USC Morning Buzz: One More Training Camp Observation

I already mentioned six freshmen that have a chance to contribute this season. So here’s another Week 1 observation: USC better not get hurt.

Jack Sears only has one week under his belt so he needs time to develop. Matt Fink’s been inconsistent but that’s not unexpected when you are supposed to be the backup. The bottom line is if Darnold does not play, things change fast. And not in a good way. Is that a criticism? Not really. It just underscores that many things have to go right when you want to win a national title.

  1. Wait, if our starting future All America QB goes down it will have an effect? Que golf clap.

    • Having Browne transfer did have an effect of depth. That’s beyond your ability to comprehend.

  2. Brilliant analysis… clear a spot on the shelf for the Pulitzer! Blogger will soon also tell us location is important in real estate.

    • Yes, there are a lot of places you can go for SC news, but only Wolf comes with the “things get bad if the starting QB goes down” takes. Not many have the courage to go out on a limb and say that losing their best player at he most important position would be bad.

    • Okay, you’ve put a smile on a lot of faces this morning, FightOn. But here are a couple of things worth remembering. Very early on, Scott was pointing out what many missed—-Max Browne didn’t have the goods. Now, he’s [not so subtlely] pointing out that Fink doesn’t have what it takes either. Watch Matt on tape —- he’s another one of those quarterbacks who becomes a liability when used as a weapon rather than game manager. If you read between the lines, all Scott is really saying is USC’s offensive strategy will change radically, rather than get re-calibrated, if we have to go to the bench at quarterback. We ain’t Ohio State during their recent National Championship run —where each replacement at quarterback played better than the guy he replaced.
But everybody relax —Sam is tough enough and wily enough to take us through all 15 games!

          • Yes you are a nice guy. Don’t let Golly Noid and his sock puppets get to you. You add a lot to the board.

This is what he acts like when pretty much everyone is positive we are going to have a great year. You should have seen his disgusting antics during the end of the Pete Carroll Era and the dark Kiffin-Sark years.

          • Thanks for those supportive words. I’m here to stay, g.t. I don’t think anyone could keep things rolling better than Scott does. It would kinda amaze me that Scott gets BLAMED for pointing out nascent problems with players or coaches except for the fact I remember the exact same thing happening to Howard Cosell. Now, most people recognize Howard’s bravely and deliberately non infantile analysis was just ahead of it’s time.

  3. News flash. If O.J. had missed the the ’67 game, USC would have lost. If USC didn’t have Lott, Allen, White, etc., the Trojans would have lost some games they otherwise won. Duh.

This is all about SW trying to cover his tracks, because Darnold’s early picks meant nothing.

Real issue is there is nothing Inside USC about any of SW’s posts. A 7th grader could come up with this stuff.

  4. If sw’s hand gets smashed between the refrigerator doors and he can’t type, ”Inside USC” is over.

  5. “many things have to go right when you want to win a national title”

We have a new Captain Obvious.
