Morning Buzz: Another Example That USC Is Everywhere

I frequently mention there always seems to be a USC connection for things, such as when Clippers owner Steve Ballmer has a son at USC, or Jim Nantz and Dan Hicks/Hannah Storm have daughters at USC. Or when Tim Tebow and Russell Wilson are working out at USC, etc.

But this is one you probably won’t see in the USC alumni publications any time soon. United Airlines became the hottest topic of conversation Monday when the airline forcily removed a passenger who bought a ticket and had an assigned seat so it could put an employee on a flight.

Things got worse for United when its CEO, Oscar Munoz, got eviscerated for this comment: “I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers.”

Well, guess what? Munoz went to USC. So did his wife. Cue Conquest.

    • Don’t be bitter little gutty Ted. Try winning a Rose Bowl for once or even getting to the game and maybe you baby bruins won’t be viewed as just another underachieving mid-major on the gridiron.

Get ready for another beat down in the Coli this year. Poor Rosen. Does he still have that lame boy hot tub stache?

  1. With all the time he seems to have on his hands, he can’t put together a string of good, solid, “Inside” posts.

  2. It looks like like the good doctor was not such an outstanding citizen. Scott there are only 1 graduate that makes most USC people cringe, and he “works” for the Daily News.

  3. Munoz has to cater to his massive labor force. He can blame the cops for the removal of the belligerent, blithering idiot who made a worldwide spectacle of himself throwing a tantrum.

    Snakes On A Plane ad-libbed.

  4. Pulitzer committee take notice of this beautiful intro: “I frequently mention there always seems to be a USC connection for things…”

  5. Another successful SC alum. Good for him. Name a business owner or CEO that hasn’t had some nightmare with the social media monster and that’s not a successful business.

    • Interesting pickle for airlines, over booking for cancellations then who to bump when full, bumping a paid customer to get employees (likely a flight crew) from point A to B.

      • If airlines weren’t allowed to overbook, all of our fares would go up. Obviously, flight crews have to be given priority or entire flights have to be cancelled.

Complicated procedure implemented to somehow pick who could be bumped in emergency. Problem is letting anyone sit in the first place who might be bumped. Some people who don’t get what they want, when they want it, turn into monkeys.

        • That someone not getting what they wanted. It was someone not getting what they paid for.

          • The passenger paid for a revocable license to use the plane and nothing more. When the license was revoked for proper cause, he acted like a monkey.

Like the other passengers who agreed to calmly leave for a substantial bump fee, so should have this spoiled brat, who showed his idiot, over-aggressive personality again when he sneaked back onto the plane. A real charmer, I’m sure.

          • I’m not saying the guy didn’t look like an idiot but the airline is the one getting pummeled right now. They overbooked out of greed so they needed to keep upping the offer until someone accepted.
I’d guarantee if they got a do over that’s exactly what they’d do.

          • Oh, United’s handling of the situation has been a disaster. No doubt. Horrible procedure which was also exacerbated big time by the cops. Possible bumpees should have never been allowed on the plane, though I suspect United was caught off guard by a sudden need to create space, so nothing could be done – except decide to leave the extra flight crew on the ground.

But all airlines overbook for virtually flight and this has gone on since the beginning of commercial flight. It’s not greed. It’s to save the rest of us money and also to account for the countless people who cancel or never show up.

IMHO, the problem is with the immature freak who bottomed out and caused an international scene. I bet he’s not even a doctor like he claimed. More like he’s a mental patient of some kind. He didn’t just look like an idiot. He is an idiot. Stupid is as stupid does.

          • The overbooking thing just doesn’t bother me and in business, maximizing profits was always my goal. Had to be that way to survive actually.

The CEO’s “apology” was horrible. And United blew the whole transaction. Disaster city. I’d say that CEO should take a hit. He’s obviously not that smart and the jokes aren’t over.

Actually, it wasn’t an overbooking problem. It was a problem of United being cheap and not offering these people a good enough deal. Plus, offers should have all been taken care of before boarding. Just a disaster.

But the overbooking doesn’t irk me. I’ve known about overbooking since I was 14 years old and frankly I’ve never had a bad airline experience except about 35 years ago when I was in a bad storm over Arizona and I couldn’t figure how the plane could possibly stay together in the weather we were in. When the lady next to you is crying and mumbling, “Oh God,” over and over, it’s not good. Real fear. Everything else is just a day at the beach.

    • I’m just sorry it wasn’t you they physically yanked off the plane. The Toejam family ethic, what a sham.

      • LMAO Squatter about this. The only thing that can make this even better is if the “fake” doctor went to ugly. How appropo would that Be. Munoz: Get that sticking no good bum “fake” doctor off the plane. we don’t allow not stinking ruins on United. Fight On and take No Prisoners.

  6. That clown of a doctor had already been told to leave and had when he sneaked back on – he then became defiant when told to leave the aircraft for a SECOND time and then the security was called when he refused to. The other three randomly selected passengers did as they were told. No different than the three occupants that night out in Lake View Terrace – two of them did what the LAPD Foothill Division cops told them to do – one didn’t – Rodney King. Those two kids went home that night Rodney didn’t.

  7. If a period from that last line was changed into a comma it would sound like Munoz’ wife name was Cue Conquest
