USC Morning Buzz: The Crosstown Cup Has Been Decided

Does anyone even care anymore about the Crosstown Cup, the competition between USC and UCLA that used to be called the Lexus Gauntlet and then BMW Crosstown Cup but no longer has a sponsor or a website. The schools themselves barely promote it these days but UCLA did clinch the competiion by winning, 105-85.

USC has won 10 of the 16 times. Lynn Swann is 0-1. Here’s what Pat Haden said about it last year: “This Crosstown Cup competition means so much to both schools and to our fans.”

  1. Hey Scott are there any more quotes from Haden you know what penalty he incurred for the Mayr Foundation plundering? He get his free car washes denied at Annandale? No one parking his limo at Town and Gown? Nikias sending him to that hidden cubby hole downtown for Pat to avoid any real scrutiny for nearly a year?

        • I don’t want to see Haden hounded to death, Alv, but I’m surprised he hasn’t offered SOME kind of an explanation as to why and how roughly $150,000 a year got siphoned from scholarship funds [for the needy] into Haden family bank accounts —even if this was done with Board approval. It wasn’t illegal —but it sure as hell undermines and contradicts his image as a ‘nice guy.’ Add to that his involvement in the coliseum renovation fiasco and—- absent an explanation— it’s hard to ever see Haden in the same light again.

          • Amen Mike – I’d go a step farther and wonder just why hasn’t anyone said anything about that scandal and why wasn’t Haden shown the door as soon as it broke – why no public blowback toward Haden – why hasn’t the university made any public statement about the improper receipt of the money? Nikias and the rest of the ‘white left’ crowd love to shout their allegiance to all things ‘multi-culturally-festiviess’ not a peep approaching a year on this scandal and esp. per Haden and any, if any, penalty assigned to him – no he’s gone from the ‘ad’ post and “…nothing to see here folks. Don’t ask about Haden. Now get out!”

          • It’s funny, Alv —that ‘white left’ you refer to did itself proud from FDR to RFK —–now it’s all cheap talk and self- aggrandizement.

          • I found that reference that originated in China and has been used there for the past 2 years as they (Chinese) describe how the white lib left is strangling the west and will cause its’ demise through phony causes no one outside the elite wealthy enclaves give a rip about. The kicker is the Chinese are fed up as somehow part of the ‘oppressive’ class which is nuts as they 1. play by the rules emigration wise and 2. they had nothing to do with the slavery issue the phony left uses to demonize people who work hard.

  2. Good for UCLA winning a meaningless cup…is that what we are saying? I mean Bear Down bruins or is it Hook’em bruins ?
    Whatever when there is a new sponsor maybe people will care..
