  1. Just found something you may or may not find interesting. Jim Mora now has a worst PAC record then Karl Dorrell had. Dorrell is considered by UCLA fans as one of the worst HC the Bruins have had. Mora PAC record is 25-20. Dorrell is 24-18.

    • All the talk about pay scale and quality, isn’t mora one of the highest paid PAC-12 coaches, and his counterpart sweet16 alford is probably right there with him. And the search guerero implemented to find these two guys was first class too. Bet most them ruin fans would love to get out from under those deals. Fight On!

      • In reality, the quality of the Pac-12 coaching staff is much better now than it was when Karl Dorrell was coaching at UCLA.

Stanford had Buddy Teevins and Walt Harris. They were both awful. Teevins went like 10-23 and Harris went 5-6 and 1-11.

Arizona State had Dirk Koetter from 2001 – 2006 his conference record was 21-28.

Washington State had Bill Doba for the same years as Karl Dorrell 2003 thru 2007. WSU’s conference record was 17-25.

Washington Huskies were quite awful too. 4-12 in conference play and 0-8 in 2004. Keith Gilbertson was the coach from 2003 and 2004 and then Ty Willingham was quite bad also. 3-6 in 2006, 2-7 in 2007.

Willingham actually went 0-12 in 2008 but KD was already fired by then.

Arizona Wildcats had Mike Stoops from 2004 thru 2007 when he competed against Karl Dorrell Zona went 2-6, 2-6, 4-5, and 4-5. The funny thing though is that one of those 2 wins in 2005 was against Karl Dorrell. LOL!

Some serious bad coaching in the Pac 10 back then.

Only USC/Carroll and Oregon had real good coaching. Riley over at Oregon State was pretty decent during those years when KD was coaching and Cal had Tedford.

        • Washington State was a real threat too. They went to a Rose Bowl and just played tough only the conference.

I agree. The Pac12 is definitely much better now. But Mora stepped into situation where he had a QB in place in Hundley, a TB like Jonathan Franklin, Anthony Barr and Daton Jones. He had some playmakers already in place. There’s no excuse for losing to Stanford 5 times and Oregon 3 times. They were the measuring stick. He had the benefit of USC being down 30 scholarship players while Utah and Colorado we’re struggling in their move to the Pac12. Mora is overrated in my opinion.

          • WSU was only a threat in 2003. After that year they faultered badly. KD had an easier time in the conference vs Mora.

And believe me I’m not defending Mora for his recent years but keep in mind Mora did well with players that RN couldn’t get to play well.

Or the other way of looking at it is that RN played A. Barr as a true frosh and sophomore on offense. Datone Jones didn’t do much until his redshirt senior year.

Same goes for J. Franklin. Franklin had fumbling issues under RN.

The problem with RN is that he constantly struggled by playing true freshmen. That’s just the way it was. He threw Randall Carroll out there who couldn’t catch and the same for 5 star Morrell Pressley. RN threw true frosh Sheldon Price out there. He tried 5 star Malcom Jones at tailback. He decided to go with redshirt frosh Kevin Prince and then true frosh Richard Brehaut after benching his senior QB Kevin Craft. He tried to bench upper classmen linemen like David Carter and Nate Chandler in favor of true frosh guys like Cassius Marsh and Seali Epenesa. Same for 5 star Owa Odiguizawa and 5 star safety Rahim Moore both trying to star as true freshmen and all struggled.

Let’s not forget about the offensive linemen under RN also. True frosh Jeff Baca, Stan Hasiak, Chris Ward, Xavier Sua-Filo, etc.

The only smart thing RN did was redshirt practically the entire 2011 class including Brett Hundley because after I was ripping him for 3 years in a row he finally learned his lesson but the stupid UCLA fans then tried to blame RN for sticking with certain veteran players and not playing the best players which were supposedly true freshmen. LOL!

