  1. It shall be done. USC wiped the floor with UW in Seattle last year. Darnold was so much better than Browning, it was laughable.

The other thing laughable is ucla. The little gutties have a so-called first round draft pick at QB and they still didn’t get one single vote to win the Pac-12 championship. Easy to see why. They never do.

    • Those ruins keep ranting “wait till November”, unfortunately for them, we have much bigger fish to fry. We are always looking forward to January when the big dogs play.

      • ucla is the least of SC’s worries now. They crumbled last year under higher expectations and accordingly, no one expects anything from the little gutties this year.

ucla people are pretty mum nowadays about their crappy, always-underachieving team. What are they gonna say? Rosen for President?

    • I cannot see that school across town winning at Stanford (Mora can’t beat Shaw), definitely won’t win at Washington where Rosen won’t be quick enough to evade the Husky blitzes and throwing picks, will get the game controlled on them at Utah, will no doubt be unable to stop Texas A&M from scoring to start the season, let alone have anything left for USC. They should be thrilled with a 7 & 5 record.

      • Should be another banner ucla year. 7-5 sounds about right, unless Rosen goes face down again.

        • I still question the heart of their qb, should the o-line have problems I can see him quitting to protect himself for the draft. Their line was miserable last year and I can’t see any difference this year. That Miami retread couldn’t get playing time on a mediocre team.

      • 3-9 .They have no credible backup QB when Rosen goes down against Texas A & M..

        • I agree, after the first series, Rosen throws in the towel on the season. He won’t want to hurt his nfl draft hype.

      • Distinct possibility. Although let’s not overlook Utah. I’m thinking now the UCLA vote is Lavar.

  2. There’s still that school up in Palo Alto that Clay Helton has yet to defeat, so let’s not forget about them .

    • STAN doesn’t have a QB, lost McCaffrey and gets the Trojans at the Coliseum. After last season’s fiasco in Palo Alto, after which Swann had a big talk with Helton, SC moved to Darnold and hasn’t been the same since. STAN lost McCaffrey for a couple of games and got absolutely drilled last season.

All the pressure will be on SC and Helton to beat STAN this year with a fully capable team after STAN has had its way with us for awhile.

Nobody is forgetting about STAN, least of all any player or coach on the USC team. We owe them bad and have the revenge factor working for us.

And by the way, Shaw’s never beat a USC team like the one he’ll face in Sept. So we’ll see how he does against a USC team no longer really hampered by player numbers and QBd by a possible #1 pick. SC’s gonna drill them. And if they don’t, Helton will lose a lot of prestige, which he can’t afford to do.

      • It’s not Stanford we should be worried about in my opinion. We’ll take care of them. It’s Texas after a physical game and Wash St. on the road in a short week. Get though that and we are playoff bound.

        • Nice points —-add this: while we’re playing Stanford the week before Texas, Texas has a laugher at home against San Jose State—-a team picked to finish DEAD LAST in the mighty Mountain West Conference. Let’s just say Texas isn’t going to come into the Coliseum physically drained.

          • I’d much rather tune up with WEST MICH than SJS, which won’t prepare the Horns for diddly. That’s just a walk-thru for TEXAS. At least USC has a worthy opponent which can get USC ready for a difficult game, like STAN. So much improvement can come after game 1-2. How does SJS give any bounce to TEXAS? Oh, that’s right. They start off with MARYD!

          • I agree totally that Western Michigan is a great tune up for Stanford —-I just think there’s a chance we come out of the Stanford game banged up for Texas. (And….I can guarantee you that Texas will NOT be banged up after Maryland and San Jose State).
I’ll say this— I think Trojans 6942 is right: we beat Stanford and Texas and we’re off to the races

          • We’ll take TEXAS. That team is not used to winning. They’re totally used to losing. Oh, Herman will have them up and running in year 2. But they’ve got growing pains to go through.

If the Horns should somehow pop off and beat USC right off the bat at the Coliseum, then I guess all us who wanted Herman as the USC HC will have been proven totally right all along. If Herman accomplishes that, regardless of schedule, Helton will be in for some royal (no pun intended) tough times. And if Helton somehow loses to both STAN and TEXAS, he’s as good as dead at SC.

So, I guess I say, if we lose to either STAN or TEXAS, it’s a big step backwards for this team and Helton.

          • USC WILL beat Stanford on September 9th—you can take that to the bank, Jack. And we’re ALMOST a lock against Texas, too. My only reservation all along is that we need every single starter on the O-Line available to protect Sam on September 16th. I’d hate to see us mixing and matching against a pumped up Texas team.

          • I still say we have no excuses losing to TEXAS. If we can’t protect Sam from the Horns in Sept, I say Helton deserves a beat down. He already started last season like a newbie. If Herman comes into L.A. and whups him in year 1 in Austin, then life without Sam doesn’t look so good. Helton’s got plenty of talent to beat TEXAS. Maybe he’s just not good enough to beat Herman. That’s the way the press is gonna look at this. Me too.

          • Okay, Jack, you’ve flushed me out —-I think we should beat both Stanford and Texas (and I think we will beat both Stanford and Texas). But September ain’t gonna be no cakewalk.

          • Don’t you think it should be that way? I love SC’s schedule. And we SHOULD beat STAN and TEXAS, both talented, but a little down. We’re loaded and led by Big Sam – the greatest Trojan QB ever. We start off with three straight great super home games!

You really should pick up the Lindy’s College Football Pre-Season Yearbook. There’s so much SC stuff in there it’s amazing. They even pick USC as the #1 combined sport (football and basketball) school in the country, ahead of Florida, Louisville, Alabama and West Virginia.

          • Deep down I think this is gonna be USC’s year, Jack. By the way, Lindy’s LOVES USC. Even in our off years, they have us a half dozen spots higher than everybody else. This is the year we reward ’em for their protracted loyalty.

          • Lindy’s picks ALA over USC for the NC. Can’t say I disagree. That’s the bet to take.

Killer Saban ties Bear Bryant for most all-time NCs with 6 at USC’s expense. Will be painful to watch for Trojan fans, especially after last year. We haven’t earned any better prediction.

          • I’ll bet you a hamburger and a beer right now that, if we play Alabama in the NC game, we’ll win it. I’ve seen too many of these revenge rematches not to know how that one turns out (hint: think USC/ Notre Dame the year FOLLOWING the 51 to zip blow out).

          • Who knows? I’ll let the season play out before I bet any burgers. What would bother me the most about playing ALA in the title game would be that last season Saban lost on the last play of the game to CLEM, 35-31.

One of Saban’s favorite sayings is, “Never Waste A Failure.” If he gets to the NC game for this season, he’ll be shooting for #6, and a reckoning with last season, which would tie him with Bear Bryant. So now, it’s already 5 for Saban, 0 for Helton.

If you look at it that way, I’m not sure the USC/ND 1966/1967 turnaround means as much. It’s not like ALA won’t be loaded for bear if they make the NC game. They’ll be playing to make up for last season.

One thing is sure. Alabama would be favored. USC will have to pull the upset against an Alabama team with a shot at all-time history making success. I’d still say advantage Alabama, especially because Saban came SO CLOSE last Jan.

          • Personally, I don’t think Alabama will even BE in the NC game. I think they’ll launch their season with a loss to Florida State — and close it with a loss to Auburn. But I hope I’m wrong —and that we get a chance to pay them back in front of a HUGE audience. Even if it means I’m out some hamburger and beer money. Fun season ahead, Jack!

          • I guess we should just hope it’s not USC vs PSU. They might be gunning for us, ya think!

  3. USC has the Vince Lombardi of College as head coach, how could the Trojans go wrong!?
