Is Playing Second Fiddle At USC Better Than Starting Elsewhere?

Quarterback Brevin White and the Alemany football team remain in the No. 1 spot in the Daily News Top 20 poll.

So Brevin White has been playing high school football in Southern California for the past three seasons. And USC suddenly likes him this week. I’m not sure what the motivation is for someone like White (or Jack Tuttle or whoever), when the recruitment only comes after Matt Corral decommits and more importantly, you enter USC as the clear second fiddle to Jack Sears. Wouldn’t White be better off going to some school where he knows he will play?

  1. Darnold was 2nd fiddle to Browne, how did that work out? Some people are not afraid of a little competition.

    • Darnold was always better than Browne, it just took Helton & Co longer than most to figure it out

      • The blogger and many commenters on this blog cite one or two anecdotes, and draw overly broad conclusions. Each player is different, and faces different
        competition.

To listen to Cowherd, Sark told Cowherd that Darnold was particularly talented. Cowherd said that he saw it right away, too.

We know very, very little about White. In fact, we know very little about Sears. We know a little more about Fink.

Would any sane advisor give them each the same advice? Doubtful.

    • Exactly… He didn’t care that the almighty “Rick Town” had committed. And no other QB should care, now, that Corral had imploded and blew his chance at SC – his dream school.

  2. Why is this staff panicked about getting a QB ? I’m sure they can get a good kid next year. Use the scholarship for a OL or LB

    • If don’t bring in QB and Darnold leaves you have 2 scholarship QB’s. That is if Sears or Fink don’t transfer after losing starter position. Still have Greene though so probably not necessary. By the way staff is not panicked just covering all the bases. Nobody wants to end up like UCLA and have Falafel starting at QB.

  3. Where can he go where “he knows he will play”??? Blogger knows nothing about sports…

  4. seams like usc will have a qb battle this fall like the epic craft vs. olson vs. cowan battle at ucla a few years ago that gripped the country

  5. Blogger Guy,

So just because Jack Sears is at USC other Qbs should shy away from competing or taking the risk of waiting or not playing?

Blogger Guy, do you recall that Sam Darnold came to USC even though he had the former National Gatorade Player of the Year ready to take over in Max Browne and he also was the second QB in the recruiting class behind Ricky Town. He’s a perfect example of the best of the best will play and to not be afraid of competion.

    • How many former bozo u QB’s have started a SB?

      Pop Quiz Sammy:

What former bozo u QB recently threw 4 int’s and fumbled twice to single handedly lose his team a NFL championship and a SB berth?

  6. some thing else must be up with his decommitment because he says he has interest in alabama as well..they have two former 5 star qb’s fighting for spots already with the kid from hawaii being the frontrunner. if he wants the biggest chance to get a starting gig georgia might be the place if fields doesn’t commit there.

  7. Let us not forget Jalen Greene, who came in as a Quarterback and will contribute any way he can.. I think that makes him more valuable to his future NFL teams.
