USC Morning Buzz: What Does Coliseum’s Official Title Become?

Is USC going to remove “Los Angeles” from the title of the Coliseum? It intends retain the “Memorial Coliseum,” which is big of the university to allow the tribute to World War I veterans. Originally, the Coliseum was a tribute to “Los Angeles” veterans of World War I.

So does it become United Memorial Coliseum? United Airlines Memorial Coliseum? Will it become a memorial to those assaulted on United flights? The good part is the Coliseum is too iconic for USC to really alter its name in the eyes of the public. I hope.

  1. Reader Poll: How many times will Wolf milk the yanking the guy off the plane joke? I’m gonna say 17. I think we’re at 5 right now.

Can the Daily News not afford an intern to check the Blogger’s grammar?

  3. Blah, blah, blah. Never once have I called it the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Never once have I heard a friend call it that. Everyone knows where it is. Blah, blah, blah.

Hopefully, United gets some big play out of this. They came up big, giving USC the most lucrative naming rights deal in history. Fight On!

    • Leave that common sense at the door sir. You would probably have the audacity to not include the “Allstate” portion of the title when you’re discussing the Sugar Bowl too.

    • So you don’t tell people you are going to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, in Exposition Park, to watch the University of Southern California football team play?

  4. United Airlines Field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. What do I win?

    • Fight On United Airlines Field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, but Dragged off the United Airlines Field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum has a certain ring to it

  5. Could be worse. After he cuts the $ 3B Shoe Deal, Pauley Pavilion will become Big Baller Pavilion.

  6. The airlines not going to give that 70 million away, so bet your bottom dollar, that it’s gonna be “United Airlines Memorial Coliseum”

    • I’m good with that. I know I’m in the minority, but it’ll always be known as simply the Coliseum anyway and USC rakes in 70+ mil for selling vapor in commerce. Nice deal.

  7. It has been a long time since I heard Staples Center and even thought of the Office Supply Company. This may also explain why there are two unsold suites yet…probably going to United Airlines.

  8. We sold the naming rights. Its definitely going to be different. They didn’t pay $70million for nothing.

  9. I may be in the minority, though I hope not, but I thinking naming rights for fields, stadiums and other building is a waste of money. No matter what the official name of the Coliseum is, I will always call it the Coliseum, as most people will. If SC can get an extra $70M, congratulations to them

  10. Could be alot worse………remember who the Coliseum Naming Rights went to in the beginning of the Movie Baseketball?

  11. How about something like how the Rose Bowl Game does it – The Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual.

“The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as Presented By United Airlines” sounds ok. Keep the historic name in front and the corporate hanger – ons towards the back end, like the Rose Bowl Game.

  12. Take UA’s cash, expand the beer garden and increase the brews you have on tap
