Quarterback Matt Corral, the five-star who is now at Long Beach Poly, has decommitted from USC. He is looking at Alabama, Florida and Georgia, among other schools. This does not surprise in the least. In February, I mentioned the possibility he would never arrive.
“I did decommit from USC,” Corral said in a statement to USA Today. “I have a lot of love for the Heltons and the USC football program. I also thank them for all the knowledge they have shared with me.”
USC offered Utah commit Jack Tuttle this morning but the quarterback said he is still committed to the Utes. Talk about a knee-jerk reaction by USC. But they should have seen this coming. Corral gets a lot of attention and was bound to want to shop around sooner or later. And I always wondered how he would coexist with Jack Sears.
UPDATED: For what it’s worth, I’ve also heard people with ties to Oaks Christian (Corral’s original high school) and USC were not thrilled with Corral’s commitment after his alleged altercation at the school. And it may be a coincidence, but USC offered Class of 2020 QB Bryce Young of Cathedral this afternoon.
UPDATED II: USC has also offered Class of 2021 QB Aaron McLaughlin of Buford, Ga., who attended last weekend’s Rising Stars camp.
