Deland McCullough Hired As USC Running Backs Coach

Indiana running backs coach Deland McCullough has accepted a similar position at USC. He spent the past five years at Indiana and before that was at Miami of Ohio for two seasons. Indiana set 19 rushing records during his tenure. Perhaps even better, USC hired an assistant without Western Kentucky ties or presumably some other inside connection.

  1. Looking at other sources I would say it is a good hire. And we should have plenty to work with if he does his job. I’d like to see a break out running back at the beginning of the season.

  2. He’s definitely coming into a good sitaution, that’s for sure. Team on the rise, quality stable and depth of backs. Seems like a no-brainer move on the coach’s part.

  3. OK, I’ll have to watch Indiana play on utube and catch what the RBs look like with & without the ball. Ron Gould might have been a better hire but as usual, USC waits around until the better candidate is goes elsewhere (unless Gould wanted to stay up north?).

  4. Very good hire. Up and coming coach who is a good recruiter and was a star RB himself. Why get a re-tread like Ron Gould when you can get someone like this.

  5. Any relation to Oregon great Saladin McCullough and some other kid that played football somewhere?

  6. Wasn’t there a fellow named McCullough of USC track & field fame who ran relays with O.J.?
