Women’s Tennis Coach Richard Gallien Stepping Down

USC women’s tennis coach Richard Gallien is stepping down after 22 years. Gallien was well-liked and extremely loyal to USC. This is the second coach in March to be leaving (women’s basketball coach Cynthia Cooper was the other). And it sure looks like athletic director Lynn Swann is making moves.

      • USC is actually going to field a men’s soccer ‘team’ and not just a ‘club’? Fantastic! Home field will be that new soccer field I’m hoping (NW corner of MLK and Fig0.

Sure wish they’d take a look at what AZ St. is fielding a year hence – a men’s ice hockey team….Galen has ice hockey capability

        • Just wishful thinking. Sorry to mislead you. That said, we have the field and the Galen could accommodate ice. Problem is what women’s sports can be added to balance out the men’s additions (Title IX)?

        • That was a long time ago! I bet there crying it up on the other side and bashing USC for the loss.

          • They’re saying they had a good season. Maybe an exciting one.
The #1 pick, another 1st Rounder, plus two 5-Stars in Hamilton and Alford, and a Thomas Welsh in the starting lineup to only win two games. The #1 scoring team in the NCAA…I’d be downright pi $$ed and would call this season a failure.

          • And now they have nothing to look forward to until after their annual beat down in football next November!

          • They don’t want to think about football season. They can feel everything going back to the way it’s supposed to be.

        • And the ruins inducted Pete Dalis, the AD who ran Harrick off, into their Hall of Fame! No wonder they are such losers now.

        • Good info about spring practice today(3/25) on the Peristyle Podcast with Coach Hyde.

      • Oh just wait for the usual morons from bel-air tech….’the 88 guns’….’just jo’ momma’ and ‘simile for wooden’….they know the drill….worship woodrow and also ignore the reality of how truly pathetic they are

    • Hey Goux, right on with the no national titles in all those years. Believe just three final fours along with never getting to the final match in ncaa tourney. The program was getting stale. Mick Haley women VB, and Dave Salo women swimming are next in line to be replaced in my opinion. Hope AD Swann makes some good choices in new coaches to merit his position.

    • Mr. Lavar Ball shouldn’t talk so much. Kentucky put up 83 without any kind of inside scoring.

      • No defense against Fox, who was guarding him Lavar? Their defense came back to haunt them, Kentucky went to the hoop as often as they wanted.

          • That team was built to win now. Ball’s the top pick in the draft, Leaf is a first rounder, Hamilton and Alford are both seniors and they were also 5-Star recruits, Welsh is as solid as they come. Holiday off the bench is 12 points a game. They were the top scoring team in basketball. This was the year for them to make a run and to get to the final four. It’s either Alford is a choker in the sweet 16 or they choked. They had a disappointing season.

        • The real focus should be on Alford’s lack of making no adjustments at half-time which Calipari did for KY in neutralizing any effort by the bruin offense esp. Ball. They blocked the lanes and reduced his patented ‘passing’ to ‘assist’ the inside high percentage scores.

Alford is not a good coach – he assumed he’d done enough and it is why they lost and shall continue to with him at the helm.

          • True that, he is responsible for the scheme and adjustments or lack there of, but this seems to me to be what he’s always done. Just roll out the balls and turn them loose. I’m just saying there didn’t seem to be any defensive urgency on the part of the guards, Fox didn’t have anybody even trying to take a charge or cut him off from driving.
I know, it sounded like I was getting on the Ball kid, but it was intended to be more a shot at his dad, who guaranteed a victory…

          • That kid didn’t look like much to me nor to anyone who was expecting some incredibly talented player. Not saying he won’t learn in the NBA but frankly the best bring their best to the tournament and 2 and gone is indelible what Lonzo Ball will be remebered for.

  1. All I know is that bel-air tech really played bad tonight and kudos for Lonzo for being a 100% ‘no show’ for his daddy. BTW ‘Bryce’ showed his real mettle pumping all those ‘3’s’ that rarely went in….time to change the guard at woodrow’s sarcophagus….

    • Ugly never replenished Sam Gilbert’s Trust Fund to buy the team. Ugly’s motto is : if u ain’t cheetin’ u ain’t tryin’. That is a quote from the biggest cheater of all time, Johnny Cheetin’ Wooden.

  2. Scooter, of course Lynn Swann is making moves. He needs to hire another coach. How obvious
