Morning Buzz: Can Anyone In Pac-12 Unseat Favorite USC?

During Day 1 at Pac-12 media days, USC players and Clay Helton were not available, so I looked at the odds someone could surprise the Trojans, who were picked to win the conference.

As usual, it starts with stopping QB Sam Darnold.

“I would try to be disruptive,” said former Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti, who now works for the Pac-12 Network. “You don’t have to blitz. Just give different looks. Like stunts. You can blitz. Really, you just do anything you can do.

“I wouldn’t want to play (against Darnold).”

  1. bozo u FB: 2017’s most over rated CFB team according to CFN.

    Somethings never change.

    • Are you referring to the fact that Owns L.A. never changed to Just Owns?
And you are right the fact that USC has the better team never changes. The fact that trolls love this forum never changes.

      • If he had his own team, winning team, he could be somebody on that team’s blog. Unfortunately, for him, his team sucks and so does it’s blog…he gets his only identity coming here, poor little owns.

        • It’s always about USC in L.A. That’s why the bruin Trolls live here. They obviously like getting punked by Trojan fans. So USC gets ’em on the field and on the Internet. Nice.

        • Just imagine if your team hadn’t won a NC in 63 years, it makes the f uuclans crazy to watch the decades of futility go by. They were closer to winning a NC in 1967 than they are 40 years later. The last sniff was December 1998 when Brad Melsby gave up the football on the 20 yard line and the fuuclans lost to Miami.

          • Well normally they would say they’re a basketball school, but even that identity expired. Then softball, but they even struck out there..poor, poor miserable ruins.

      • No, I’m referring to bozo u FB, the most overrated CFB team in 2017 according to CFN.

There is also no doubt bozo u’s cheesy, bouquet 2 chick, beach blanket bingo, wollyball team is better the UCLA’s.

        • Well I looked that up. USC is indeed on the list of most overrated teams for 2017. What a surprise? A publication in Chicago doesn’t like a West Coast team. They also trashed LSU so what does that prove? It tells me that sports writers have opinions.
I was in Virginia one summer when Athlon football preseason predictions hit the newsstands. Teams up and down the eastern seaboard were rated in high regard. I found a half page about “Southern Cal” (because in Virginia SC is the gamecocks)
Upon returning I found the same publication with the Trojans and Bruins on the cover. All of this preseason hype is just that. Hype and $50 will buy you a ticket on the 50 yard line at the Rose Bowl during football season.
Finally Owns I must agree with something you have posted several times. USC is bozo U. Every time I think I can ask you to retire the clown college moniker I find something that points to the stupidly of the school’s administration. (Shakes head in disillusion hangs it in shame)

    • I strongly believe this will be Mora’s last year at in Westwood and it won’t be a good one. His college coaching career is on the same trajectory as his NFL career.

      • It won’t be. Thug U aka ugly is too cheap to buy Mora out. He has a few more years on the contract. They will wait it out. They don’t want to spend the Under arms money.

        • Mora fits in perfectly in that PC Paradise. They won’t fire him if he goes 6-6 and makes the Advo Care Bowl.

    • Just like the Ucla mantra “We Own LA”.. Ummm lol NOT! It sucks being the stepchild to powerhouse USC Trojans..

  2. Rivalry games are always fraught with what the oddsmakers contend is not likely….2006 anyone?

  3. Of course they can – the conference is too strong. Except Cal, that is. They’re not beating more than a team or two all season. In fact, our ability to rest players in that game will be critical for the subsequent short week.

    • Pac-12 is ‘strong’? Sorry but based on what? This past year’s bowl results? The SEC and Big 10 are the top dawgs right now with the ACC and Pac-12 3rd and 4th.

      • Lulz.. bowl results mean squat. Who are these teams playing? And who is getting into bowls in the first place, with a bunch of those conferences only playing 8 conference games. When was the last time the Pac played the SEC in a bowl game? It’s rare. So the results are supposed to mean, what?

        • If the Pac-12 were truly a dominate top tier then they’d win some tough OOCs at the start of the season – they don’t.

2016 – 1st USC lost to AL, Cal lost 3 in a row to HI then SD St and finally TX ucla lost to TX A&M, OR St. lost to MN, AZ lost to BYU, 2nd WA St. lost to Boise St., 3rd game OR lost to NE, CO lost to MI. Sole victor in the 1st OOC was Stanford against KS St.

