USC Quick Thought

With Matt Corral transferring to Long Beach Poly, it is hardly unique. Many kids transfer these days. But it does illustrate just how low key Sam Darnold was in high school and remains today at USC. One thing that makes Darnold so unique is how much he avoids drama and is unchanged from his newfound fame.

  1. Sam has been a cool customer. I hope the line can provide protection this year.

    • Old Trojan, I believe our offensive line has some profound question marks going into the 2017 season. Can the loss of Banner, Wheeler, and Mama be overcome ?

    • His attitude is a secret to his success: confidence…. when you have it you don’t need to blab it out.

  2. I wonder if Scottie will stick with his new meme. If not for Darnold, USC would be losing every game. The coaching staff is bailed out by Darnold in every game. We really shouldn’t have star players because then it doesn’t allow you to know how good the median player is… nonsense.. but I feel that he’ll continue it into the 2017 season. Wonder if he’ll do the same with Sears?

    • We have a load of 5 stars in need of direction. In Darnold we trust! What a young man crush sw has for Sam.

  3. D Weber with a great bio on our new coach, really worth the read, seems Helton can find em..

  4. The difference with Sam and Corral is Sam was recruited a little late and definitely under the radar whereas Corral has been a heralded recruit since he was a sophomore. Right?

    • I have no idea what happened to Corral, but as a poor scholarship kid attending a rich-kid prep high school, I can imagine, so I am inclined to give Corral a break.

However, his very public protesting suggests his attitude was, in part, “Hey, I am a star jock. Cut me some slack!” That can become problematic.

      • Could potentially be a problem. From the little I’ve seen of him (I don’t go big on recruiting) in highlights, he seems pretty solid. But those are what they are: highlights. Hopefully he keeps it together.
