About That Early Signing Period

What happens if a recruit signs December 20 and the head coach resigns or gets fired? Or more likely, what if the position coach that recruited him takes a job at another school?

  1. Wonder how Brady Hokes’ recruits felt when he left and they found out they were playing for Harbaugh?

  2. If the recruit feels that the coach is on the hot seat or if their position coach is a guy that may get a head coaching gig then they can just wait until the normal signing period. Guys should only use the early signing period if they are heading into a really stable situation or if they are going to their dream school. This really isn’t that tough.

  3. Same thing that happens when a kid commits on feb 8th and coach gets fired 2 weeks later. I have no problem with a recruit keeping all options open until the judgement day as well as the school doing the same. What happens when a recruit says for a solid year that he is coming to UCLA and then realizes no man should ever wear baby blue?

  4. He’s stuck, that’s what. He’s had a 1,000 people tell him, 1,000 different times this could happen and he signed early anyway. Everyone knows coaches can leave or be fired any second. Even recruits.

The only way out apparently is if you’re Eddie Vanderdoes and you scream to the press after you’re already at Notre Dame that your grandmother may die soon and the family desperately needs you back in Calif so your grandmother can somehow stay alive. Then you can muddle through flagrant underachiever ucla while the bruin coaches coddle you like the fat baby little gutty you truly are.

    • Q1: How is Eddie’s Grandmother? Q2: I wonder if the NCAA would have approved that move if he came to USC instead of UCLA?
