Just What Southern California Needs, Another Arena

The Clippers will announce tomorrow they will enter a negotiating agreement with the city of Inglewood to build an 18,000-20,000-seat basketball arena. It will be built on 22 acres between Prairie and Yukon Avenues south of Century Boulevard.

Why not? Doesn’t Southern California need another arena? The Clipper Center would be down the street from the Forum, ironically enough. So that means arenas in L.A., Anaheim and Inglewood. Plus the Forum. And the arena in Ontario.

The only good new is that AEG, which owns Staples Center, had no idea the Clippers were going to make this announcement. I’m all for the proposed arena if they use the above rendering for the L.A. Sports Arena from 1956.

  1. Hmm Scott – you like that ‘retro’ Quonset Hut look?

That will place the new basketball stadium directly south of the Inglewood Stadium. Bad area

You want to lose a half-hour just drive south on Crenshaw from Florence to 120th – horrible traffic and the ramps onto the Century Frwy. @ Crenshaw are awful esp. E/B – have to go under the 105 and then west on 120th off Crenshaw.

  2. That’s what you do when you have more dollars than sense. Build a huge building that will be used for one reason.
