So Los Angeles officially is getting the 2028 Olympics. Great. Can’t wait to see Dedeaux Field turned into a swim stadium. But who really cares, it’s 11 years down the road. Or the same time that Marvin Bagley’s 7-year-old brother will enroll at USC.

  1. I would love to see Dedeaux Field moved permanently….not sure where on campus but if I were working the rises and falls and changes and futures, Dedeaux would be reborn…..

    • There is no open land left anywhere on the original campus to have a baseball field – none. I was hoping that new soccer field could be designed for multi-use – baseball and soccer.

The university does own land just east of the 110 but I doubt anything will come of that – believe me there is nothing left open for a build

      • They said that back in the 70s and 80s but look how far the school has come….USC is as good a school as there is in America at reinventing campus….with space issues and soaring costs, the administrators and board have been spectacular at it…..a real pleasure to see the advancement through the years….fight on…..

        • Ok but where? Not on the downtown home campus no way = as I said i would love for them to work out a deal with the soccer field and put it there

          • I don’t have the chess board in front of me, but if they let me in the room for a bit? Lol….old dorms, old classes, parking structures, etc that can be moved to the current baseball site and Dedeaux refitted in the demolished /vacated spot….the corner of Jefferson and Fig….caddy to Felix and across from Galen for example or somewhere else near the new UV

          • Forget Figueroa Street and Jefferson Blvd. Felix Chevrolet (Fig and Jeff – NE corner) is owned by USC, ‘but’ it also has been designated as a LA Landmark by the Historical Society. NW corner – that is a brand new 6 story apartment dorm. Maybe joust outside the new University Village (Jeferson to 30th and Orchard to McClintock)

          • Mow down Cardinal Gardens? It needed that years ago, frankly…build new student housing on campus where Dedeaux is and put Dedeaux on the northwest corner of Jefferson and Mclintock….perfect neighbor for UV

        • I’m USC, Class of 1974 and wholeheartedly agree. USC’s expansion is well designed and impressive.

      • Alvarado, I finally disagree with you. Soccer is a waste of space, time, and effort. Watching grass grow or watching paint dry is more exciting than soccer. Don’t include soccer.

        • Well like it or not ‘pa-sah-duh-nah’ that’s what is being built where the old Sports Arena once stood – a new soccer stadium

          • Yes, and they took away great parking and the old sports arena to build something that only 1,000 will attend. They could have built that thing next to the Home Depot field. Wasteful.

          • Well you must be >60 years of age I say that kindly as I am a school teacher and believe you me soccer is ramping up fast regardless of one’s affinity towards it. I am with you it’s even more boring than watching golf ‘but’ it is massively popular to play esp. for 3rd world nations as all one needs is a ‘ball’ and that’s it.

Sad to slowly watch baseball diamonds either be converted to soccer fields or worst not even laid out in future parks etc..

    • So much for the tradition of USC baseball. 12 National Championships apparently mean nothing.

      • Let’s all give due to the architect of this lost opportunity – Pat ‘Capper’ Haden after all isn’t he the one who is re-designing the Coliseum? Couldn’t he had some impact on the new soccer field as to it’s use and design?

Where oh where is Capper these days? Nothing since a year ago June – man Nikias sure let Pofirato have it with both barrels but nothing ever seemed to blow back on Haden after the expose of his benefiting personally a la Mayr Foundation.

  2. Scooter by that time you might be replaced with a better journalist. just in time for the Olympics.

  3. 11 years?

Since I almost died, should have died, on August 28, 2010 when a small piece of meat got caught in my wind pipe and without any help from me became dislodged about 2 minutes after I stopped breathing, I don’t take time lightly.

11 years? I treat life in 11 second cycles.

    • Have you learned to do the Heimlich Maneuver since then? You can use a chair if you are alone.

  4. Hey wait, 2028 is the year that Bagley’s little brother signs his bozo u /Andyain’twinning basketball offer LOI.
