Is Velus Jones Next Marqise Lee?

USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin compared freshman WR Velus Jones to Marqise Lee. That is quite a comparison and I’m guessing it’s more related to saying Jones is the fastest receiver he’s seen at USC since Lee.  But I’ve already warned you about his previous comparisons.

    • He seems not only fast ,also savy.. I remember when he was first offered.Tee was BIG on him. There of course were a lot of people critical because of his 3* at the time..Even as signing day came close, many thought he’d decomit ,be dropped.Tee stuck by him as we signed many 4*+…I love it when guys like V.J excell.

      • Tee has an eye for talent and he wasn’t gonna back off the offer and told Jones that he’s gonna be signed no matter what when Jones and his HS Coach got nervous down in the last few weeks to signing day so that made me think Tee must believe this kid is one that he must have a lot of confidence in because that was the perfect opportunity to tell a recruit to keep his options open. I’m with you too bud. Deontay Burnett was basically a kid who got passed up by many and now he’s making everyone look foolish for that.

    • Don’t know about you, but I’m feeling these young guys are gonna be the real deal. After a full summer catching passes from Sam, I’m thinking this is as good a group we’ve ever had, and QB who’ll get it to them.

      • Man it’s exciting to think about all those receivers and the talent they have and potential impacts are gonna be made. Vaughns, Jones, J. Imatorbhebhe, and Lewis coming in August not only add to the offense but it may even light a fire under guys like Mitchell or Greene. Darnold throwing to them makes it an easier transition.

    • Your right Sam. Marlon Tuipulotu Is working out with first team. Coaches are saying he’s one of the better players.

      • If I’m not mistaken, he was elevated last Thursday, and has been there since. I’ve heard he put on 10-15 lbs. and is still quick. 24/7 had him as the highest rated DT in the country for this class and he seems so far to be living up to it…

      • That makes me think he’s locked in with the opportunity. Since he came on his secret visit he’s been aware of the competition next to him and the chance to play right away and Stevie Tu’ikolotu being that run stopper in the middle last season and that being the stronger part of his game at the moment makes it look like he could be the answer for replacing that area. Glad we got him at the end.

        • Marlon is making immediate impact.Pulling off the early enroll was masterful..Now he will be light year ahead come fall. His impact during season will be similar to Cam”s as freshman.Marlon is one of our most “teachable” player’s… Are You and family enjoying son”s spring baseball?

          • I agree. Gonna be as significant as Cam’s freshman year or better. And so far so good. Thanks

  1. If he’s not, I think somebody else will be. You have a great QB and a lot of potentially great receivers. Just look at the last 5-7 years. Every year somebody pops up out of the woodwork to become an outstanding receiver. Sometimes more than one guy. I don’t think that it will be any different this year.

  2. Tee Martin better watch his “p”s and “q”s!! You’ve been warned by the great Wolfman!

    • Teddy,
What is the over/under on how long Rosen lasts this year? I think he will quit around the 6th game seeing that the ruins will have a losing season and he doesn’t want to hurt his draft status. What do you think?
