Where Were The Fans?

So why were there 10,000 less fans at the Coliseum today? Clay Helton ruin expectations with his non-scrimmage? Or did fans lose interest because of the lack of a quarterback competition? Safety Chris Hawkins said maybe everyone went to Coachella.

Whatever the reason, there were a lot less people. And who can blame them when the “scrimmage” barely lasted 90 minutes, including the hostage videos of Clay Helton describing each practice period.

  1. Passover began this past Monday 10th April and concludes this coming Tuesday 18th April. Holy Week – today is ‘The Great Sabbath’ aka Holy Saturday aka ‘Easter Eve’. A number of schools are not in session and it is a warm day. BTW the NFL is back too.

Mix it all together and ‘bibbity bobbity boo’ low turnout –

    • Alvarado, Many if not most of the Universities had their Spring Game the weekend of Palm Sunday, leaving the Easter Holiday weekend open for Family visits. It is nothing more than Common Sense. Alvarado, Happy Resurrection Sunday !

      • Simply amazing, Avocado makes excuses, excuses, excuses for poor bozo u spring practice attendance.

Why would anyone waste a glorious Sat. afternoon at the Crumbling Mausoleum to watch a patty-cake spring practice – ridiculous.

  2. What Alvarado said. It’s a holiday week and weekend. Lot’s of people spending time with family.

  3. This is Los Angeles. Even the true fans have better things to do than attend a not-even-glorified practice. This is not Tuscaloosa or College Station, Scottie.

    • Was exactly my thinking. Do any west coast teams draw very well for the spring game?

In the words of the Sage, Allen Iverson

      “We talkin practice!”

      • Why would you compare USC to inferior west coast teams and not to Ohio State, Michigan,LSU,Clemson and Alabama?

    • Making it just another practice does explain the 10,000 decrease after the storybook Rose Bowl finish.

  4. USC said there were 14k fans there. It was also on Facebook, but the format wasn’t that different from Sark’s last spring game. USC doesn’t need a bogus game.
Also San Diego is hosting an air race. There is a huge convention about Star Wars. It was what it was. The weather wasn’t too bad though. The scoreboard construction was weird. But I didn’t expect much.

  5. You post pretty much the same thing every year, so criticism of the attendance was absolutely assured. Tomorrow you’ll post something about some Big-10 or SEC school that had 80,000 people watch practice. When was the last year you didn’t post 1) “Low Attendance at Spring Game”, 2) “Non Cool Place to Live Sells 80,000 Tickets” & 3) “Lazy Media Types Hype Bench Press”… 2006? 2004? It is pretty much the holy trinity of the Wolf spring coverage. Just write the 2018 version tomorrow and save yourself a little work.

On second thought, maybe you were right when you let it be known that $10 and kids free was an outrageous price and people just saved their sammich money.

  6. The fans will be there when the real games start. Why take a chance on a major injury to somebody important just to play a real game in spring. Last year I thought that SC had few injuries compared to previous years. It could have just been luck but I think that it had something to do with the way they practiced. There’s an old saying…..”if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”.

  7. Did you see the crowd at Texas? Pretty sparse and they have a wunderkind new coach. In places like LA and even Austin, people have other things to do. He will never add that color. I don’t care if a million people show up in Lincoln. It is still Lincoln…

    • Texas has stunk for several years now driving off the bandwagon fans. They were so bad even the ruins beat them.

  8. When SW ask CH a question, CH didn’t seem very interested in answering. A repeat of 2012?

  9. Fewer. Not less.

If you count the object (I.e. ‘Fans’) use fewer, if you can’t count the object (I.e. ‘Interest’) use less.
    Like this:

    Fewer fans.
    Less interest.

    Fewer snarks.
    Less snarkiness.

Fewer random, unprompted posts about kiffin, sark, chow and Caesar.
Less confusion about how you have this job.

    See how that works?