In the early part of Jim Mora’s years he got RN’s upper classmen to play well. Mora didn’t start many younger guys but he still wasted and played a lot of true freshmen which was his biggest mistake.

It was ridiculous when Mora started out in the 2012 year and dumb Bruin fans like 88Straight were whining and complaining that certain true freshmen were not getting more PT but of course they got quiet when guys like RJr Shaq Evans, RSr J. Franklin, RSr, RSr Jerry Johnson, RSr J. Fauria, Sr Sheldon Price, RSr Aaron Hester, RSr Damien Holmes all started to produce.

The dumb UCLA fans wanted true frosh Ellis McCarthy to start over RSr Datone Jones. Same for true frosh Aaron Porter over Damien Holmes. Same for true frosh Jeremy Castro over whomever upper classmen.

And for sure the dumb UCLA fans were expecting and wanted true frosh Ish Adams, Fabian Moreau, and Randall Goforrth starting over Price, Hester, and RSr Andrew Abbott a former walk on.

Where Mora himself screw up or you can say where Adrian Klemm messed up is that he played too many freshmen offensive linemen. They all got hurt or never panned out or only stayed 3 years without accomplishing anything.

Mora also screwed up by hiring inexperienced Kennedy Polamalu as OC. UCLA has dumb fans like 88Straight who argued KP was better than Noel Mazzone. LOL!!! So sad how the UCLA fan base is so dumb.

          • Polamalu wasn’t a good fit at all and he’s gonna have the lasting impression from some people that he’s not an OC. One season wasn’t going to turn Uclas OLine into a more tougher and/or better unit and the young inexperienced WR’s would have produced more with Mazzone in my opinion. His offensive scheme would have made the transition easy for both OLine and WR’s because he did a lot of quick out passes and zone blocking. And guys like Theo Howard would have been more effective with short pass plays that would allow home to use his speed and make plays. But the timing of Mora’s change from Mazzone to Polamalu and immediately another making another OC change makes him look unsure of his offensive philosophy as a football coach and when you highlight that he has Josh Rosen as his QB it makes me wonder how he ever was an NFL Head Coach because Rosen has to adjust to another playcaller and his way to do things for the third time instead of being the Junior star QB and comfortable in an offensive system by now. Mora got the best out of Nueheisels kids because they bought into his attitude and him being an NFL guy had their attention right away. The overall results are really disappointing when you have Brett Hundley and Josh Rosen to work with and USC not being able to take 10 scholarship 4star/5star players three years in a row. This feels like the fork in the road for most bruin fans with Mora in terms of believing he can get them back on track but more importantly get them over the hump by winning one of the following….
            -Beating Stanford
            -Beating Oregon
            -Pac12 Title

            OR…..

-1st in the South and win over USC

That’s my own point of view. It feels like half of the Bruins fans/alumna are on the fence with Mora and expect the program to take the next step now.

          • While many UCLA fans might be saying now that Kennedy Polamalu wasn’t a good fit at offensive coordinator…very few said anything last year while we were going through all this.

There were no reports from any of the UCLA beat writers that the UCLA offense was struggling under KP’s new system…especially the rushing attack. The same for UCLA fans reporting on how spring practices went.

It’s often the same story. Fans start to report how this hot shot true freshman early enroll is showing a lot of promise and will or should be seeing the field alot as a true frosh. For me…I’m wondering as to what happened to the guys ahead of the true frosh that those same UCLA fans were highly touting 1-3 years previously.

And I was telling stubborn UCLA fans like 88Straight that UCLA needs a mobile QB to have success. I’ve been preaching this same story even before pre-Hundley.

Unfortunately most UCLA fans like 88Straight do not listen. They figured that having a drop back strong arm QB like Josh Rosen was a waste in Mazzone’s system. This is why Mora wanted to move to a more pro-set and like 99% of the fans bought it.

