          • There was also talk that SC was a smokescreen and that he has been UCLA’s all along. I haven’t really followed it that closely, believe it or not. i remember Bruins getting smoked on Juju supposedly coming to Westwood. LOL

I’m not a Steve Alford fan. He hasn’t shown me much to date. And while Enfield has improved SC, he hasn’t yet shown he can take your team to the next level. We will see. It’s only one player.

          • I follow football recruiting closely, have some very good connections, and JuJu was never supposedly going to ucla. Sorry. That just wasn’t ever even close to happening.

USC was always JuJu’s “dream school” and childhood fave, a very common attachment for Poly kids.

The only school which really threatened USC for JuJu was ORE (he actually pump-faked their hat at his announcement). ND and ucla were just fake news as far as JuJu was always concerned.

          • Exactly. I wasn’t one of those guys that was ever buying the idea that we had a real shot at Juju, Adoree or Jack Jones. But there were some.

It’s likely that Bagley wasn’t all that serious about SC. I’m guessing Duke. Coach K, or Enfield/Alford. Which would you choose?

          • Were I Bagley, I’d go to DUKE. Best program by far and you’re coached by a true modern day legend – a rarity. Plus, totally amazing university and student support, neither of which is great at USC (pure football school, very poor attendance) and ucla (mediocre coach, stalemated program, not headed for a good season IMHO).

          • Again, exactly. Bagley wants to get to the NBA. Is he better off with Coach K or with Andy Enfield? My guess is that he is headed to Durham.

          • Even if Bagley wanted to go to USC, the Trojans don’t have room! That’s unless not a person on this board knows how to count to 15.

All these suggestions that USC can somehow magically produce a scholarship go unexplained.

I think if USC had room, they’d have a real good shot because Enfield has generated serious buzz and USC will have their best team in quite some time.

But not one person has explained how USC fits Bagley in with no rides left and basketball recruiting is so poorly covered, nobody has even come close to explaining why USC is still in it even through we have no room in our program.

I suppose USC might have room somehow but it’s all a big secret how. It’s always possible I guess that USC has given some player the shaft and kept it all a big secret. Not sure how that is possible in today’s world, but since nobody who even seriously follows SC has any answers, I guess ignorance is bliss.

          • Either way, if I was advising the kid, I’d say Duke. It’s the smart career choice, IMO.

          • 88, when Enfield took over, the program was in a shambles and he is getting the talent. Now, I agree that he hasn’t shown much, but with talent, expectations and results should rise

          • I agree with that 100%. There simply are only a few guys that know how to coach talent and mold it into a team. Is Enfield a guy that can mold talented egos?

Guy Lewis at Houston had great talent and could never get over the hump, even against an overmatched NC State team. Terry Holland at Virginia never knew how to use Ralph Sampson properly.

          • Thank you. I was having this same discussion with some kid at inside ucla. Bagley is a Nike fanatic to say the least and that was a legit reason I thought Ucla wouldn’t be his choice. As a Basketball school they took a step back into the discount area with Under Armour. It was bad enough they wore Adidas, but Now they’ll be be wearing the worst basketball shoes. Quantity is more important that quality to them.

        • Off the top of my head Sammy, Bags would be a better fit at UCLA.

          1) SC returns a vet team that has played together for a couple of years. Will Boatwright and Metu want to share the ball with Bags, to the detriment of their own game and NBA Draft status.

          2) Rarely do Freshman 5 star phenoms start and lead veteran teams to Championships.

          3) If Bags should chose Bozo u, can Andyain’twinning manage a team with too many chiefs and not enough indians.

          4) bozo u has a better chance to win the Pac-12 Championship as it is now constituted. Integrating a one & done 5 star square into a veteran team circle is counter productive.

          .

          • Well Owns, you may have won this round. I don’t think we found him a scholarship. If we did we would have heard something by now.

          • Ride availability is an obvious open and shut case.

How do programs just suddenly find scholarships lying around? They’re either taken or they’re not and this was known by USC months ago.

What, did SC just expect some lesser guy to quit and give up his ride for one-year Bagley?

Sure seems like deficient reporting over many months. Don’t big hoops enthusiasts ask these basic questions on reputable message boards and get any answers? Bizarre.

          • At first there were people assuming that Aaron could be asked to move out since he wasn’t happy and even looked at his draft status, but they worked it out with him. The boards all had the same idea. Aaron would have to go. But we keep forgetting that Bagley was being recruited for the 2018 Class and we only had one player leave from graduation in Charles Buggs, no players left early for the NBA Draft. Too bad Enfield and Helton didn’t have some kind of special coaching friendship where we could borrow a football scholarship and give our bball ride in return? I can only dream of such a situation. He may end up at Duke still.

