Quick USC Thoughts

OK, I want to repeat something that got botched trying to post with my phone yesterday: It is hard to imagine any teams in USC’s schedule better than the Trojans at quarterback or running back. At the same time, it is still apparent in training camp that USC is not a top four team, with questions still at wide receiver and the secondary. And again, let me now add, kicker.

  1. You could say this about any team in the country. Every team is entering the season with holes to fill. My only concern is kicker both secondary and reciever we have guys with solid experience and great young talent. This defense is going to put pressure on QB and that makes DB’s much better. Plus Darnold plus running game is going to open up passing game. Problem solved.

  2. SW catches a lot of grief from us, but I appreciate his consistent and regular updates (even if I might disagree with them and even if we get the occasional grammar issue). I’ve been reading his blog for over 10 years. I can’t say that for a lot of other news organizations.

    • Agreed. Nothing wrong with Scott slipping a lot of opinion into his analysis. Almost every instructor I had at USC did the same thing twice a week. It’s meant to keep the discussion going —and, judging from the great stuff posted here ever day, it brings out the best in everybody.

    • I agree, too. Flawed as it can be, where else are we getting multiple points raised each day without paying? (Are the pay sites putting up this much content?)

    • This is great place to come to find out problems with program and laugh at UCLA honks.

      • No greater place than here to cut down idiot ucla Trolls.

As far as trojan info goes, the best by far comes from USC fans. SW just regurgitates what I have read elsewhere, or posts about worthless stuff like Baby QBs, school statues, etc.

    • This is USC. People come here because of the USC Trojans and our insanely great athletic and football heritage, not because of SW.

You could have any Tom, John or Harry running the Inside USC blog and we’d all be showing up. Every single one of us.

SW undoubtedly increases the presence of ucla Trolls. Otherwise, he’s more to be laughed at and ridiculed than any type of informational source.

  3. Sure, Flow. Blame it on the phone. How is this different than any other Top 10 trying to replenish their roster? Everyone else seems to think USC is a Top 4 team.

    • Everyone but Wolf. I can’t wait for his first vote on the poll, it is always good for one WTF.

  4. You began it all with questions about the D line. Then it was the O line. Then it was secondary, then you went to WR, after that it was backup QB, and now kicker. What is next, the horse?

  5. I think most of the country would kill for Burnett, Vaughns, Green, Lewis, and Pittman…. They’re playing lights out. I thought JuJu had a very average season last year.

    • Agree completely and you left out Imatorbhebhe. That’s a very strong pool and the elites will emerge. I think Pittman will be one of them.

  6. I wish my team had “questions” at wide receiver like yours does. I think there’s some talent there.

    • Hi UCLA—– Are you referring to us or you when you mention “there’s some talent there”?

    • Ugly will be hurting for receivers. In my opinion, I hi
Onestly think USC has the best receiver fro in the PAC 12, if not the nation. Sc picked up three 5 star recruits two years ago and they plan to play

    • I am a big SC fan but have no real allegiance to the school. I say this because, although I mostly hate UCLA, I do respect the Bruins. Rosen, if his head is on straight, could be dynamite and have a superb year. I think he is very intelligent- per his thoughtful responses while being interviewed by SI, i think- and when you have a talent like him, you always have a good chance to win. The Bruins have talent everywhere but is that enough and can Mora build the right chemistry and team atmosphere to get it done. I will leave the prognosticating to the “experts “. Cheers and thanks for keeping it classy.

  7. You have to put your trust in the coaching staff’s ability to develop the players and put them in the right positions. To call the right plays and the coverage that uses the talent at its best ability. I know I have concerns about Jack Jones as a CB but Biggie made mistakes his first year in starting and grew from it. You can’t blame the coaching staff or the team, Scott Wolf, for the void caused by the administration on ousting a really good kicker who was returning.

    • THAT is the question – can Helton be that coach when that moment occurs this year?

  8. With the exception of Alabama, don’t all teams have question marks in week 2 of fall camp???

      • Abso-fricking-lutely, Pudly! We have as good a chance at going undefeated as Alabama—-better maybe. But everybody has weaknesses this year.

        • I think we have a great chance..I’m hoping our new o-line gets us running and we never look back. Darnold and a powerful running game, deadly.

          • That’s the plan —and we’ll see it practiced against Western Michigan. And tested against Stanford.

          • Should be a very basic run game against WMU, but I am hoping that this is the year we finally stand up to Stanfurd and go toe to toe. Then bring on the horns.

          • I think you’re nearly exactly on the money with regard to the Western Michigan game —-30 to 35 run plays. Let the O-line and the tailbacks loose. But I bet we throw 2 or 3 fifty yard touchdown passes just to show we can do it.

          • Don’t get me wrong, Sam’s a heisman candidate, they’ll get him 300 yds passing.

  9. Scooter, now you have done it. Everyone believed you typed your blog on a Royal 440 typewriter with carbon copies to boot. Pashaw that you type your blog on a phone. What will happen to the typewriter business.

  10. There’s great talent at the receiver position. When you have that kind of talent at a certain position(and a lot of it), the competition will usually cause a few to step up and fulfill their destiny. The secondary should be at least as good as last year. We lost Adoree but that meant we lost a lot of talent not necessarily performance. Don’t forget, Adoree gave up 7 TD’s last year. His best year was his freshman year. As far as our kicking woes…….Thank You USC TitleIX feminazi’s!
