thing he’s had his at home visit by Johnny Nansen. That takes care of any blue shirt. Two, he has his LOI handed to him by Nansen at the Poly Bowl in Hawaii last week. A recruit can’t sign the LOI until Feb. 1st at the earliest. Just wait until tomorrow.

          • I think he’s made his mind up. I get all that. He’s obviously been sold on Oregon. All the SC sites have predicted he’s gone. He was recruited as a S/LB. Pola-Mao and Bolden might have factored into his decision. I say he’s a Duck.

          • They all say he’s a flip to Oregon. Not a big deal but i was hoping he would stick. GMART feels the same. But like you said wait until tomorrow.

          • I’m not taking it personal. Just trying to stop to all these needless rumors. Could Falaniko go to Oregon? Sure. Just like Carr could sign with UCLA. All this speculation doesn’t mean anything at because commits don’t mean anything at all…..FightvOn!

          • FWIW Gmart also says Falo is going to SC and they disagree. SS and Swanson broke the Tuipulotu before Gmart. I like GMART but i trust SS a lot more. Just my feeling with the two.

          • Solomon wants to be a broadcaster. USC is strong in this area. Does Michigan have a good broadcasting school/degree?

          • Unless he’s just blurting out crap it’s a no brainer. The path to the NFL and broadcasting goes through USC. Hopefully he has the right people in his corner.

          • Damn, per Chris Swanson. Just read right now that Levi Jones may be signing with FSU. He says it’s a reliable source but is still going with SC as his pick. Thought I’d pass that along since it’s fresh.

  10. I do too, when you look at articles from national or other regional sites,they don’t even mention USC when talking about Solomon.

    • Unless they have word he’s told Michigan he’s in i like our chances. Anything can happen between now and tomorrow. If anything Tuipulotu and Tufele had to have influenced him that they might be too tough to battle as freshman. Still keeping hope alive until he signs on the dotted line.

        • Yeah, that gives some hope. Maybe he’s having 2nd thoughts.

          And FWIW Michigan247 is still wondering where Aubrey Solomon will sign. He’s their “only drama” for signing day. You never know with 17-18 year olds.

          • Accept that he is a no, and if he does sign you will feel like it is Christmas. And if he doesn’t sign you will have already accepted it and will be able to move on.

          • Exactly. I really want him, but I’m all set with the class and we’ve exceeded my expectations already with two top DT’S in Tuipulotu and Tufele. That’s all I’ve wanted since August was a couple of big time DT’s and we will have that. Solomon would be a bonus.

      We are golden without him…you’ll see…and Kinlaw is likely the other USC, but we get Amosa, Lichtenstein, and Beast Echols…mark my words…Hunter will come off the edge someday and knock someone’s head off…he’s that good

      • Pili, Lichtenstein, Echols, Tuipulotu, Tufele is a great class. Could be All Timer status years from now.

        • Yup… And I’ve watched Pilis film! He’s VERY different from T and T…absolutely has the 6’4″ 330 lb space eater body type! He plays hard and Lang will push him…im watching these “brick and mortar ” guys Sam!!

  12. Sorry I’m late gents but I was working (I’m a man of the people) Clay has already proven himself as a leader of men, a coach, and now a recruiter…he deserves the opportunity to mold and lead this class…let’s enjoy the stability, maturity, and class that is coach Helton.
    As an alum, I’ve often had to answer for the poor behavior of past coaches…I haven’t for the character or performance (after week 4, admittedly) of this one. Let’s enjoy tomorrow and all make a commitment to be at the spring game to see for ourselves where our Trojan program has landed in the landscape of our favorite sport…

  13. Its me. Me too. I was hoping Falo would be a Trojan. Give him time to put on some weight and he would dangerous. Should be a great day tomorrow. Would love to end with Solomon.

    • Sam, was telling Pudly how I’m ok with where we are with big Myron T and Echols…I think Tufele is our lean as well.
      Have you seen Echols film??!! He is a man among boys! Tossing and slapping quality guys like schoolgirls…and Amosa is a beast…

      In case we have forgotten that Betiku will be here for at least 2 more years ripping people’s heads off…and WTF taking off his redshirt??!!??

      • Echols is very underrated in my opinion. He added 25 pounds and we’ll be tough off the edge. Gustin, Betiku, Murphy, Echols. We look good there.
