Beware Scouting Reports

In the Internet era, it is hard to tell who really knows what they are talking about when doing NFL draft analysis. But I mention this scouting report on Sam Darnold because it has the following sentence: “Though I don’t consider him mobile, he’s athletic enough to roll outside of the pocket if needed and extend a play.”

Don’t consider him mobile? How many of USC’s plays give Darnold the option to run? How many times does he elude a pass rusher?

But what do I know? Listen to UCLA coach Jim Mora: “As mobile as he is, as heady as he is, keeping his eyes down the field the way that he can, that’s what makes him special.”

Mora said Darnold is mobile. Now we can all agree.

  1. Mora will get another opportunity to comment on Sam’s mobility come November.

    • Can’t wait to see the next drill job on the little gutties at the Coliseum. Darnold and crew will lay another massive beatdown on the always underachieving baby bruins.

  2. Just read on 247 from a reliable source (Not my source but reliable) that the team dislikes EJ Price and that the chances of him returning to the team are slim. Then a friend text me that he heard the team took a vote and it was against him returning.

      • Price?
No we picked him up out of high school in Georgia. Rumor was he was trying to get Chuma Edoga to transfer and it really sent the wrong message to Helton and the team. Now he is at the mercy of them and it doesn’t look good for him at SC.

        • Sam, I think it’s great if Price doesn’t come back. As good as he is, he’d always be trouble. He’s proven that umpteen times now.

          • I’m right there with you.bwe don’t need him as a potential distraction again and let’s all not forget how much of a distraction he was.

          • What has the teenage freshman Price done to merit such judgement? How did much production from other Trojan 2016 recruits? How many pressure minutes (Jefferson, Masina) for 2015 early big stage minutes?
Where is the forgiveness for player when coaches have substance tirades and AD intervention from stands? Do you not believe in second chances for distractions that can and will be handled by the much more mature Helton coaching team?
Should coaches not consider the difficulty and injuries caused by the increasingly talented DL?
Is your source a Hollywood screen writer that would have us believe Helton and staff have turned player personnel and discipline decisions over to other teens players? When will your source announce the players vote on starting line up or which recruits to accept for scholarship limitations? Lets hope that EJ has modified whatever he needed so that his immense talent is not relocated and a year of his life wasted.

          • Yeah if I had Frisch at bel-air tech I’d be worried too – go away just go away

          • Says a lot about a player when majority of the team wants you gone. The list is long. Overall all though just a huge disruptive force that people got tired of trying to help.

          • Not only did he badmoth Clay Helton and the coaching staff, but he was trying to brain wash other players into transferring.

          • Price is a bad apple. God knows why he’s still on campus. There must be some other program he can infect.

          • There was a time when we were hearing a possible return. That sounds like a distant memory now. Let’s move on and focus on the loyal players who won’t be a distraction.

          • Sounds like a leader….being able to brainwash his peers… he sounds like a southern cal head coaching candidate in 2027!

          • Maybe. But at least he actually wanted to be on the football field unlike Mique Juarez.

          • Is Mique under little gutty psychiatric care? I just hope he’s not a threat to himself.

          • He surfaced for spring ball but until I see him making plays he’s still MIA to me.

          • According to the ruin Daily News site he is a project at best and won’t see any meaningful playing time next year.

          • Get ready for your November beatdown in the Coliseum Teddy boy. You little gutties are a laugh. Can’t wait to watch Rosen run himself into the dirt again trying to escape from DLs hot on his lumbering trail.

Funny how Rosen’s already viewed as coddled, damaged ucla goods and he’s only played two disappointing years. Hah, hah, Teddy boy. You bruins are a hot lunch.

          • Rule #1….
Do not poison the well by trying to turn teammates against the coaches.
            Rule #2
Do not give a half @** apology because if the players vote you out that means they don’t believe you.

        • Uh excuse my confusion – Price attempted to entice another player (Edoga) to leave USC or what? I’m unclear of the chronological time line and events that is tied to this post – thanks

          • Exactly. He wanted out last season. Tried to convince Chuma to leave. Chuma almost left. It was a huge mess.

          • Whoa! Was the attempt made after the PA St. victory or was it at the end of 2015? Regardless what a weird stunt esp. as the team seems very poised to make a serious run into post-season for the 1st time since 2005.

          • Before. He wanted out in the 1st month of the season when things were bad. Typical immature kid. Not judging him but that’s the situation.

    • I’ve heard there are very few guys on team that want him back. The kid has a lot of work to do before anybody wants to take a chance on him. I hope he gets another chance and succeeds in life.

      • Me too. Hope he gets a 2nd chance. But if what he did was true and the rumors have any truth it may be a long shot. He was definitely very immature last year. Hopefully he’s made the proper changes in becoming a more mature young man.

        • Give the dude the boot. He tried to wreck SC. Not enough due diligence was done when he was recruited in the first place and the team thinks he’s a real pile. Cut him loose and let him learn from his poor character by getting a fresh start where he hasn’t poisoned the well.

      • I’m all about second chances but this seems like the writings on the wall.

  3. Doubting Sam’s mobility tells me those who claim this haven’t seen enough of his game-film obviously. Sam could have made serious yards last season as a QB if he had wanted to. Who are these scouts?

    • He agreed to become a Social Justice Advocate in Rieber Hall so they kept him on.

  4. Per Wearesc,
Incoming Safety Isaiah Pola-Mao is now on campus. Pola-Mao starts school tomorrow.
    TIME TO WORK!

  5. I think that picture is the two point conversion vs Penn St. Big play. Lousy field conditions.

  6. My last comment regarding EJ Price, Chuma Edoga and OT’s from Georgia….
We may sign another OT from the state. Reading up on James Ohonba and he is very much serious about USC. Do not be surprised if we land another big time Georgia lineman.

  7. If he’s not playing football to earn his scholie, then he should be released and his scholia made available. How can the school justify awarding him the scholie and all associated benefits but nit require him to participate on the team? Is there not a contract demanding participation?
