USC Commit Matt Corral Leaves Oaks Christian High School

Matt Corral, a five-star QB for the Class of 2018 and USC commit, is no longer enrolled at Oaks Christian High School. His departure is allegedly related to a disciplinary matter, according to this story.

In a since-deleted tweet, Corral said: “I did not get expelled nor did I punch anyone. I ran into problems at a school that is biased towards money.”

Oaks Christian, where Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky and Will Smith had sons playing at one time, biased toward money? Who would ever guess that?

Corral did not say where he would transfer. It would make sense to go to nearby Westlake, where Corral’s Oaks Christian offensive coordinator, Tim Kirksey, was hired in December. Corral would likely need to attend another school for the rest of this year, so he does not violate a CIF rule about following a coach to a new school. He could also transfer to Chaminade, which lost QB Brevin White to Paraclete.

  1. From what I’ve seen this kid has an absolute cannon for an arm, but he hit me as a bit of an immature hothead in interviews. Hopefully, he will have grown up internally by the time he arrives at SC making the the post-Darnold QB competition more interesting with Jack Sears, who’s already showing his incredible mental maturity.

    • I can’t speak to his social maturity. However the interview I read over year ago about his academic business plan at USC far exceeded that of most HS,heck maybe college kids.
His quotes ,clearly showed his focus was on the opportunity USC business degrees would open his life to after graduation….

      • That’s interesting, because I thought he looked and sounded like a typical and average local high school kid in the interviews I saw in videos. Anyhow, we might be getting way ahead of ourselves to discuss and compare the future QBs since Corral isn’t even with our team yet. Let’s hope for the best!

        • Totally agree about getting ahead of ourselves. What I read was shortly after his commit. He mentioned he and his father visited the campus. With Coach Tyson Helton they discussed completing bachelor’s degree early.Basically following Cody’s example… That example ,was one big part of his commit..A lot happens in the mind of 16 year olds.

  2. Paraclete High School. Small school out in Lancaster. Look at their schedule. They don’t back down from any school.

    • For his personal growth trust he will find a southern California school that will be great for his personal and football maturity…He has been getting offers from IMG ,Florida. Then there’s Bishop G.

        • Palaie Gaoteote is the defensive must get of the 2018 class..USC could land the best LB class of the decade…
Matt is a USC recruiting plant where ever he goes for year HS.Curious if he will be Early enroll..would think so.

          • Palaie Gaoteote has Rey Maualuga’s game in him.
MUST GET DEFENSIVE PLAYER FOR 2018.

With OLB Raymond Scott, OLB Bo Calvert already committed, we have to give OLB Palaie Gaoteote and ILB Solomon Tuliapupu the red carpet treatment and make them Trojan. Merlin Robertson from Serra would be the a fifth LB (ILB) since we are trying to take 5.

            OLB-Calvert
            OLB-Raymond Scott
            OLB-Palaie Gaoteote
            ILB-Solomon Tuliapupu
            ILB-Merlin Robertson

That group has National Championship potential. Add Levi Jones, Talor Katoa, Juliano Falaniko and that is a Pete Carroll/Ken Norton worthy bunch. Helton better tell Pendergast that he’s gonna have to get off the couch if he wants Elite players.

          • I know we’re not hurting for WR’S, buy we should go hard to sign Amon-Ra St. Brown. He reminds me of Steve Smith with his quick precise route running that can beat defenses. Him with Jalen Hall and Manuel Allen would be a dangerous trio of weapons outside.

          • Yes St. Brown has huge potential.Maybe highest of family.Staff is at front door.I think his recruitment will be a rollercoaster ride.He likes to troll us.
The staff proved their ability to close.Provided we prove on the field again, any prosect we really want,we will have excellent shot at.There’s always those that have their hearts set elsewhere.

          • That LB is a stud. He sheds blocks and attacks the line of scrimmage. He’s a really good tackler and can hit hard, speedy and athletic. Palaie Gaoteote is a must get. We’re gonna have to fight off Ohio State, Alabama.

          • The way SC finished off the season with big wins over Washington and Penn St, and that we were able to sign Bubba Bolden when Ohio State wanted him is a good start for USC’s chances now with Bishop Gorman kids.. We look stable and ready to start rolling again.

  3. A perfect example of what’s wrong with high school sports and blue chip athletes these days.

  4. We see examples of gifted athletes who have been given priviledge in their young lives and maybe some of it is parents living thru their child. You hope for the young person’s sake they learn some humility before arriving on the college scene or they could come crashing down off their mountain and not do too well.
All I can say is, if Clay Helton can swing Sears, Corral & the Mater Dei junior QB phenom into signing, it will be a competition for the ages.

  5. The last Oaks Christian QB to transfer was another 5-Star and at the time the top qb. That was two years ago. And also for disciplinary matters. He’s not even at Florida St anymore.

    JUST SAYING.

    Should we be worried?

  6. Lat time I checked, I also belong to the “Trojan base” you’re speaking of. LOL! So from where do you base what you stated? Do you know all the details on the situation or are you speculating?

  7. He went transferred to IMG Academy, he got into trouble there, then he went to Calabasas or tried. Something like that. My memory is a little fuzzy, but he had immature behavior all the way.
