The Ohio State . . . National Champs?

Collin Cowherd says Ohio State will win the national title and that USC is a top 4 team. Cowherd says Ohio State’s defensive line is a strength and USC’s offensive line is its weakness. I wonder who told him to think that? Clay Helton or Cowherd’s South Bay media buddies?

  1. My guess is that all of this just might have something to do with the Greg Schiano quote listed right below his head and the Coaches’ Poll voting Ohio St. #2 and SC #4. This is only slightly less bold than your prediction that SC would be in trouble if Sam Darnold was knocked out for the season.

Way to stay bitter about somebody else’s address.

  2. The revamped USC offensive line is untested, but we won’t know if it’s a weakness until a few games into the season

  3. Urban Meyer fell *ss backwards into a program that was ready to rock and already rocking. They had top of the Big 10 talent already. They won before him. He didn’t build them up. He just jumped in the driver’s seat when everyone looked away. He didn’t drive. He’s a damn good coach but the keys to OSU were a sports car. The lawn manicured, even found leftover copper that the old tennants ripped out and never turned in.

I want USC vs. Ohio State!

    • USC would blow them out.. I have gone to 3 practices..and know a bit about football..this OLINE is fast, athletic and HUGE.. They will be ok!

      • That would be great. SC has been fat and slow on the o-line for so long now, at least in part due to the sanctions and also because STAN took the best guys. Hope this relatively new OL coach is better at evaluating athleticism. He seems to be, I think, based on whom he is targeting.

        • I agree.. I chatted with their recruiting coordinator for about 30 minutes on saturday.. He said Dan, kids want in, like the old days…they are calling for visits and the line is long.. USC can now pick and choose who they want. But the kids first choice is USC over other Calif schools..

          • Good to hear we’ve really got it rolling again, like only USC can in the west. Seems like old times.

Can’t wait for the STAN and TEXAS games. Big wins against that talent will set the tone for what is to come.

    • How can you seriously think Meyer isn’t the second best coach in the country. You can’t watch too much football because Ohio State was 6-7 the year before he got there. They were a mess at every position and he took them to a 12-0 season. They didn’t win before him. He didn’t “jump in the drivers seat”. He has to build the car from scratch

      • I agree 100% – Tressel was an insecure soul and it showed when he told that big fib and got sacked for it.

      • The team was a mess. But the talent was there. He is an expert at recognizing the hidden talent. He has made a career out of it. Then, when you turn a program like that around the kids line up to commit. That model has worked very well for him.

    • Sas you really and truly believe that? Look I think Urban Meyer is out for only Urban Meyer but man say what they will everywhere the guy has coached he has won – UT, FL and now OH St. He’s a great coach and it takes a great coach to win because good talent wont do it even great talent won;t w.o. that great coach.

      • No questioning that he’s won. Built things. But to go to Florida when you inherit the #1 recruiting class with Chris Leak and #1 WR (I forget his name, that wss also another stop where he walked up to a Program with 5* talent everywhere. Let’s remember that at Utah you can win as the underdog. He did it and now the other man is doing there. But he never built up Florida or Ohio State. Both programs were left with 5* kids by coaches who could recruit, but not win.

        • Think what you want the guy winds wherever he goes he really does as to those who couldn’t coach blame that on the clueless AD (Haden?) a winner takes what he has and delivers – OH St. is back and up and running – loath their fan base but they are good because of Meyer. Not so sure about Harbaugh and MI – great coach but clueless when it comes to ‘letting go’ – it’s the reason SFO let him go and I believe the same will happen, in time, in Ann Arbor.

          • And that is why I was very happy when his name came up when rumors said USC would hire a coach who already won a NC. He can coach

          • Who? Harbaugh or Myer? If the former – screw him…if the latter – yeah a prove owner and admittedly an egomaniac but again a winner

          • You know me. And well. I wanted John Harbaugh. I carried that flag. Then he turned us down. Supposedly. But there was mention of a guy who has ring(s). Urban. I respect his coaching. But to me Pete is the best after Bill Belichik. Pete did it on both levels and is dominant on both. That’s what really itches I guess.

