A Flashback To 2007

Who knows whether Matt Corral’s transfer from Oaks Christian was justified? And for that matter, who knows if he will even go to USC. He’s still a junior and recruits can change their mind whenever they want. But this 2007 press release confirms Wayne Gretzky’s strong support for Oaks Christian:

“WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ — Wayne and Janet
Gretzky are proud to announce an Estate Sale to benefit Oaks Christian
School in Westlake Village, California on Saturday, October 27 at 7:00am at
Oaks Christian School’s new Bedrosian Pavilion, 31749 La Tienda Drive in
Westlake Village, CA.

“All proceeds from the sale of the Gretzky’s personal items will go towards the construction of Oaks’ new baseball stadium and various programs at nearby Carden Conejo School. In addition to home furnishings, recreational items, off road vehicles, clothing and shoes, limited edition game-quality jerseys signed by Wayne Gretzky, and signed bottles of his just released Wayne Gretzky Estate Wines (making its United States release debut!) will also be made available for purchase/donation. The public is encouraged to come and support the Gretzky’s gracious fundraising effort by their purchases of these amazing treasures.”

    Ancient alternative facts!

  • 04Trojan

Flow, you make it sound like Corral is going into his junior football season. His junior academic year is nearly over. He’ll be entering his final year of high school football this fall. Could things change between now and the 2018 national signing day?Certainly. But this guy still thinks he’s an SC lock.

    • The USC Heisman 7

His stock will rise as well as his numbers going to LB. They play a nfl pro-style offense that will have Matt ready to step in when he’s ready..USC is a done deal!

      • 04Trojan

        Good.

  • Alvarado

Hmmm is LAA’s pitcher Cam Bedrosian’;s poppa ‘Steve’ part of this ‘move’?

I mean now that Vin dawg Chevrolet has retired what next for brooklyn? Orel?

    • Jethro G Sabbath

This being spring training time, are you just getting in shape with the Vin Scully bashing?

      • Sas

        I’m gonna miss Vin!

        • Jethro G Sabbath

Apparently Alv hasn’t forgotten about him.

          • Sas

He’s the greatest of all time.

          • The USC Heisman 7

Bob Miller is retiring on thursday!

          • Sas

The last of the LA Greats.

        • Alvarado

and you can be sure vin dawg agrees with you oh does he ever

      • Alvarado

Why there be Jetrhro Bodine chiming in…well of course sir after all one must always be ready to counter the ‘hosanna’s’ to the ‘living saint’

        • j metaphor

          Alvin,
It’s hard for me to discern from your comments whether you resent greatness or you are just a plain old bigot.
It’s one, the other or both.

    • j metaphor

That’s MR. Wooden to you, Alvin.

    • Pasadena Trojan

Alvarado, I can understand you not caring for Johnny Cheetin’ Wooden, but don’t you care for Vin? I have heard a story about him, but then I have a friend who is best friends with Vin’s son and he says he is great. Please let us know why. Thank you

      • Alvarado

Well let’s just say saints bore me to death i.e. Wooden or JFK, Ghandi and now this clown vin-dawg. One could always and did mock Chick Hearn or discuss the wisecracks and put downs Churchill used but media created saints? Nah just the same old hackneyed ‘when he goes to the can why’s it’s fresher after he uses it’ idiocy.

‘el vino’ always worked alone and in fact that was his demand – always always solo that way all the bonne mots and insights could always be his – notice he finally stopped using that goofy ‘…ie’ on the end of players names about 7 years ago? You know ‘Saxie’ ‘Tommie’ nonsense.

        • j metaphor

          Says the bigot.

    WHAT’S THE WORD ON………E.J. PRICE ?????????

    • peter

E.J may have grown up quite a bit from last year. Remains to see if he is reinstated to the team.
What appeared last Dec. As certain to transfer, is now open to possibly rejoining come Fall. I respect that the staff keeps it private, allows for a kid to right his wrong.
TMZ type reporting , seldom serves good to anyone.

      • Sas

The word last season was EJ had a lot of growing up to do. But right now it’s Edoga at Left Tackle and Lobendahn at Right Tackle. We’ll need all the help we can get. And i agree with you. The staff has done a good job of keeping this quiet and hopefully it all works out for him.

      • Pudly76

I’m not sure exactly how this all works, but listening to a couple of the last podcasts, both d.weber and g.martinez indicated there was little or no chance of Price returning to the team. I, like you, had hoped there was a chance, but their tone left no doubt.
Re. Palaie, some some of his recent 7v7 highlights and the kid sure can get around. Keeping him in the fold to recruit for us will be very important.

        • Pudly76

Rival$ posted something on EJ yesterday evening, didn’t read it, but might also clarify or update.

          • peter

Ri..ls Maya checked in couple days ago .Apears that a chance still open.He hasn’t transferred. His focus all academic. Staff keeping it private.

    • peter

Its such a great LB class we are building..Palaie’s upside fantastic. #55 seems natural for him.

      • Sas

It’s very early but Gaoteote looks legit. He’s Scouts #1 overall Defensive player. Cant wait to see him recruit for us at the Opening with the other big time studs.

    • Hector of Troy

Nobody should be given #55 Lamar Dawson proved that. That’s a number that should be earned.

      • Sas

        I agree.

  • Anthony_nos

Decent journalistic angle here, nice break from some of what gets posted at times. Bravo.

    • UtahTrojan

      Bloggers alter ego.

  • j metaphor

    It’s basketball season Sambo.
    PS are those grapes sour?

    • Sas

      Just a little.

  • steveg

Nebraska is seriously chasing most all of USC’s offers. Seems like they are just waiting to see who USC likes and then offers them also.
    Lazy recruiting it looks like.

    • Sas

      That’s a good point

    • peter

Riley always has liked southern California kids.
Mike’s roots go way back here.At Oregon state he recruited area hard.Problem was he could only attract the 2/3°*.At Nebraska he has more prestige.I believe he’s relying on experience and savvy..Riley is a good coach and a good man.
As Pete C. knew to never underestimate him.

  • peter

Mike Riley is a coach to respect.Pete C. certainly does. Riley’s years as a USC coach and Chargers coach certainly laid roots for his recruiting here.First at USC,later OS, now at Nebraska.

    • Sas

As long as he keeps them away from Westwood i like him.
