Sam Darnold Says You Have To Be Mean In Los Angeles

USC quarterback Sam Darnold is at the Manning Passing Academy this weekend in Thibodaux, La. And he said the people are friendlier than in Los Angeles.

“You learn so much just from how nice the people are compared to people in L.A.,” Darnold said. “It gets super crowded and people are mean to each other. The hospitality here is amazing. Nothing against people from L.A., but you have to be mean if you’re in L.A. it’s just how it is down there. Big cities with a lot of people, something is going to happen.”

So much for making him an L.A. 2024 spokesperson.

        • Your latest wascally ruskies conspiracy theory was scrubbed by the Clinton News Network Friday night at midnight. And now the phony dossier has been traced to your heroine Hitlery. Poor Owns!!

          • Go easy on “Just rents”. He is too stupid to realize how stupid he sounds!

          • Fortune Cookie say: person who use “stupid” to describe another person, ignore large hole in own boat.

          • Every time you post, you make my point! You might have better luck on a bruin board, but I realize that only about 3-4 people would see what you post. Guess it really sucks to be a bruin.

          • The Trumpski/Putain conspiracy treason bucket is still full to the brim.

In fact, after denying Putain’s US election interference as a “Witch Hunt,” Trumpski has conceded the Putain’s guilt.

What “phony dossier.”? Knowing your gullibility 22, this must be another Hannity FOS theory you swallowed.

          • That’s how you full mooner kooks try to spin it now that it is clear no votes were affected in the 2016 election.

  1. If you want to compete in the entertainment capital of the world for media attention it takes a bit of toughness. We have: 2 NFL, 2 MLB, 2 NBA and 2 NHL along with USC and bel-air tech.

      • I agree and Southerners are know for being very hospitable but most people when they are acting as a host tend to be minding their ‘p’s’ and q’s’..

BTW Thibodaux is not New Orleans. Now you move Mr. Darnhold down to New Orleans and he’ll encounter what he has already met here in LA.

          • The most racist places I have ever seen are Chicago, South Boston and Santa Paula..

          • I think Boston in any direction is the most Yankee racist city. I worked with a Boston born and bred AA and he hated anything having to do with Boston.

The Red Sox were the very last MLB team to integrate Black players into the team.

          • Why yes it was and in fact Abe Lincoln witnessed a slave auction when he visited there his 2nd time in 1831 he witnessed a horrific scene at a slave auction and stated “…If ever I get a chance to hit that thing, I’ll hit it hard.”

Things change times do to. My point is to echo what Darhold experienced there in 2017.

          • No worries, wasn’t talking about you, just the concept and from where it came.

          • Never entered my mind Pudly – first year of college I was in Charleston, SC. I swear the guys I hanged with were all north/west of the Mason-Dixon Line and we all 100% felt we were the first northerners in that town since reconstruction. Great and an indelible experience but man what a shock coming out of LA!

          • This was nearly 50 years ago and some of the guys who were with us (i.e. not dyed in the wool southerners) hailed from Dade and Broward Counties. It was as foreign to them as it was to us.

  2. Completely refreshing interview —always appreciate folks whose first impulse is to tell the truth as they see it. Darnold’s honesty and unfiltered instincts are probably why his teammates like and admire him so much.

  3. LA and California are full of liberals, who are very hateful……So he is most likely right.

  4. Who knew, the Piglet pulls a Rodney King.

Was the Piglet mean when he supplanted Browne?

    • You just confirmed my post. You are so full of hate. It really is sick. You never went to UCLA. I can tell that. When I was at USC, we partied with UCLA sororities. We had great relations with our fellow Sig Eps at UCLA. We treated the rivalry as FUN.

      • Something has pushed Owns off the deep end. These last remarks are really unworthy of him. In the past, he made sense one out of four times —-now, it’s mostly “piglet” stuff…….

          • He made a comment about the quality of Mark Twain’s writing 2 years ago that I really liked. He used to show a better side once every so often……

        • Fifteen minutes ago Justin Fields tweets he’s received an offer from USC. Visited earlier this month. Maybe coaches had a plan? No?

      • We never got into fights. In fact, in 87 (? sorry if I’m off by a year), when SC beat UCLA in an upset, I was riding my bike with a gal on my bike handles, and and LAPD officer drove up next to us…..I had a beer in my hand……he said, not exactly quoting….with all the excitement, you would think USC just won a big game? I replied, yes, we just beat UCLA…..he replied….I went to UCLA, and then drove off…..very cool

      • Ray old stick, what does your Owns hate rant have to do with RK’s plaintive question “Can’t we all get along?”

  5. If you’re looking for friendly people, L.A. and New York are not the place. If you want friendly people, find some place where life is a little bit slower where people are not trying to step all over each other to get ahead. SoCal has the best weather in the world but not the friendliest people. People are here for the weather and the jobs, not the smiles on peoples faces. Angelinos are too busy to smile.

    • True so true. Here in CA the best folk seem to be in the San Joaquin Valley.

      • Makes sense. I’ve been through there. Never actually stopped but there was a lot of farmland and it looked like a place where life would be much slower than it is here. Even if I did stop, I probably wouldn’t notice the smiles on peoples faces. I’m a SoCal guy. Don’t have time to smell the roses.

    • Just got back from a holiday in Australia. I felt it too, in LA people are stepping on you to get ahead, in Oz, people tried to bring everyone up like the tide. Don’t know how many times I heard a genuine ‘excuse me’ when I did a simple LA walk by, Aussie took it as they were in MY way, I took it like, you left two feet in front of you so I made the pass…LoL

      • Yeah….you almost have to get out of this town for a little bit to notice the difference.

  6. sounds like Wee Wille Darnold is SARED of all the LA meanies!!

    he may need a HUG!!!

    #HAWR-HAWR!!!

  7. totally understand his sentiments–I noticed the friendliness difference between LA and the Southeast US when I moved here over 25 years ago….

  8. I do hope Sam gets a chance to walk around the Bronx for a few hours. Or Humbolt Park in Chicago!

  9. My 2-Cents worth, which might be over-stating the value:

Most big cities are less friendly than the outer reaches, or suburbs or rural areas– London, Paris, Cairo, Los Angeles, New York etc, in my experience. Why?– Well, when you have too many rats in a small space they tend to get territorial. And that is not friendly

Life outside the cities is cheaper, which means there is less stress on making money. Traffic is less congested, and people can actually drive to see friends and acquaintances more quickly.

The introduction of mothers having to work to help support the family. Once upon a time mothers did not have to work. Now they are almost thrown into the fray in order to make ends meet. Consequently, the kids don’t get the motherly attention they need in order to be trained to be tolerant and even sweet citizens.

The internet and smart phones in which people “communicate.” Of course, this affects all areas of the world, but the end result, in this one man’s opinion, is that it has created a much less friendly atmosphere. I mean, for example, it is much easier to “unfriend” someone online than in person or on the telephone.

The age of Trump, politicians, athletes and Hollywood types badgering each other with wild abandon. That sets the example for the leftovers (us).

The age of spiritualism and not religion. I am not sure what spiritual is, for most people today, but if it does not include God then count me out. Of course, religions have become more assertive than ever to declare their way as the only way. They are more corporate than ever. No wonder the young are turned off, which leads to less direction and no moral compass.

I told you this commentary was only worth 2-cents. Perhaps less?

  10. Not living in the L.A. area anymore I can see huge difference in how people disregard others when I do come to town. I is a mean place, compared to living in other areas. Louisiana is one of the friendliest places I have ever been to, and have been many many times.
