USC Is In Florida

USC has staff members at the Florida Atlantic camp today. It makes sense. It’s a good chance to see some Florida prospects and Lane Kiffin is still on good terms with Clay Helton, Tee Martin, etc. Michigan, Illinois and Tennessee are among the schools in attendance.

  1. Iman (Biggie) Marshall’s father Tony is on the USC Podcast with Adam J. Maya. Pretty good stuff. He says Iman didn’t like Notre Dame because the players personalities were too standoff-ish, that Michigan and Jim Harbaugh f*cked up any chance on his visit when they were trying to make him a safety. “Damn it Jim I’m a Corner not a safety!”

      • Andy for you i will!!!

Tony Marshall on Lavarr Ball and his overconfidence, etc….

–“He was the same way back then.”
        –“I never took him seriously”
(He wasn’t dissing him, but it was really funny in the context of the interview)

Lavarr even told Tony he has to “mate” with a women who will berth tall boys. That’s funny!!!!!

        YEAH, HE ACTUALLY SAID “MATE”

    • I agree with Harbaugh, who obviously has some evaluation skills.

So far, Iman’s been beat like a drum as a CB but is a very good hitter. Things may change, but during Iman’s first two years, he looked a lot better as a tough S than a CB pretender.

      • Jack,
I disagree. Let’s get this out of the way, but Iman played the worst game of his life @ Oregon. To be fair, the game was over before he started to get picked on. I will say that Justin Wilcox was way in over his head by assuming Iman was a lockdown CB that early, on that defense, and against Oregon’s athletes.

Stanford at home last year. They tried to beat us with Iman’s inexperience and he was guilty of a good number of holding penalties. But again he was a true freshman starting in his second game of his career and second game of the year with no help from veteran Chris Hawkins at all because Hawkins was getting beat by Furd’s TE.
Our defense was terrible under Wilcox and just look at the Notre Dame. Adoree played his worst game along with Cheek and Leon McQuay.
His freshman year wasn’t bad at all but his spotlight was surrounded by a bend but don’t break defense. Lot of penalties. But he was still voted as a Freshman All American (true freshman). Iman actually outplayed the coaching he received from Sark!

****2 INT’s against UCLA. Big time plays in his toughest assignment to date. The Bruins tried to bully him by thinking Jordan Payton was gonna have his way with Iman but he showed why Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher wanted him as their up to the line CB to be physically rough on bigger WR’s. Sorry Josh!!!****

        Sophomore year………
He did f*ck royally in the opener when he stopped playing after running out of bounds. That hurt. That’s on him but also his coaches for not drilling him on knowing football 101 as a DB to keep on playing.

But he definitely got better and made a lot of tackles that our safeties and Adoree couldn’t make. He still had the holding penalties, but Iman had games where the QB couldn’t attempt a completion to his side.

        Think about the Losses……
Alabama we get stomped, but Iman comes away with an INT against the #1 team. He held his own against Stanford. What Marvell Tell and CHawk were thinking that day will haunt them for a long time because they were exposed at safety. Oh yeah, JUJU SMITH quit in his teammates that game also like the Pac-12 CG.

Utah….He played good all game but we only remember his pass interference towards the end. AND TO BE FAIR NO PASS RUSH BY OUR DLINE ONLY WORKED TO UTAH’S ADVANTAGE. Adoree ended up slipping out of his shoe and we’re 1-3……

*Let’s see…He held Jordan Lasley without a catch in the UCLA game after Adoree Jackson and Marvell Tell gave up that quick long TD pass*

*He held Equinimius St. Brown without a catch in the Notre Dame game. No passing at all to ND’s best WR…..Don’t forget that Adoree had one of the best games ever against ND but gave up a TD pass that day also*

***The Rose Bowl game our defense gave up 7 consecutive TD’s to Penn St. We looked like we were gonna run out of luck. But Marshall made his presence felt with the INT on the first play of the game. He played like the better Cornerback for sure with Penn State going at Adoree and our safeties AGAIN getting beat. Penn State tried to look his way and they had nothing and our LB’s along with the other DB’s are now on Penn State’s highlight film. He is a lot better than we think.***

Again. Marshall is a lot better than we give him credit for and both Todd Mcshay and Mel Kiper have him as a “Legitimate 1st Round pick after he plays his junior season” That’s as an NFL CB….

        • You’ve obviously studied Biggee to a much more intense degree than I have. Still, my impression of his one-on-one skills (thus far) is much less enthusiastic than yours. Hopefully, he picks up his game, at least in my eyes.

I know I saw enough to justify my football viewing circle’s opinion that he needs a lot of work. And obviously, Jim,Harbaugh saw Biggee more as I have, with his cover skills not being his strength.

For instance, I would call that first-play RB pick more like a punt return than an interception, for obvious reasons. He could have probably turned around and caught that flailing duck behind his back.

I could point out a lot of his bad cover jobs but I’m pulling for the Trojans to win it all this year. For that to happen, I’m hoping he’ll improve significantly, which is always possible with greater maturity.

He’s obviously hooked on CB, like many who prefer that position insist on sticking at. I’m rooting for him big-time, just like I’m pulling for Jack Jones to get a clue.

          • Jack & Sas, thanks for the back and forth. Debates like this are why I come to Insidesocal

          • like we would get this kind of thoughtful commentary from the blogger….

  2. interesting that in this supposedly “free” country only coaches get to be “staff members” gee thanks alot
