Is Anyone Watching USC Basketball?

USC is not a basketball school. The downside is the consistently low-attendance figures. The upside for a coach is that the program escapes scrutiny that schools like UCLA, Arizona or even Oregon face in the Pac-12.

For example, is anyone even discussing whether forward Chimezie Metu deserves any type of punishment for attempting to trip an Oregon player and following up with a slap on the back of another Oregon player that resulted in a flagrant foul?

The Pac-12 appears to be leaving it up to USC. That means Andy Enfield must decide. Will he do anything? USC plays UCLA on Saturday so there’s little incentive to bench Metu. And even less incentive when nobody cares. That’s the good part of coaching basketball at USC, from a coach’s perspective.

  1. Okay, good point. Likely no one is asking because of that and maybe because there was no blood or broken bones. Let’s see what the coach does. Meantime, we want the non-basketball school to beat the non-football school for the 4th straight time on the court! Fight On!

  2. I’m watching, to the dismay of my wife. She usually just expects the madness to end with the football season ending. Not for me with a USC basketball team that has somewhat of a heartbeat. I’ll support.

  3. Didn’t really watch 2 yrs. Ago.
    Last year started watching again.
This year started following the recruits. Was excited for start of season.Watching every game I can.

I also watched when USC without shot clock, held the ball and beat ucla in Boyd era.

USC sports following is at its absolute best when ALL SPORTS are competitive for titles.

  4. Your correct SW. USC, like Alabama, is a football school. Kentucky, like UCLA, is a Basketball school.

  5. Who isn’t watching? With players like Don Carfino and Cliff Robinson out on the court, whew!

  6. At a school that hired a known boozer and didn’t fire him even after FightOnGate, what do you expect? Zero chance he is benched.

    • Just like when Johnny “Cheetin” Wooden was buying 10 national championships, nothing was done. As far as Metu is concerned, have him sit 5 minutes out at their next home game, Washington St. and have him run one extra lap.

  7. Why should the disinterested follow USC mens basketball? Troy has had many years to do something other that hire average coaches who recruited some above average players who then flailed and lost in a decrepit haunted house (Sports Arena) and then replicated that same ‘tango’ since Galen opened in 2008.

Enfield is the first bright light in my lifetime as a head coach that seems to be building something ‘but’ until the masses see something other than what they have ignored for 60+ years why attend?

  8. Normally my disagreements with you are easy to isolate. In this case I actually appreciate your point. Metu should be disciplined in some mode and measure…….but after the season is over….heh, heh.
