USC Recruiting Thought

Imagine in 2010 hearing someone say that in 2017, Clay Helton finished fifth in Scout’s recruiting rankings, Ed Orgeron was seventh and Lane Kiffin was 78th. And Steve Sarkisian was off the board.

  1. What does Helton have to do with recruiting, when USC recruits itself?
It’s going to be a long summer on this blog. Kiffin, Sark, Poll, 3 stars, Baby QB, and more of the same cycle.

    • The USC brand continued to stay strong, even with the sanctions.. Helton also has restored confidence in the program based on the past two recruiting cycles…

    • Exactly. A characteristic of a person who has an agenda, is incompetent, or is just not that bright, is that they constantly contradict themselves.

  2. In 2010 I would have said Clay who? Why stop with recruiting? If someone had told me I’d be rooting for a redshirt freshman quarterback or a football catching long jump star, I would have said, ” interesting can you also tell me who wins the world series?”

      • Tuiasosopo being let go was a deal breaker, but like you said he probably misses home and his heart was all USC.

And USC is the crystal ball leaders already for about 7 players already in the new 247 predictions. #1 WR in the nation Jalen Hall from Hawkins has all of his CB’s picked for USC. #1 OLB Palaie Gaoteote has a new one for USC after Ohio State was thought to be the leader. That kid is a freaking stud! USC is going to get tbe the Bishop Gorman kids from here on. 5-Star galore. Kids everywhere are raving about USC for the next class.

        • It will be interesting to see if we do get him. Helton could pass and he either goes to Cal or Ucla.

          • I agree. Cal would be comfortable for him since he’s from up that way and Wilcox and Tui are familiar with him and his buddy signed with UGLY so they have a shot. Now that i think of it i would pass on him. Breiden Fehoko and Josh Frazier are beasts and we need more DT’S.

          • Yeah he does.
            I know it’s early. But….
I’m calling it right here, right now……
USC will have the best LB group in the 2018 Cycle. We’re gonna sign some big time LB’S that rival the Gustin, Cam, Houston, and Masina class. Might even be better.

          • I hated him for so long, but i respected him and always liked his game. He’s solid and has postseason experience.
Dan is this you and did you get banned?

          • I did again also the day before signing day. Didn’t do anything. But now that i think of it Drains the Swamp lured me into another one of his racist traps. An hour later i was banned. Oh well.

          • All I remember was someone said something funny and I commented LMAO.. The comment was funny but harsh and must have hit a nerve.. I was in the line of fire..lol..

          • From what it feels like. Well at least to me. Once you get banned the first time younare monitored closely or more than the rest. I made a 100% clean and rainbow happy comment and for some reason it was being checked or whatever my the moderator. Weird.

          • Exactly.. And yet he allows the trolls free reign on the site .. Several should be banned for their ignorance alone lol

          • You’re right Pete! My buddy said the same thing. And it’s seriously possible because we’re on a roll and we need ILB’s and OLB’s.

          • Tell me about it. Nothing is for sure, but we look like we’re in really good shape with 2018 kids.

          • This class is also special for CB’s, and we’ll take several of them, as the top backs are mostly out west.

          • Does anyone know the roster total so far? Do we have 85 now, or do we have room for any blue/grey shirts?

          • McKenzie blue shirt will make 84.Lang to Colorado opens his spot. So we have one as of this weekend.

At least 4 transfers with USC interest.Of course our staff quiet at moment

        • What we don’t know at this point is how many spots we have come 2018 class.Could be from 18-23

          • True. I’d take a shot at Frazier. I think we’ll hear more about transfers leading up to spring ball.

          • He’s 6-8 340. Not sure on his weight. He’s started 18 games. I read a comment saying they believe he may end up in the Big12. Is SC interested?

          • There’s a trend in Pac to allow unrestricted transfer.(Utah,USC).Word is he is putting out a number of feelers,we being one.

          • Chuma Edoga should be ready to step into a starting role. LT or RT is the question. But if Helton signs off on that kid I’m all for it because i haven’t heard much on the improvement of Roy Hemsley and Clayton Johnson.

        • Maybe it’s the weather, not the same in Michigan as it is here, and the poly culture just isn’t there either.

    • USC is aware he wants to transfer from UM.Staff is evaluating where and how he would fit. He’s listed at 287…DE ? TE? At this point do we make room ? My opinion ,probably not. There’s at least 3 other players looking to transfer, with us as possible place…
Lang may be off to Colorado…..So if so ,do we see Devin as DE.?

      • You make a good point. As a TE he’s too big. And with the ride count being unknown i think we should try and take Frazier and/or Fehoko if they can.

      • Don’t have to make room. He sits out a year and comes in 2018. Would I take take him? Hell yes! As far a Frazier? He’s still enrolled at Alabama. Fehoko would be the same as Asiasi. 2018.

  3. The only thing that’s surprising is Clay Helton’s name being mentioned, because Lane Kiffin, and Steve Sarkisian treated him like a figure head coordinator. I always knew Ed Orgeron would be a head coach somewhere, because he’s a great leader of men, maybe not the best x’s and o’s guy, but that’s what top coordinators are for, and that’s exactly what he has now. There was something about Sarkisian that was sleazy, so I’m not shocked at the way his life has turned. And as we witnessed with Kiffin, being a coordinator for Nick Saban, does not automatically lead to a major program. Both Kiffin, and Sarkisian lack leadership skills, and high character, standards.

    • Agree Fred, I think both are good assistant coaches but are not cut from the right cloth to be head coaches. Their egos keep getting in their way.

  4. I don’t always compare apples to oranges but when I do I compare the SEC and PAC12 teams with Conf USA teams and their rankings…Kiffin’s FAU recruiting class finished 1st in Conf USA / 247, mostly 3 star , several 4 star and 2 star…and what does it matter as uknow who would say

  5. Helton should not even be considered, he didn’t do anything to help USC. Thankfully we all know USC did it all on its own.

  6. I would totally be like who the f is clay helton. Sark is at Washington so like who cares, Everyone thinks Lane sucks, so I guess they were right an he’s at FAU so that’s double proof, Ed probably packed his bags with Lane and who the helton is clay again? What team does he coach? and why am I wasting my time thinking about this? Which is what I’m actually saying right now aloud.
