I ran this picture from the 1966 USC-UCLA game a couple weeks ago but did not have the players’ names. After some research, the USC player is safety Mike Battle, who played two years with the New York Jets. The receiver is Harold Busby, who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders. This was a 17-yard reception during the game.
Harold Busby. That boy could run!
Mke Battle was a nut case. He refused to ever call for a fair catch, and at times he made some remarkable runs.
You mean, all-America Mike Battle of Lawndale High.
Mike was a nut case. He and Tim Rossivich make the all time list.
However (and not to racially profile in any way) Mike is a white dude, and #17 in this pic looks black. My aging eyes may deceive, but….could this be another guy? Maybe it’s the exposure on the photo.
Coliseum is pretty dang full.
I was at that game and comments are correct ,I have the program somewhere and #17 ? He was a 160 lb guided missle, never a fair catch type . Anyway that game was a good one, win or lose
