The Associated Press has ranked the top 100 basketball teams based on its polls dating back to 1949 and USC is a respectable No. 50. Remember the 1971 team was ranked in the top 3 for much of the season and reached No. 2 on Feb. 1, 1971. I mention that for the people who think this year’s Round of 32 appearance was some type of high-water mark.

I too am surprised coming in @ # 50 but I then again it’s no different than bel-air tech taking # 23 (or some mid-20 ranking) in college football..

Literally no one.
I was in Room #198 in Trojan Hall as a freshman in 1971. I would listen to the games on the radio and if USC was close at halftime I would walk across Exposition Blvd. to the Sports Arena and catch the second half. Mo Layton as a terrific guard. Great memories.
