Jason Hart has turned down an offer from Washington and will remain at USC as an assistant coach, according to an athletic dept. source. Hart received a new two-year contract and was personally recruited to stay by athletic director Lynn Swann. It’s a big win for the program because Hart recruited Bennie Boatwright, Chimezie Metu, De’Anthony Melton and Jonah Mathews, among others at USC.

  1. I’m guessing Hart is being groomed to be USC’s next BB coach if the position ever opens up. With his ties to L.A. and USC’s inconsistency with the basketball program, Hart becoming HC at Troy one day wouldn’t be a bad move. There are worse places to begin a HC career and USC basketball isn’t that high profile along with all of the resources and talent in the Southern California region.

  2. excellent news. now enfield, hart and co need to get to work convincing everyone to stay another year.

  3. With Hart doing all the recruiting, what is Enfield doing? It’s not like the players are getting any better… 2 wins in the tournament is not an improvement, it is a digression, southern cal had to play in a play in game this year. Could not get out of the first weekend…yet again!

    • Hart doesn’t do all the recruiting. Tony Bland is responsible for signing Charles O’Bannon Jr.

      • Sam, so what is Enfield doing since Hart and Bland are doing all the recruiting? About O’Bannon, he signed with southern cal because UCLA said no to him, he is trying to get back at his father’s alma mater for rejecting him. Bland didn’t “recruit” him.

        • Teddy.
He specifically said Bland was at his games more than any coach from USC, NC State, UCLA, Etc.
And FYI, NC State and Texas were his favorites EVEN at the beginning when UCLA was slobbering on him.
Ted, I follow this stuff. You can’t say just anything and think everyone will believe it. Also, UCLA’s turnaways are USC’S gain.
Meaning thank you for the MCDONALD’S ALL AMERICAN!

          • Good job Sas. Further on what Coach Enfield contributes. With the possible exception of Oregon, SC played the best second half defense of any team in the tournament. That’s a noteworthy contribution (among many others) which allowed the Trojans to win two tournament games.

    • You are a pathetic loser, living vicariously through our board. Typical bruin, no class- bet you voted for Garcetti and Hillary too!

        • I do, and it proves you have no life,, since you spend so much time on a USC board.
Lonzo is gone, but LaVar remains. Good luck with that

    • Did you notice Ted that from 2016 SC lost 2 all league starters declaring for the NBA, it’s 6th man transferred as a grad student to Marquette and two other top subs also transferred. Given these departures, I’d say SC, and Coach Enfield, had a terrific season.

  4. Good for USC hoops. Hart would have apparently been a big loss and Enfield and Swann deserve a lot of credit for keeping a valuable coach from leaving for another excellent opportunity.

  5. Any chance we can snag Michael Porter, Jr.? He’s a top 10 player and recently de-committed from WA.

    • From what I heard. I know it’s just hearsay but I hear Metu’s already been told he’s a late 2nd Rounder but was told by a few organizations that if he comes back to work on rebounding and polishing his defense instead of going for the shot block they say he’s a 1st Rounder and people close to the program believe his mothers upbringing from Nigeria (I believe) and her strong believe for education will bring Metu back. Again just what heard (read). That said…that same person believes Boatwright seems 70% to leave. Expect the worse, but anything can happen. If they return we’ll be seriously tough and a legitimate threat to go deep next season, especially when you throw Charles O’Bannon and Victor Uyaelunmo who is a 6-11 and a true rebounding, shot blocker, rim protecter in the fold. We should take up another notch next season.

        • I agree. I only hope Boatwright doesn’t get big headed from a strong tournament. If they want the better money they’ll hold off another year

  6. Great news. This is another stepping stone to rebuilding a potential great team. You need stabilization in a program like SC. the players see that the coaches are committed and they will commit to the program whether it is a recruit or a starter. This is Swann’s first test and he passed.

  7. Great, important piece of building our program. We have to keep our players and coaches/ Fight On!
