USC QB Sam Darnold did not throw an interception so it’s been seven straight practices without an interception. He started camp with five interceptions in the first three practices.
“It pissed me off as much as it would anyone,” Darnold said.

If it wasn’t for Adoree Jackson and Marvell Tell both simultaneously stopping and thinking the other would make the play Ucla wouldn’t have had that lucky play. You know it. You would be crazy to make that deal and you would have to resign as GM. Tee Martin is fire with recruiting. He’s young as a Playcaller in only his second year so that’s different. At offensive tackle we’ll be waiting to see if Edoga and the other starter have what it takes. I think they’ll play well, but I’m still nervous. WR? We’re more than good there. Playmakers everywhere. I’m not trying to brag but we have Tyler Vaughns and Michael Pittman entering the fold now as every day players. Then true freshmen Joseph Lewis is out playing the others in practice. Those three were all 5-Star WR’s and Darnold finds his receivers more any SC QB that I can remember. Also, Harbaugh definitely carries his weight but he has pieces in place at Michigan to play the way they do. Ucla is not the same system, or…..at least not right now they’re not. They’re OC might have a hard time executing at UCLA because Michigan had an O-line and it’s the reason they’re QB looked good when he’s really average.
You have some good points. But as an OC isn’t your job to evaluate? If Tee was such a great OC wouldn’t he have also realized the talent in Darnold and name him a starter day 1? How did both HC and OC blatantly miss this? This is what is holding your program back. You think Pete would have waited til game three to realize this talent and wait til his job was on the line to make a move out if desperation?

Easy, peazy, Helton not only has my confidence he has, more importantly, that of his players and asst. coaches. His players have faith in him and go the extra mile, showing in the fourth quarter of the Rose Bowl. Impish silly ruins will point to Darnold, saying he was the reason, but as any educated football fan knows, Sam had no chance if the defense doesn’t step up and shut them out. Not just shut them out but without their best players, Cam and Adoree. Complete buy in. mora on the other hand has them leaving early for the fourth or fifth round of the draft.

Tee was the one that told Helton that Darnold was the starter and that he just makes the team move the chains. He was never disrespectful to Max Brown about it, but Tee Martin was very blunt during interviews. I have to admit that I thought Max would lose to Bama but get us on track right away+beat Stanford+win the Confrence and go pro+especially after Darnold came out and said he wasn’t transferring and would support Max and the team. And i knew Darnold was better. The was a big part of that thought Max could lead since he was the Gatorade POT, etc. I was wrong. Smh….I never thought Max would be so bad. I think Helton also felt that way. Lesson learned for me. I always said best man plays, except there and the rest is history. Martin was definitely on point with his approval on Sam.
Face it. Helton blew it. It’s his job to make personnel evals and everyone except him knew Darnold was much better based on practices, including most the players, especially the vets who knew more about Browne’s limitations.
Helton desperately wanted Browne to stay so he started him, which while understandable, almost sunk the entire program in the process.
That said, Swann encouraged the Darnold switch immed after the Stanford debacle and Helton looked smarter every day since. I think Helton learned some very valuable lessons last year’s horrendous start and I’m convinced he’s the man for the job now. He’s made some very strong moves. Plus, he owns The Chimp, which may not be saying much, but I’ll take it.