          • Well Belichik (bellicheat) replaced Pete Carroll and Meyer prudently understands, for his skill set, it’s a lot easier dealing with college players than NFL players a lesson Nick Sabin found out the hard way and seemingly the same with Steve Spurrier, Chip Kelley and Jim Harbaugh.

Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer and Pete Carroll are the sole three that have won both a college ‘NC’ and a Super Bowl and Pete’s climb was the toughest. Then again PC left us in the lurch – he truly truly did – when he booked after 2010. All he had to do was wait one year and see the pro-AL, notre dame and the rest cabal that loathed USC – PC wouldn’t do it.

          • I dissagree completely that I is easier to deal with college instead of pro players. It’s the opposite. In the pros you can cut a player if you want to for whatever reason. Not the same in college. In the pros most of these guys are mature and have families. College kids still go to parties till 3am the day before a practice. Yes some NFL players do that too but certainty not a lot and if they do, you can cut them. I agree with about everything you said though

          • There are 49 SB winning HC’s that never called an Int within a half-a-yard of a SB victory like Little Petey.

And just for the record Sambo, Meyer never choked and lost a NC CFB game with a 12 point lead and 10 minutes to go.

    • Wish he had fallen into our program instead of Kiffin. Imagine how many national championships we would have now…

    • If you look at his history he always does that. Utah and Florida were the same ways. He tends to leave when there is trouble on the horizon.

      • Thank you buddy!!!!
Ron Zook left Blue Chips all over the Gators and the rest is history. But Meter bailed on Florida because he was looking the other way players made the program look bad and it got to him and he left.

    • bozo u needs to Alabama first.

bozo u FB reminds me of a fat, tomato can, drunk screaming for Heavyweight Championship bout.

        • ucla hasn’t played in a heavyweight game in so long, they don’t even aspire to it. Winning such a game isn’t even a possibility for ucla. All they’re hoping for is that Rosen survives to play SC in November – which is ironic because the last time we played Rosen, SC abused him mercilessly.

Go Aggies. Take it to the bruins just like you did last year.

  4. Scott why don’t you make a prediction instead of being snarky about everybody else’s predictions. Try to find some time in between snapping pics at Trader Joe’s.

      • As usual you miss the point. Go back to your Fox News and find some more scary liberals.
        #blinders

        • The point is you cowardly libs are great at telling others how to live their lives while you can’t live up to your own advice. Go back to your Clinton News Network Fake News. #twerp.

          • Yes the incredible open right wing conservatives who never tell anybody how to live as long as your white Christian conservative

          • You mean the leftist kooks like you who tell USC men that they have to tape their dates or else they will get accused of sexual assault and get booted from school?
            #stupidwarrior

          • Your right. The world is a scary place. There was never a problem with rape on campus it was plan hatched by Obama to take power from the white man. Grab your bible and head for basement.

          • Why are you leftist kooks such racists? You must have majored in Grievance Studies at Cal State Bakersfield.
            #racistwarrior

          • The funny thing is you think I’m a democrat but the world is not black and white. The biggest problem with the world today is most of the noise is made by the kooks on far right and left and the media $upporting it. CNN and FOX news sell advertising and need kooks to buy the lemonade . My guess is your over 70 and watch 3 plus hours of FOX news a day. Enjoy the drug and home security ads.

          • The funny thing is so many of you Democrats are ashamed to admit it. But when your stupid policies end up costing USC its Rose Bowl hero field goal kicker and with Hillary being a criminal who cheated Bernie Sanders out of the nomination I can see why you talk big and then slink into your hole when cornered. I’d be ashamed too if I was you.
            #racistwarrior

          • Right if somebody does not agree with you they are a Democrat. There are only 2 types of people in this world Democrats and Republicans. Makes life so simple.