The Pac-12 does not win out of conference games against ‘tough’ opponents – they flat out don’t.

          • Nice one-year sample size, but sure, I’ll give it to you that the conference blows early ooc games – Wazzou being the worst. Larger sample shows you SC beating Auburn (x2), Ohio State, Arkansas (X2), Nebraska (x2), etc, etc.

          • You just made my point…USC and who else? The sole reason anyone thinks of the Pac-12 is USC and I don’t care how much Stanford wishes they were relevant they’re not and never will be.

OR had one shot and lost.

We are the sole threat nationally to the dominance the SEC has had since 2005 –

          • Both sacked when they went to the NFL just as Sabin was…expect Kelly’s return

          • Bill Snyder ‘IS’ KS St.. He’s a great coach taking a truly unknown moribund program to credible respect nationwide.

Yup aside from OK St. and KS St,. there ain’t anyone else in that conference currently worth a darn: OK and TX new head coaches….Baylor about to get exposed with those assault charges to be released. Patterson hasn’t done much since he brought TCU in. The rest are toast unless their commissioner gets smart and offers a deal to Cincinnati and BYU – they’ll (Big 12) be outside looking in again this January 2018

          • What does BYU bring to the conference is does not already have? Not trying to put BYU down, but the answer is nothing.

          • Not true – it gives UT back their in-state rival which I gather is on a hit-or-miss lately when it comes to scheduling. The problem is what to do w. CO. Whose their rival? Not CO St. ‘was’ NE but they seem very happy (I guess) in the Big 10. Pull NM out of the Mountain West? Boise St.?

The Big 12 claims they are ‘settled’ but the skinny seems to be OK is very restless.

          • Not a fan of Colorado either, but at least they bring another television market. BYU does not. BYU and Utah are back to playing each other. It means even more to BYU now because they feel slighted. They also play each other in all sports.
BYU would only join if the conference is willing to accept conditions, the PAC should never accept a school under thier conditions.

          • You seem to not like BYU i.e. a fan more towards UT. BYU has a national tv network that wouldn’t hurt the Pac-12 esp. the current lousy deal Scott signed before checking w. Direct TV

          • Nothing against BYU, didn’t like adding UT and Colorado. No need to redo a bad move by making another one. The national network you reference would not be a good thing. That is one of thier conditions, the network is theirs and they want a say in how it is run. Tell me how that is good for the rest of the conference. Thier fan base does not travel well. This does not help the conference.

If I had my way it would be back to the PAC10. But I don’t make the calls.

          • I agree, bringing in BYU doesn’t expand the conference footprint in recruiting , doesn’t add market for tv, really doesn’t add anything. Trouble is, Texas and Oklahoma have much better tv deals than the PAC 12. You’d be asking them to take a big cut..

      • The Pac 12 is USC, UW and the 10 Dwarfs. Stanford is down, CO will be down, the Ducks and fuuclans are terrible.

        • WA has a weak OOC schedule this year to start the season: @ Rutgers (Friday 1st Sept.) , then home against MT and Fresno St. before they go to CO on the 23rd Sept..

Their road is: CO, OR St., Stanford and AZ St. the rest ( Cal, bel-air tech, OR, UT and WA St.) all home.

          • Yes they did and when they faced a true national contender – USC – they got found out.

Still remember their qb laying prone on the ground shrieking at getting sacked late in the game.

  4. Aliotti, you just described what oregon tried last year. Try anything to see if you can stop him. It didn’t go so quite well for Oregon, did it?

    • Trying is not doing. But to be fair–Oregon had an epically bad defense last year. The defense as much as anything go the entire staff fired

  5. Once again, USC has the most talent than any team in the PAC 12, but not the best coaching staff, and they are young and inexperienced on the line of scrimmage.

    • Not so young an inexperienced on the O-Line… And the pups on the D-Line (Marlon, Jay) should be formidable.

    • Fred,
I think the statement about the coaching staff is premature. Let us see what he does in their second and third season. In the third season, both McKay and Carroll won a national championship. I think Helton is running the team the way it should be. Discipline and accountability on the coaches and players. O line could be mysterious, but wait and see. Thank you.

      • I totally agree, I just don’t think Clay Helton is a better coach then David Shaw or Chris Petersen, he just has better players

        • I agree that HE isn’t better. However, the great CEO’s assemble a team of more specialized executives who are smarter than the CEO. I don’t know enough about Helton’s underlying confidence to do that.

    • But a very experienced quarterback and that means everything in college football.

