USC Morning Buzz: Shaqquan Aaron Expected To Return

USC guard Shaqquan Aaron, who declared for the NBA draft but did not hire an agent, will return for his junior season, according to a source. The news was first reported by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Aaron’s return doesn’t really alter things too much. His role was reduced by the end of the season with the increased role of Jonah Mathews. And it didn’t seem like even the coaches were too worried if Aaron returned. But you can never have enough players.

  1. What I saw of him, he is very good. Let him start next season and let him adjust to being a starter. He then will play even better.

    • Only a year ago, the blogger was questioning the coach because of the defections on the team, now with everyone back will he give the coach his due?

      • Not a chance. Enfield has blown up SW’s schtick re USC hoops. We’re a very solid program right now. Question is, with expectations higher, can USC move into a top 25 team category. The Trojans are usually lucky to be top 70.

        • This is a telling season for both Helton and Enfield. Expectations are off the charts for both these programs and with the talent on either roster, excuses won’t cut it. This could well be a year to remember, although I think football is still a year out.

          • You think SC will be better with Darnold gone? I don’t see how a projected #1 draft choice turns down all that dough for another year. Now’s the time for SC. Nobody on our roster comes even remotely close to Darnold who just saves USC’s season and then won the Rose Bowl.

          • No, I don’t think they’ll be better, I’m nearly positive they will. The defense will be much deeper, quicker, and stronger, especially up the middle. I’m also pretty confident that the oline transition from huge and lumbering to big and quick will have taken hold. No I don’t think our next qb will be another SD, but then they won’t have too.
That being said, I still like this team to get us to the playoffs, based on Darnolds leadership skills alone. His will to win. And I think that will be the he greatest gift he leaves this team with, that never out of a game, no situation too big attitude.

    • the only game that i would say he was very good was when sc beat ucla and he scored 20+ points. aaron is really athletic, but his shot selection is often questionable and his basketball iq does not seem to be very high. i don’t know the guy, but he strikes me as a “me” first player rather than team first. that aside, looking at who sc has that can play the 2/3, he will probably get buried on the bench. guys like stewart, melton, mathews, o’bannon (if he’s as good as the recruiting services say he is) should all get more playing time than aaron.

  2. It seems like the fortunes of past USC players that left early only to go undrafted have resonated with these players.

  3. Wow, this USC Basketball is looking very promising. We will have some serious depth next year.

  4. And on that note…..
UCLA strikes out today with big time basketball player MJ Walker who commits to Florida State.

    Pretty good day so far.

    • Where’s Owns? What a piece of work. Too bad for ruination, the Balls are in their court and they can’t do a thing with them. HA HA HA!!!

      • I can’t say if the Bruins were in his final two, but top 4 I know that. They did get the news that Holiday was coming back so there’s that. But Lonzo and TJ Leaf’s absence will be noticed next year for them.
