USC Men’s Golf Update

Tracy Wilcox/Golfweek

After three rounds at the NCAA men’s golf championships, USC is tied for second, one stroke behind Vanderbilt. There are 15 teams left and only 8 will survive after the fourth round. Then the final eight teams enter match play.

Do the golfers out there like this format? If you are No. 1 after four rounds, should you be champion? Or should match play be the format? It seems the NCAA wants to make it more like the Ryder Cup to heighten fan interest.

  1. As a golfer who played competitively in high school, college and some minor pay tournaments, I hate this stupid format.

Either make it a stroke play format or invite the top 16 and make it match play, but the combo thing is a gimmick that’s stupid

    • Love to see the school win and I’ll take your word for it re. the current layout of the tournament. Don’t be upset but that old maxim by Mark Twain for me rings true “…golf is a good walk spoiled.”

    • I don’t get the thinking that you have to have all these teams play 4 days just to cut the field to 8 teams. Cut it to 8 teams after one day and give the top individual their medal and then have the match play begin. That’s what I like to watch.

  2. To win it in college men’s golf you have to perform 6 days in a row, more than any other sport, college or pro? It is overkill….

    • That’s why it’s so important to know how to get a good night’s sleep….

      • No excuse for Tiger getting a DUI when he should always have a limo driver.

        • What’s it been 6 years? More since he was ‘outted’ as an adulterer – poor guy has never been the same since. Time to take stock and clean it up.
