A USC-Duke Flashback

Since prep phenom Marvin Bagley is considering USC and Duke, here’s a photo from the Trojans playing the Blue Devils in 1978 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke had just played in the NCAA championship game nine months earlier. And the Trojans played Duke that season too! If only that happened these days. Duke won the above game, 79-65.

UPDATED:  No. 30 for USC is Darryl Smith. I’m not sure who No. 20 is. And No. 20 for Duke is star forward Gene Banks. The tall USC player next to Banks is forward Doug Widfeldt, who died in 2015. He was the Trojans’ most inspirtational player in 1979.

UPDATED No. II: USC forward Maurice Williams is No. 20.

  1. the writer makes a good point but hes also not taken into acount the number of states and the poppulation back than, it was more likely to play another scool cuz theyre were less people in the united states as its called, know with more states and people its harder to play the same scools,

  2. Duke won, I’m shocked.

Is it any wonder Andyain’twinning only schedules non-conf cream puff home games – cheap bozo u wins are better than competitive losses.

    • Wow, arguing losses are good seems like standard Bruin fan logic. Do you think Bagely will not have to attend classes at Duke? Apparently that is the only reason he is considering USC.

  3. Hey just in case there was a question of ‘divine oblige’ there’s this front page report on how vin-dawg chevrolet did at the Hollywood Bowl last Thursday and whoa nellie he’s going to reprise his ‘ah shucks’ modesty again tonight. he’s speaking Abe Lincoln’s words to Aaron Copland’s ‘WPA-FDR’ theme and he’s all googoo eyed over Gustavo Dudamel and the Venezuelan towards the dawg named ‘vin’.

Vin-dawg….when he ‘let’s go’ in the toilet why of course. it smells like springtime….

    • all this to show you don’t like Viin Dawg….probably one of two people in So Ca who would bash Scully the greatest of the great. do you think that makes you special?

all it means is you are an angry jr high teaching doooooshbag who gets picked on by his students daily.

      • He was best friends with the peckerhead when he first hit LA back in 1958 – now go and polish woodrow’s nose and his back end you’re so good at it

        • Alvarado, you forgot to tell brutus to give Johnny Cheetin’ Wooden’s statue a boudet wipe.

          • Why you’re right! But you know even the peckerhead actually had to go out and: coach, compete and recruit…..now as to the vin-dawg….sweet ride – in for life at 23, never had to work with anyone after Red Barber left the booth back in Sept. 1953, suckups telling him he’s god 24/7 (check that – that WAS the peckerhead as well).

For the vin-dawg everything is jake….vinnies favorite song is/was the same as woodrow’s “Oh come let us adore him!’
