Fair Punishment For Louisville?

The NCAA suspended Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino for five Atlantic Coast Conference games following its sex scandal investigation. The Cardinals might also have to vacate their national title in 2013. There are also some scholarship reductions and recruiting restrictions.

“We feel remorse and extreme regret for everything that went on in that dormitory, but this is over the top,” Pitino said.

We can debate whether this is a fitting punishment. But here is what I do know: No school has suffered any penalties close to what USC got since the Trojans were put on sanctions in 2010. None.

In fact, USC basketball’s sanctions were pretty similar to what Louisville just got (one year postseason ban, scholarship reductions, vacated victories) and I’d say there was a lot less control going on at Louisville. But this is the pattern from the NCAA, which lost its appetite for harsh sanctions after USC.

    Then you have ugly with Johnny Cheetin’ Wooden, they should have been stripped of all those purchased banners.

  2. The USC sanctions were harsher than anything since for ONE reason—-they were designed to prevent USC from continuing to dominate college football. They shouldn’t even be called sanctions —they were a political hit job.

The NCAA is simply the front for the People & Institutions behind this Hit Job. Simply look at the College Environment in 2005, then look at it in 2010 and ask who benefitted the most?

  7. And now USC is back on top. We sit at #3 in the Director’s Cup and once again rule the West in football. 25 Rose Bowl wins and the nation’s #1 projected draft pick – Slingin’ Sam Darnold. Gonna be a big-time season for USC football. The table is set. The talent is aboard. Bring on West Mich, Stanford and Texas. Hopefully, GameDay shows up for the Longhorn game.

  9. Quit yer crying, Scotty. Everyone knows usc got off easy given the fact they had by FAR the worst transgressions of any school in history. AND it involved a coach participating in the nefarious plan to get Reggie paid while still in school.

    Frankly, the rest of us are tired of hearing all the whining and crying. USC had their chance to fight the sanctions, but instead simply rolled over and let the NCAA have their way.

  10. Hey dummies, why does the whole world hate southern cal so much?!? The whole world hates you except the Wolfman! He is working hard to keep you relevant some how tying in southern cal into Louisville’s unjust sanctions!
    The difference is southern cal deserves all the sanctions it gets.
