Baseball Draft Day 1 Recap

First baseman Nick Pratto of Huntington Beach (above) was selected 14th overall by the Kansas City Royals. Pitcher Hans Crouse of Dana Point was the 66th pick by the Texas Rangers. Shortstop Nick Allen of San Diego is still on the board as Round 3 begins today.

  1. This isn’t new for SC baseball. MLB scoops up a player or players that we were hoping to have on our team. Hubbs knows that this is always a strong possibility. I hope he has a plan because USC baseball is looking at an uphill battle.

    • The USC baseball program is now officially and consistently inferior to all the other local area schools: Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, UCI, UCSB and ucla all push USC around.

      Hubbs’s plan is to hold onto his job as long as possible and he’s basically a .500 coach – at best. Best thing he has going for him is he played well at USC as a student. Otherwise, his nickname is mediocre.

      Other teams lose high draft picks like USC every year and don’t sink to USC’s level. Other expensive private schools, like TCU, are good enough to make it to the College World Series right now.

      No school in the nation has lost as much tradition clout in any single sport as USC has in baseball. Most NCs by far in the history of the sport. Now – Not any good for 20 straight years.