          • With you libs you can never know anything and yet you are the most judgemental people there are.

  5. I purchased a few items online and Gavin gave me a few hats for the family.. It looks like we are a year away from really being at full strength, the depth is a non issue now.. The kids just need to be focused and pull on the same side of the rope.. USC will be in the NC talk all year .

  6. Cowherd talks to more media buddies every day than SW speaks to in a year. Cowherd’s life at the top continues to rankle SW! Hah, hah, hah. Too bad SW.

    • Wolf doesn’t have any media buddies. Just the imaginary ones in the basement.

  7. HAWR-HAWR!!! not even USC-Homer Cowherd can bring himself to call a Natty for the trOXans!!!

and we know that anything less than a Natty will be a HUGE turd in the punch bowl!!

  8. You guys are nuts if you think USC can beat an Ohio State. Worry about beating Utah first. SC’s Oline is BAD and so is their Dline. The cornerback position will be the downfall of the defense that is going to give up a lot of points. But the biggest problem that you are all missing is the fact that USC will have a significant coaching disadvantage in every big game they play. Clay Helton is the same coach who went 1-3 last season. He didn’t get smarter or figure out how to make adjustments he just put in a new QB. Running backs might be the only solid position from top to bottom on this team besides linebackers but that’s only if Carr can make an impact this year.

    • At least we’ve got ucla on our schedule. The bruins are just a gimme-game, barely even a work-out for USC now.

USC will beat ucla by 20 points minimum. And we’re also gonna toast STAN, UTAH, et al. UW will be tough.

You’re not too smart. Even simple-minded USA Today puts you to shame.

      • USC should beat those teams but they won’t beat all of them. Every year there is an upset. At Norte Dame will be tough. At Arizona state will be tough. At Colorado won’t be easy.

        • Ya, well if they all just rolled over and lied on their backs, it wouldn’t be much of a game would it? Duh.

Underachieving ASU has mediocre talent and coaching, as usual. CU lost their big-time DC to ORE. Huge loss. CU has never beaten USC in the history of mankind. Wow. We’re suddenly scared now that we have our best team since the Carroll days.

You really don’t know much about SC, obviously. Our OL and DL are not bad as you say. Stupid statement. Go ahead and say some other silly crap.

          • Our offensive and defensive lines aren’t great. And look back even in the Pete days at the upset losses we had. We lost in Oregon state 3 times in a row and we had national championship teams. I know more about USC then you forgot. Our team last year was more talented than our team this year. Adoree and Ju Ju lost and this team is more talented?

          • Try to keep up idiot. You said both USC’s OL and DL were BAD. Now you’re already backtracking big-time and saying they aren’t great. You don’t even understand the difference between great and bad. Duh.

Hope you shoot off your mouth again when ASU and CU take SC to town. Ya, right. Everybody already knows any team can lose to a conference foe or rival on any given day.

Earth to Kevin. Neither CLEM nor ALA went undefeated last season and they still finished #1 and #2. Get some sleep. As fryer tuck says to you, blah, blah, blah. Take some anti-depressants before you start raving about how Zona’s gonna beat us at home.

          • Refresh my memory please, how many points did tOSU score in their last game. That great coach and offense drew a goose egg. Kevin lives in a little fantasy world.

    • I think a lot of us are wary of just how skilled is Helton and I really believe we won’t know until either USC begins losing or Darnhold moves on.

      • Why beacuase I make good pints? You can’t argue anything that I have said. It’s all factual

        • It’s not factual. It’s subjective opinion at best. And your opinion shows your ignorance. The O-Line is a little untested but you are talking about 4 & 5 star players that have over 25 starts. The only weak spot that I can see is Toa at LT. His mobility is not the best. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets replaced by one of the true freshman OT studs. They look ready to go. And regarding Corner play? Jackie Jones can play ball. He is much bigger, stronger and faster than last year. Plus he has a year of experience under his belt.

    • You forgot to tag on the qb and the receivers. If u do, then u have the entire team covered
