Tough Field

USC basketball is going to play in the Diamond Head Classic in December and it’s a real Murderer’s Row of opponents: Akron, Davidson, Miami, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Utah State and Hawaii. Andy Enfield probably couldn’t wait to enter this one.

  1. Seen that great article on the # of transfers that are admitted by
    USC on today’s print/on-line L A T}M3S? by Rosanna Xia? >1500

    Check this from the article

““In any given year, about 1.6 million students in the country will
enroll for the first time as a community college student,” he said.
“About 10% of those will transfer to another institution — so about
160,000. About 2% of those will go to a private university. So if USC
    alone enrolls 800, that’s 800 out of 3,200. … That’s really dramatic.”

I did I transferred in my last two years from a JC.

  2. Good call on Enfield’s part to infuse some great new talent with current team before tackling tougher opponents in conference. Enfield knows what he is doing.

    • Lol, no. You play tough teams to get ready for the big dance, the Pac 12 is hardly “tough”

      • Then according to you, USC will have to change conferences to get ready for your so-called “big dance”. Sorry, but a couple tough pre-conference games won’t do it.

ucla played UK extremely tough pre-conference, beat two nobodies in the tourney, then got annihilated when it counted against UK. Great tactic by the bruins, showing their tougher out-of-conference schedule didn’t mean diddly squat when it counted and they got bounced as always.

So what “tough” conference would you suggest USC transfer to for basketball? This should be good.

        • Jack please warn the guy before you finish him off with uppercut

      • bozo u goes 14 – 0 in non – conf and 10 – 8 in P-12 conf. play.

So bozo u won 9 P-12 games vs sub-500 opponents, won a game vs UCLA, and lost 8 games to + .500 teams.

        • Our best fan always keeping track of all of our stats. Thanks for your support. Your like a father to USC. Not a Ball father but close.

          • Fairly easy to do ricki. 14 – 0 vs cupcakes and 10 – 8 vs competition.

The bozos only lost by 32 at Pauley.

          • USC is 4-2 in last 6 meetings with UCLA. But you lose much better. UCLA losing the right way.

          • How about being 0 for life in NC’s? Is that a trend? SC was tied for 5th in conference and you are excited? If your football team did that you’d want to fire the coach.

You should be one of the preseason favorites with everyone returning. Can Andy deliver? This is his best shot.

          • Enfield is in the same place that Alford was last year. Should be interesting to see if he can meet or exceed the expectations. Alford certainly didn’t.

          • Alford pretty much met expectations last year. The Bruins were picked 3rd and they finished 3rd in league. Won a nice game at UK but failed to beat them when it really mattered. Kind of like Harrick against Indiana in the MacLean era. Alford has proven to be mediocre and I have never been a fan. You can’t win without playing D and SC has the same issue.

  3. All together now Rah-Rah’s: Cream puffs and cupcakes to the melody of Crimson and Clover.

    • Jack makes a great point your tough schedule got you a whole extra game in the tourney before getting deballed by Kentucky.

      • Gee Ray that hurts, but I’ve got a better life than bozo u has a competitive BB schedule.

        • I don’t base my life around a basketball schedule from a school I graduated from. If you have a “better life,” then why do you troll SW’s blog? That’s damn pathetic.

          • You say pathetic, I say fun. And, I get to interact with bozo u scholar’s such as yourself.

Come on Ray, croon a few bars of “Cream Puffs and Cupcakes.”

          • I call it interaction because you post to my attention and respond to my comments.

          • Not all the time you sicko. Does trolling make you aroused? Do you have “special time” in the shower because of it?

          • Hey Owns your daughter Reality Winner just was arrested. Have you started a defense fund for her yet?

  4. It is what it is. Enfield has no shame with the low life schedule. Fortunately away from the Galen Ctr. He and the team get a nice
trip to the Islands. They better win the tournament. I was there last June with better things to do then watch this field perform.

    • He’s making millions of dollars avoiding competition so why change now?

        • None of those teams listed for the tournament are glamour teams. But at least Davidson plays real programs like North Carolina and Kansas in nonconference.

          • UCLA is a bigger name than SC in basketball. Reverse it for football. No secret.

I said they were respectable and solid programs. Davidson is always well coached. Not marquee, but solid. Not cupcakes.

  5. Again, he’s padding his schedule to make sure his win/loss record ensures he get to 20 wins. That tactic is getting old, so very transparent and embeds the program in lower tiers.

    • Even good high school coaches know to schedule hard teams in tournaments in December to toughen their teams up for the league play and the playoffs. This seems lost on Andy. I’d expect this from the coach at Oregon State.

  6. This post is egregiously inaccurate. According to the tournament site, Utah State is not in this tournament, while Princeton (not mentioned by the blogger) is.

Miami is an ACC team currently that won 21 games last year and is ranked No. 12 in the ESPN way-early-early rankings.

New Mexico State was in the NCAA tournament last year, seeded higher than USC. Middle Tennessee State was a 12 seed that beat a 5 seed, Minnesota.

Princeton was a 12 seed last year. Oh, and Akron won 21 games.
    So, let’s recap:

Two teams ranked in the preseason top 15: USC and Miami
Five tournament teams from last year: Miami, USC, NMSU, MTSU and Princeton.
Six teams (out of 8) from last year with 20 or more wins.

But yeah. These are a bunch of cupcakes. Spin on!