I told UCLA fans that this was a big mistake. I said over and over UCLA needs to stick to the zone read option around 80% of the time and then start introducing some power sets. Nobody listened. Just a whole bunch of arguments from just pure dummies who don’t understand college football.

What none of the coaches and majority of UCLA fans could not figure out was that Mazzone’s zone read option helped mask UCLA’s O line deficiencies and smash mouth was something the Bruins were simply not used to.

Even in 2015 with true frosh Josh Rosen…UCLA was running the Mazzone zone read option but it was so obvious Rosen was rarely keeping the ball and running with it. It was so easy for opposing defenses to focus on Paul Perkins the running back.

The whole point of the “spread” offense is to “spread” the defense out with smaller faster guys. You are hoping that the opposing D will put in 5 DB’s to counter your 3 to 4 WR attack with no TE or fullback.

With a running QB and running the zone read option you open up the inside rushing lanes. What UCLA tried to do last year was simply blast their way through. Good powerful teams can do it to a certain extent but even Bama and SC had troubles with their stiff drop back QB’s. Both switched to mobile QB’s and both of their offenses opened up.

Rosen to run the ball more and if he isn’t the one running it then UCLA has to introduce some wildcat packages. It’s to keep opposing defenses off balance.

I want to see UCLA utilize the F-back again…who is the small fast guy running across in motion from right to left. UCLA might be able to even play Soso Jomabo at this F-spot along with Stephen Johnson and even Theo Howard, and Felton Spencer. UCLA doesn’t have to always utilize a tight end.

The problem with a true tight end is that it’s easier for a defense to protect the rushing lanes.

I know UCLA will be trying to utilize some toss pitches to try and get the ball outside under Fisher but fast defenses can stop this and if you can’t get to the outside then it doesn’t open up anything to the inside.

I’m hoping UCLA/Mora has a decent season because if he doesn’t the dumb Bruin fans will be calling for his head but they are the same dummies who agreed that Mora should play true frosh Josh Rosen and use him as a drop back QB in a pro set. Oh brother.

    • Wow, who knew that the face cupper was worst than KD. Owns will spin this as Mora’s losses where prettier than KD’s

    • Going 7-11 in conference play under the Josh Rosen era doesn’t help. I tried to tell dummies like 88Straight that playing Josh Rosen as a true frosh wasn’t going to work.

And for those who are going to argue that Rosen was hurt well..that’s part of the problem. Rosen wasn’t physically ready in either of his first two years. Dude was a lanky stick. He’s only now beginning to fill out.

If UCLA could have developed their QB’s properly they would have had Asianti Woulard as their starting QB in 2015 and 2016. Rosen would only be starting now as a redshirt sophomore.

It’s not always about who is the best “passer” or who has the most NFL potential.

        • Yup because we all know he’s unable to fight his own battles. He got absolutely destroyed and embarrassed by me which happens to every UCLA fan who happens to go up against me and after that happens those same fans go crying to the moderators to ban me.

There is never a logical explanation for the ban either. If they say it was inappropriate language or personal attacks you for sure as a witness know that 88Straight did that plenty of times.

Not all UCLA fans have this warped mindset pertaining to true freshmen but the sad reality is that most UCLA fans do which is why the program never goes anywhere.

  2. LOL!! There is a definite pattern for sure:

    1. Bozos UCLA fans like yourself think you know it all…especially when it comes to playing true freshmen.
    2. We debate over and over about it
    3. You and others get slaughtered and proven wrong
    4. UCLA continues to lose
    5. You and/or others request ban

Yup. For sure a pattern. LOL!!!

    • 1. You are the know it all from your sofa.
      2. There’s no debate. You just continue to lie and act like a spoiled adolescent.
      3. Nobody is slaughtered anywhere. Grow up.
      4. You are indeed a USC fan. Knew it all along.
      5. Nobody “requested” a ban.

The pattern is you getting tossed off fan sites and you can’t figure out why people find you intolerable. You are hilarious…and have no idea why.
