A Mike Walden Memory

Here is announcer Mike Walden’s call of the final moments of the 1969 USC-UCLA game on March 8, 1969. USC won, 46-44, on on a jump shot by Ernie Powell with six seconds left to hand UCLA its first-ever loss at Pauley Pavilion after a 51-0 start in the new arena. Some say Walden jumped up on the announcer’s table when he yelled “Trojans win, Trojans win, Trojans win.” Audio courtesy of the Walden family.

  1. That was their first loss at Pauley and I recall accounts of Wooden’s wife, Nellie, going a bit apoplectic after the loss, towards USC players.

  2. The University of Southern California Men’s Varsity BB Team beat the S@it out of you school, JO, in your house !!! And 48 years later you have the Nerve to show up on Our Blog. Nasty, Bubba JO !!!
