Matt Corral Fallout, Continued

Since it seems USC must sign a QB even with Matt Corral going elsewhere, who is left? One possibility is Justin Fields, the No. 1-ranked dual threat QB in the nation according to Rivals. Fields is considering Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Georgia and North Carolina.

USC has not even offered Fields a scholarship yet. And this is the mystery: If USC wanted to back off Corral, it should have been working behind the scenes with other quarterbacks. Not offering Jack Tuttle on Saturday morning.

  1. Relax .. As I shared a few weeks ago, Corral was gone and that the staff has a qb-corner on the radar.. He has been to all the USC camps..Stanford and Oregon are also looking at him.

  2. If Justin Fields is smart, he wouldn’t give USC a sniff if he wants to play quarterback, because if his dual threat skills don’t develop fast enough, Clay Helton will have him lining up with the receivers.

  3. I’m starting to get the feeling that Corral was more and more a Manziel-type. His style of play, the self-worth, the tattoos, the overconfidence, #2, the Twitter account, his school incident a couple months back…Maybe USC sensed a lot of baggage similar to what Manziel put on full display. Manziel would not be a Helton-type player. Not to mention Darnold’s potential this year, as well as Jack Sears’ in the future as a major deterrent.

  4. A chess master does not telegraph his moves. Maybe this is why the coaching staff hasn’t told the press what to expect.

    • Fall out continued? This is the same drivel from a couple a days ago.

  5. Who says the haven’t. Maybe they should consult with the media first, that’s always a positive……

  6. Wrong. USC decided they didn’t want Corral – regardless of who they get, or don’t get, as a QB. It’s not one for another in USC’s mind.

USC already has their QB set for the next three years, through the 2019 season. They can afford to just take a “guy” now if they want, or they can wait until 2019 and focus on a super hotshot-type.

  7. Sammy, Wally Snider, the 6th grade Pa QB, is still a lock bozo u recruit, correct?

  8. My guess is that if USC had started recruiting QBs hard again, word would’ve gotten out. It would’ve spawned a bunch of needless questions, stories and negative attention for both parties. It would also make Corral look bad. As it happened, they let the kid make the announcement, didn’t talk about it and started making public moves right after the clean break was made. I’m only guessing, but the guy I perceive Coach Helton to be would probably do it that way.

  9. Word on the street is USC may still be recruiting Corral on the down low with conditions on him to clean up his act.

  10. scott since you’re the best at diggin dirt please find out what exactly happened here with matt corral. his statements with helton on “exchanging knowledge with each other” and how they parted ways seems iffy.
