  1. This is too bad because the hype rarely matches performance. The pressure to live up to expectations can wilt some players.

      • Exactly… Sam (and Jack Sears) have that certain thing inside of them. Did you see Darnold on the sidelines of the Rose Bowl in the 4th quarter? Cool as a cucumber And the Downtown Athletic Club is not going to crown Lamar Jackson as a back-to-back winner if he can’t win on the field consistently.

        • Jackson certainly did not impress at the end of last season. I was pissed he won. But there wasn’t much competition – bad Heisman year. Hopefully Sam can harness this momentum and carry on right where he left off.

    • Yup, but as long as he’s healthy Darnold has the IT factor that will impress.
In hind sight, he’s head and shoulder’s above Barkley in the IT category.

  2. Sam Darnold, Please give your Coaches, your Teammates, and Us at least two more years. FIGHT ON !!!

    • If he tears up opponents this year, I would say he has to leave if he has NFL aspirations.

He would actual be more well served if he went in a lower round to a competent franchise with an established QB, instead of just going to the worst possible team (high draft pick).

      • Disqus 30, Matt Leinert started his Sophomore Year with Matt Cassell a Junior, and John David Booty a Freshmen. First game, Leinert and the Trojans defeat Auburn on the road 23-0. Matt Leinert leads the Trojans to two consecutive National Championships before losing the heart breaker to Texas in the 2006 Rose Bowl Game. It’s my understanding that Sam Darnold has at least two years of eligibility remaining. The 2017 and 2018 recruiting is, and will be, sensational. Why not stay a second year and win one, maybe two, National Championships as pay back to the NCAA, and the corrupt folks who are/were responsible for the complete bogus near death penalty sanctioned against our Trojans crippling our chances for 6, even seven years. Pay Back would be BITCH for the entire 1A NCAA Football Community !!!

        • Watch out for that moderator. It’s his hunting season…

Yes, jettisoned into the national spotlight this past seaskn and continuing that run would be awesome in the faces of those apart of our sanctions.

        • Actually, he has three years remaining. But for his own self interest, I don’t think he should stay more than two, and we’d be lucky to get that. He risks too much to play out his eligibility, it’s a different world these days and the money’s just too much to risk. That being said, I hope he stays, I just don’t think he will.

          • He has to go after this season. I would love for Sam Darnold to be a Trojan as long as possible. But the fact is he’s the projected #1 pick in the NFL Draft by everyone and if he stays and goes down then it was a selfish move by us and the people who did not tell him to go. He’s said to the people around him (according to Garry Pasqwitz) that he wants to play in the NFL and is eyeing this as his last season as a college football player. Let’s hope he stays healthy and we make a great run for the National Championship.

          • I know you’re right, but we can all wish, hope and dream. But the reality is the money’s just too much to risk, and it is just a foolish pipe dream to expect more. However, some students still will stay till their course work is complete, oh no here I go again….

          • I am also hoping he stays. Don’t see it happening. Just hope he has a reason like back to back national championships.

        • I see, you want him to do what’s best for our enjoyment, not the best for his professional
          career. Ok.

      • Disqus 30, where do you come off saying Sam Darnold “has to leave” the program. Sam Darnold doesn’t “Have to do” S@it, in a manner of speaking.

        • Read my post.
I even started out with “If” so the reader would not have to make assumptions.

    • Not happening, just hope we bring home that National Title….
National Title is the mission at hand. Sam will carry us on his back and we just have to get off every once in a while to give him a breath. He’s got one thing on his mind and it’s not a Rose Bowl or a Heisman. He’s going to the NFL and a National Championship is what he’ll be working for and we’ll have to just be thankful that we had him this long in the first place.

      • I don’t know. Sam strikes me as somebody that would stay just because he’s having fun — San Clemente surfer kid mentality ya know.

  3. It will all depends on how the trojans do next year. That will all depend on whether you have a healthy Darnold. So far he has been lucky considering that Darnold got hurt in his Junior and Senior year in High School. Hopefully, he can stay healthy because I don’t see a real good replacement behind him. You have Matt Fink(a redshirt freshman), Jalen Greene(a high school QB turned receiver) or Jack Sears(a true freshman). Take your pick.

  4. The Heisman is nice but so what?
I just do not get all the attention this ESPN Television product receives.
If Sam get the trophy great, but there is no need to even talk about this until he is there at the ESPN TV award show.
Again if he gets it woo hoo!
    What matters is the W’s!

    Football is fun!

    • Sam is such a team player, unless something/someone flics his bic unexpectedly, he will not let the Heisman paparazzi bother his play-concentration. His demeanor is solid-ice on the field right now.

  5. Let’s focus on going undefeated and winning the PAC 12 outright. The rest will take care of itself.
