USC Morning Buzz: Andy Enfield Offers A 7-Year-Old

Let’s see, Pac-12 media days just concluded and football opens training camp Saturday. But instead, Andy Enfield just set a new low by offering a scholarship to the 7-year-old brother of Marvin Bagley, according to Bagley’s father.

It’s viewed as a masterstroke in the incapable-of-shame world of college basketball punditry. And I’m sure USC fans think anything goes in the pursuit of Marvin Bagley. But a 7-year-old? Where will Enfield even be in 11 years? Still lifting logs with a smile on his face?

Remember when Pat Haden offered the sister of defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes a basketball scholarship? How did that work out?

  1. ugh, the writer is so right cuz every things has to be taking so seriuosly! smdh!

  2. Big deal. So what. Who cares? Bagley’s either coming or he’s not and his younger bro will have nothing to do with it.

Fortunately, our competition is thousands of miles away from his home. Good luck Trojans!

    • Yep – and it’s tough to be too hard on Andy these days – he (and Hart/Bland) are killing it in recruiting – an excellent mix of top recruits and guys who stick around a few years. Love where we’re sitting. But Scottie has to have an angle, so sure, go off on an “offer” which, of course, is unenforceable on either end at this point.

      • SW is a very unsophisticated beat writer.

He doesn’t really understand a lot of the gamesmanship and nuances of recruiting. Even though it may seem senseless, it’s not. As they say, he never played the game, not as an athlete, coach, or unbiased observer. Ironically, he’s always been the jealous outsider. Strange, but it always shows in his coverage.

Enfield has done a great job at USC. I’m so glad he’s starting to see some success, both on the court and in recruiting. Really happy ucla is stuck with Alford, while we have Enfield. I really think if Enfield were at ucla, with their tradition and clout in hoops, the bruins would be killing it. But we got him and we also have the best college team in L.A. now.

        • Those are some awfully rose colored glasses. Enfield’s tenure at USC will be judged after this year, with the conference down and with an experienced, talented roster. Either a PAC-12 conference title or Elite 8 NCAA appearance should be his expectation. Anything less and USC should be in the market for a new coach.

          • Ya, right. Try thinking before you post for a change.

USC has no hoops tradition outside of pure mediocrity. What, two Sweet Sixteen appearances in the last 40 years or so. Just a few conference titles and some decent NBA players. Not much. For you to say that based on where USC’s sudden high expectations are, Enfield should be unloaded without an Elite 8 appearance, is just idiotic.

My point stands. Enfield is doing something with nothing at one the the nation’s elite football factories. Alford is doing nothing with something and a program kids dream of playing for all their lives – like USC football.

Hopefully, Enfield stays at USC for a long time. Hopefully, Alford does the same at ucla and always underachieves, as he has continually done with the bruins, and always will.

          • I wonder, do you think alford and mora go to the same coaching seminars together. The way they both underachieve is uncanny. Hope they stay forever crosstown.

          • Couldn’t agree more. Helton and Enfield are light years better than The Chimp and Alford. They go together perfectly at ucla and neither will achieve anything noteworthy but are still entrenched enough to hold onto their jobs.

          • This comment is so pathetically stupid, that I am convinced Rents is behind this. SC has had 1 conference title, and 1 elite eight appearance in 40+ years, but if they don’t get both this year, fire Enfield and start all over. I am convinced you voted for Hillary!

          • There’s no doubt about it Phil, your description of the bozo basketball program is totally pathetic.

  3. Andyain’twinning SUCC’s up to the 7 year old brother of Marvin Bagley. In fact, Andyain’twinning also offered the grandchildren of the little brother to beg Marvin to play basketball at bozo u.

    Hopa, Choka, Excuses.

Andyain’twinning/bozo u’s basketball program stoops to cheap TV comedy.

    • I’ve tried putting this post through google translate and it just said “incomprehensible.”

      • Wow, a bozo Rah-Rah rattles off a 6 syllable word in response to my comment he claims he doesn’t understand.

I guess if there are enough worms on a hook Mr. Fan is guaranteed to hit it.

  4. Play along on the little stuff, Scooter……it leads to treasure

  5. Hey Scott since you brought it up – what exactly is Haden doing these days? Where does he work? Is he paid? Did he pay back the Mayr Foundation?

  6. Flow – I’m pretty sure you couldn’t hold your own when lifting that log. Or maybe you’ve turned it around this off-season…

  7. When my older brother played Pop Warner football, JK McKay played on another team. His dad would come out and watch the games st Cortez park in West Covina.
My parents were USC alums and recognised him. After a game in which my brother played his heart out. Mom and dad introduced him to the USC coach. McKay told him to keep playing hard and someday he’d play at USC.
That’s the way I view this offer. Unless papers are signed I don’t see a future for a 7 year old at this time.

    • That’s not the point. Andyain’twinning offered Bagley’s 7 year old brother as an inducement for Bag’s basketball services. What an immature recruiting approach.

Will Andyain’twinning also buy the kid a pony if Bags signs with bozo u?

      • You have a point. I wonder if the NCAA sees it your way as in impermissible benefits. College sports is so business orientated these watch for an investigation.

      • Seriously. Doesn’t Andy know that you offer dad a job, not a schollie to baby bro.

        • Maybe he should go the Sam Gilbert route, and bribe players, supply drugs and pay for abortions!

          • The only thing your comment proves is your peacock display of moronic intellect.

  8. She’s on scholarship at San Diego State. She was pretty solid her senior year, averaging 18 ppg and 9 rpg. She didnt play much as a freshman but that’s not a shock in women’s basketball.

I wish her the best. Hopefully she’ll be recognized as a student-athlete rather than a punch line. She deserves better than this blog treats her.

Interesting non-sequitur. What does the second sentence have to do with the first?

Missing: Any actual reporting. When was the last time Wolf had an actual scoop, or an important piece of information?

He’s devoted far more coverage to EJ Price, an irrelevant freshman transferring to Kentucky, than he has on potentially the biggest recruiting story in USC basketball history. Nice judgment!
