A Basketball Update

A source within the program currently expects Bennie Boatwright and Chimezie Metu to turn pro. Nothing is finalized, of course.

  1. They are not guaranteed money players, yet. They need another year. Good luck though

  2. Forgone Conclusion. Boatright and Metu’s departure allows Andyain’twinning’s, somewhat touted, 17th rated BB recruiting class to step up to Pac-12 BB, in a real hurry. Lest ye forget, Andrew really appreciates in a hurry BB.

    • Hey squatter, long time no hear. How is that guaranteed national championship from LaVar Ball coming along? Ball got out (Fox)ed on Friday. Ball’s marketing demand went the thrift store route. Lmao at ugly

  3. Thanks to both players for great play. I don’t think they are ready, but hey, there decision and I won’t lose any sleep over it.

    • Exactly – and did we all see that North Carolina team yesterday? Incredibly solid players who will be in the NBA one day soon, but they’re all polished. Why? They’re Juniors and Seniors. Nobody would blame Metu and Bennie for jumping after next season, but each has SO much work to do. And they won’t get that work in the NBA as the 12th man, if they’re lucky. They MAY get it in the D-league. Maybe. Or in Turkey, or Bulgaria, or the J-League.

  4. Both are making big mistakes. An “improved” player and a streak shooting, non-rebounder with a bad knee. Either their parents want to cash in or they really don’t like school.

    • Yup and it could be the “environment” as well, as we’ve had more than our share of transfers and early entries. We could have a great squad if these guys hung around and they could do themselves a favor by getting an education if things don’t work out.

  5. if one or both decide to go, usc basketball may want to reconsider the process they go through with these kids to decide whether or not to turn pro. seems like every borderline nba prospect chooses to leave earlier than they should.

  6. Both bad decisions if this ends up being true. Did they not learn anything from the early departures of last year?

  7. My 16 year old daughter plays flag football and wants to turn pro too. Geez. (thats a joke)

  8. Jacobs, who I loved, could not get drafted, so these two think they can?– The Defenders of the Lakers, or whatever they call themselves, pay something like $30 grand for a season. I don’t know for sure, maybe someone else has got the correct figure. And if the kids make an NBA roster for 10-days they get a minimum of $30K extra. Not exactly the millions their NBA superior athletes fetch.

So all this sounds like a real crapshoot, especially for Metu. Boatwright may have an upside if he is taught to get into the paint and do some 6 foot 10 inch rebounding, not vanish outside waiting for a pass and a 33% chance for a 3-pointer.

  9. If they really go through with it I wish them the best. And, I hope they like Italian food.

  10. They are both projected to be first round draft choices…. In the Chinese Basketball Association! I heard they pay slightly more than southern cal!

  11. They accomplished really nothing as a team. Not like the other USC from the south who is in the final four. It is the same old story when the Trojans get a top player. O.J. Mayo and Demar Derozan left after one season while these guys last two, and Jacobs and Jovanovic stayed three. Team will be so small inside with Rakocevic having the only height who can’t get off the ground. Interesting that no other school is pursuing Coach Enfield who has used up his four years. Think about it that John McKay, John Robinson, and Pete Carroll won national titles in their third year in football.

  12. Neither is ready or good enough to leave USC this year. A very immature decision.
