USC Morning Buzz: Spring Practice Starts Today!

Spring practice is here, barely two months after the Rose Bowl. And USC has some positions to fill along the offensive line, defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback and wide receiver.

“The Rose Bowl is behind us now,” senior safety Chris Hawkins said. “We don’t really talk about winning a national title. This is the time for guys to earn starting roles. There are a lot of guys who need to step up on both sides of the ball.”

With that in mind, here is my position-by-position preview of the team heading into today’s first workout. Full story here

  1. This should be a season without too many surprises. Spring could just be a group of guys getting together for the fun of it. But I am guessing the coaches won’t be resting on their rose bowl fertilizer. In fact I hope they take the time to build an offensive line.

    • I think potentially there could be a number of pleasant surprises. We had a lot of red shirts, and we signed this class a number of DL that might play immediately. So I hope there are many pleasant surprises.

  2. I read this and kept getting the image of a cranky old man telling me to get off his lawn.

  3. All of the USC offensive lineman were exposed at the NFL combine, so I expect vast improvement at the position this year, because there will be better athletes that can move .

    • They were exposed as Pro prospects..Still, the linemen were voted by opposing Coaches in Pac 12 as top linemen. They played at a high level in Pac 12…Moving on I too expect over the next year and on big improvements as the staff plays linemen they themselves recruited..
Both OL and DL are headed back to Dominance.

      • That’s funny I recall complete OL collapse in the Alabama game and Darnold saving the season with his ability to buy time and improvise on the run when the pocket would inevitably collapse.

      • Huh ? Didn’t I say exposed at the NFL combine ? That usually means as a pro prospect… lol

  4. Wolf’s official statement on filling 2 WO spots,” it probably doesn’t matter who starts “.

  5. Re: “It might also help to find a punt/kick returner to replace Jackson. But whoever it is won’t have as many touchdown returns”.

Uh, go watch some video of kickoff returns by red shirt Velus Jones at 247 Sports. Jones reportedly runs a 4.36 forth yard dash. Adoree just ran a 4.4 dash time.