  6. Nobody has to worry about unseating ucla. Nobody wants to be in their crappy position, the same one they always end up with, the underachiever, lucky to make a bowl game spot.

Everybody wants to play ucla. It’s a for sure win-booster.

    • totally incongruent with post….some Bruins must’ve really done a number on you and or family! you got as bad a case of Bruin-itis as i’ve ever seen. time to face facts!

      #ISeeBruins

      • You’re the one that’s always over here baying on a USC site roid boy. You wouldn’t catch me on some crappy little gutty site looking for attention like you are here. Hah, hah, hah.

Your football team stinks and we all know it. Deal with it wimp. USC owns little ucla. Can’t wait to see SC smash your underachieving little gutties in Nov. The only question is will poor Rosen still be upright by then. Hope so. Last time he played us, he tanked like a typical bruin.

          • I don’t know her actually (duh!) but I always figured she’s laughing at massive ucla wussiness. Hah, hah, hah. Just like me.

My wife actually picked her out and we’ve been laughing at you ucla Trolls ever since. She too gets a big kick out of all you loser ucla vagrants. She can’t wait to watch big dog USC kick your teeth in as usual at the Coliseum on Nov 18. I know you can’t stand hearing about it. Too bad. Bend over little gutty. The train is coming.

          • that’s your WIFE?? no WONDER your always so pissy!!

            #IKnewItFinallyConfirmed

      • USC will do to ugly that Rowdy Roddy Piper did to you Brute. Pain, Total emotional and physical pain.

        • i can’t speak ill against Rowdy Roddy. i fact i just bought a case of Rowdy Roddy’s “All Outta Bubble Gum” soda pop.

  7. Scotty, your article mentions the press has got it WRONG 8 of the last 10 yrs they tried to predict the Pac 12 champeen!!

    my prediction? PAAAAAAAAAIN!

    #ForTroxies

    • Go ahead roid boy – predict a ucla victory in November over mighty USC. Come on, you can do it. Make a fool of yourself.

Sorry. We got you in the bag wimp. Beating ucla is easy money for the Trojans. Even SW knows that, though it breaks his heart.

USC beats wimpy ucla by at least 20. Again.

        • Just as I thought. Wimpy roid boy bends over and refuses to predict a little gutty victory. Hah, hah, hah. Typical cowering bruin. Hah, hah, hah.

          • love the forced laugh….you’re too easy, Trranny Jackie.

how ’bout some ancient stats now??

          • Still no prediction of a little gutty victory by the roid boy. Hah, hah, hah. A wimp to the very end. Hah, hah, hah. Just another little gutty bending over on Inside USC. Keep it coming roid boy.

48-31-7. My favorite USC over ucla stat. Oh, and 50-0. Yah baby.

    • I sincerely doubt Helton and staff will allow this team to be overconfident.

We aren’t that far from being removed from a totally crap team, which is what we were when we played Stanford in Palo Alto last year. We were horrible not that long ago.

Plus, our leaders, Sam Darnold and Cameron Smith, are both experienced, humble, hard-working, blue collar-types. We’re solid as heck there. And the team talks and works like it’s on a mission because probation if finally over and we can now expect to live up to normal USC expectations.

I just don’t see USC as having a cockiness problem. Leave that issue to some of us Inside USC posters, like me, who enjoy pummeling the stray little gutties in public.

But in private, I’m conservative and supportive while recognizing this current regime still has an awful lot to prove – especially now that we have a big target on our back again.

  8. And so the SUCLA put-downs of SC have been accelerated. And it’s only July!
Don’t the SUCLAs get it that their insults have the same effect on SC as 2 flies on a rhino’s back?

  9. You can pick on a number of reasons how USC can lose a conference game this season. Mistakes, injuries, bad officiating or just having a bad game where nothing works. But I think our good friend, Larry Scott, has probably put the Trojans into a situation with 2-straight Friday night games, at Cal then to Washington St. for the trap and no bye weeks during the season. Hey Larry, whose side are you on?

  10. Unfortunately, the Pac 12 has the longest drought of all major conferences for a national championship in football

    • Pitiful ucla hasn’t split one since 1954, long before most here were born. What is wrong with you crappy bruins? You never do diddly in football.

Thank God USC is in the Pac-12 to win a football NC every once in awhile. Probation took USC off the NC hunt for awhile, but now the Trojans are back and in the running again. ucla still reeks as usual.
