Picture Of The Day

Here is a picture from the 1967 USC-UCLA game. It features quite a few notable players: UCLA QB Gary Beban (16) won the Heisman Trophy; USC defensive ends Jimmy Gunn (56) and Tim Rossovich (88) were All-Americans. Gunn was also part of the Wild Bunch defensive line. Defensive tackle Bubba Scott (71) was another member of the Wild Bunch. Defensive tackle Gary Magner (75) was a fourth-round pick by the New York Jets.

    • Oh well, it was bound to happen. I’m thinking we might lose one of our linebackers soon too.

      • Raymond Scott? There’s a good chance USC will get Solomon Tuliaupupu. If that happens? Here comes Malauga, Mathews, Cushing and Maiava, version II.

          • Hypothetical. Let’s say a UW player needed to come home. He’s from SoCal. Maybe his dad is sick. He has expressed interest in transferring to USC. This player is a starter at UW and is one of their leading tacklers. If it was up you, would you accept him. Why or why not.

          • I would, if he wants to transfer and fits our scheme, I wouldn’t hold it against him going to UW. What’s the difference between him and Stevie T? Does he fit by scheme and personality, all I’d care about. I have a better feeling about him than a guy who gets homesick.

  1. Beban played his heart out with true valor as that clown Bolden never gave him but a one down of relief. The 1967 game – truly a remarkable game that is still indelible to this day for both programs.

      • No dummy….that was the 1965 game…two bruin td’s in <4 minutes to defeat Troy and get the 'gutty little bruins; into the Rose Bowl where they won their first Rose Bowl over MI St..

The following year…1966…Norman Dow came off the bel-air tech bench and replicated 1965 with another upset victory over USC.

Best coach bel-air tech ever had was Tommy Prothro and there was no love loss btwn. him and John McKay …the following year was the game where all the marbles were on the table.

        USC 21 – bel-air tech 20…this game

        • They were probably the 2 best games in the history of the series. I attended the 1967 game in person which was a heartbreaker for us Bruins and might have been the best game I have ever attended. Beban was a warrior and OJ was OJ before he blew it all up.

          • 88 Straight, I was a Freshman at USC in 1965. The USC Band had already played “Everything’s coming up Roses”. before Gary Beban threw his two TD passes. Ouch !!!!! Of course, the 1967 Game was another classic. Prothro and McKay were two fantastic college coaches. UCLA’s win over MSU in the 1965/66 Rose Bowl Game was awesome. Did you attend that game ?

          • Yes. I attended the Rose Bowl game in 66. I was 10 and it was my first big game. Years later, I am playing golf from time to time with Bob Stiles who was MVP of that game. He’s quite a character.

        • Let’s see, Beban is running one of the top commercial real estate companies in Chicago, and O.J. is rehearsing for his next parole hearing.
