Matt Corral To Long Beach Poly

The rumors were true. Quarterback Matt Corral has enrolled at Long Beach Poly, according to coach Antonio Pierce. Since Corral is moving from Ventura, he should be eligible at Poly. Of course, he could probably stay in Ventura and still be eligible at Poly. Just joking!

Now here would an interesting aside. Corral said when he left, “I did not get expelled nor did I punch anyone. I ran into problems at a school that is biased towards money.”

That is important because if you do not leave a school in good standing because of some violation of the rules, you might not be eligible under CIF rules.

Wolfy, we don’t waste our time in this blog for your attempts humor. Please stick to your day job. Maybe try to break a story for once instead of you needing to quote ESPN or LA Times as your source.

  2. I hope it works out for him. Wouldn’t have let my children run from problems, but I don’t know what exactly happened so I can’t judge what led to his parents decision. Hope that this isn’t an indication of a lack of what we used to call intestinal fortitude, and I’m hoping that this won’t initiate a pattern of running away from problems.
But, clearly in my mind this is what should have been a life lesson of some sort, and the burden of how this turns out will rest with the young man, and not his parents, who I’m thinking are directing /guiding him.
Wish him the best, at least Poly offers good instruction and competition….

  3. I get the fact in 2017 the world isn’t as it was in 1967. Many potentially gifted athletes are aiming high at a far younger age.

This is what is puzzling – Long Beach Poly is as far from Oaks Christian as Newport Beach is from Compton. Atlantic Ave. south of PCH is real world – street wise tech – and conversely a bottom feeder academically.

Matt looks a lot like those lead actors in those joke films ‘The Last Samurai’ or the latest one ‘The Great Wall’ – another white bread who has come to lead all to that big title.

    • Long Beach is one of the richest schools in California due its old and new money. Additionally, it is not a bottom feeder academically.

      • Ok…..16th and Atlantic…..yeah that makes sense….a rich public school in the hood….never mind about Wilson to the east or Millikan….Poly cousin is Jordan

          • Look old money nor a pipeline to the NFL doesn’t change the culture of a school esp. that one – it’s a AA gladiator academy. The real ‘palyahs’ go to the AAA LAUSD HS

          • Here are some of the Colleges L.B Poly footballers will be attending in 2017: Aaron Shampklin (Harvard), Zion Bowens (Air Force), Nolan McDonald (Air Force).
How did they get into highly academic schools like that going to a AA gladiator academy?

          • Same reason any skilled athlete does – they’re wanted.

Hey Ryan D has a list of counters to your ‘Stand and Deliver’ motif…..come on now bossie…that’s it stick your head out

          • So you don’t think child rearing has nothing to with how productive a person becomes. It up the the person. No matter the enviroment a person is raised? Really?

          • Who said anything about ‘child rearing’? I’m a teacher in the inner city. Drop kick your Elizabeth Warren idiocy elsewhere

          • The point I’m trying to make is the curriculum is there at LB Poly for these kids to get into Harvard or Air Force Academy. The reason these kid are successful is because of good child rearing. Parents have the most influence on their children then anyone else. Why do you think on average inner city schools don’t test well? Its because of no accountably at home. Now, why don’t you reheat some frijoles with a couple of tortillas have a Dos XX’s and chill.

          • There has always been and shall always be those in any academic setting who realize what a great future to be had if they plan for such. The bulk of the students do not.

Again who said anything about parents or child rearing? You’re the one who stated such first

  4. Historically, players that bounce around to different high schools, never seem to pan out in college, especially if they feel entitled.
