A Look At Defensive Back Jamel Cook’s Breakout Week

I wrote today about freshman safety Jamel Cook, who had 3 interceptions Tuesday and two big hits on Thursday in practice.

Excerpt: “The interesting part is USC is trying to make the 6-foot-4, 195-pound Cook a nickel back. That gives him a quicker path to playing time with last year’s starting safeties, Chris Hawkins and Marvell Tell, returning this season.

“I never imagined three interceptions (in one practice),” Cook said Thursday. “I had two in high school, but never three.” Full story here

Who says I never write positive stories?

  1. Even Ferdinand the bull had a good spring once he say on a bee. Let’s see him in the big arena before we make big predictions. One thing is sure if he is as good as advertised the coaches will play him somewhere.

  2. This is a Wolf set up. Already hinting that Cook is playing wrong position and should start over Tell/Hawkins.

  3. If you check out Cooks highlight videos on Hudl or YouTube you’ll see the kid is long but strong like a TJ McDonald. He brings it with the hitting and has really deceiving speed for his size. He played against the best competition in Florida and it’s showing now that he’s healthy. Our Safety play was very questionable last year. Remember that Christian McCaffrey play at Stanford? Cook will be a name to be reckoned with this season among others.