          • Just bad luck for SC – maybe.

There’s absolutely no guarantee Bagley was headed to USC any way and many months ago I said it would never happen. Wish I were wrong but it looks like I guessed right.

When the chips are down, programs like DUKE and ucla have all the clout. Just like USC in football, when we obliterate people and reel in 5-6 contested national hotshots on the final day – every single year.

Hope he goes to DUKE. Problem is, Bagley would really help ucla. Somehow I see USC having to live with that. Go Blue Devils!

      • Wait you sit on a USC site squawking every 10 minutes like a bratty 7 year old and your calling out USC fans.
        #reflect #isitme #loserville

  1. Old news. Already reported by USC readers on this board. Nothing new about that.

And SW doesn’t have the faintest clue about what will happen. Nothing new about that either.

    • Well Jack my good friend. I wish I could say Bagley was gonna be a Trojan, and he could very well surprise the basketball world with a commitment to SC. He’s putting a Trojan hat on in my opinion If…..If…and it’s a mystery to us all, but Bagley is ours if we found a scholarship for him. We haven’t heard anything on that matter and that’s the only thing IMO that will keep us from pulling this off.

      • It sounds pretty bleak, huh. USC would have to somehow ditch a player on a ride. I’d call that about as big a road block as one could imagine. Rides just don’t suddenly appear. It’s called mathematics.

You can’t do that to players.

There must be some talk about where he’s going. What’s the word? In football, there’s massive info leaks. Where is Bagley rumored headed? Don’t hoops recruiting pundits make predictions, like in football? Maybe the slience is deafening for USC.

        • Jack, the last 4 months of his recruitment the whispers have all been USC is the team to watch for, or the upset team, or was getting picks for Bagley along the way. In these last few months the only team that has challenged our efforts for Bagley was Duke. And when Bagley’s younger brother who’s now a sophomore at Serra gave Marvin his opinion on USC and his approval that took it up a notch. And I get we’ve never been in this kind of race before, but Enfield and his Coaching staff totally took over in his recruitment, but that was with him in mind being in the 2018 Class. His reclassification was kick to the head, at first it was great because it meant he would be playing now, but yeah this Scholarship thing came up and it’s still hear. That doesn’t sound good for us. The guys on the USC sites couldn’t draw up any thoughts on how SC to come up with one.
Back to your question on the experts predicting….Yeah, normally they would have there minds made up right now being the night before his commitment. Duke is Duke so they had a lot of the picks but it should be noted that USC was getting them and then the issue of a scholarship was the what these experts all said gave Duke the edge. They have one, we dont. That said….The Bruins are riding the lanes we paved for him now because the talk is he doesn’t want to leave the area so ENTER STEVE ALTURD. It’s a real shame that Bagley may fall in his lap. Damn shame.

          • If USC doesn’t have space, what are they messing around with Bagley any more for?

You’d think certain basics would have been totally answered by at least a couple of recruiting sites. Sounds like the sites like stringing people along ($) rather than reporting discoverable facts.

Too bad for USC here. Went from possibly signing the first #1 recruit in the history of the program to probably losing him to ucla. Who’s the screenwriter here? You can’t make this stuff up.

          • I can only imagine them running around trying to find a way, but at the same time they had to stay on him just in case he wasn’t cleared to reclassify and had to wait until next season as it was originally planned out. Actually, I hate to say this about SC but the info on Basketball is really weak and lacking the attention. It’s picking up now the year and especially the last few months, but USC needs to get it together with covering BBall recruiting.
I’m confident that if he’s a Bruin he’ll play well for sure but Steve Alford won’t know what to do as always when March rolls around. So if anything you should feel bad for Bagley.

          • I’m sure Enfield knows the ins-and-outs of ride availability and would need no time to conclude what his numbers were. You don’t just run around and find a way. There is no way when your rides are all taken up unless you strip somebody.

Has he even been reclassified yet? It just stuns me that here we are at the night before his commitment and nobody knows anything, even about these other really crucial matters. It’s like Caveman Reporting.

Bottom line is, if the bruins nail him, it’s a gigantic pie in the face for USC hoops. This isn’t about Alford. It’s about ucla once again, like magic, outrecruiting USC in hoops for a major talent. That’s the power of ucla hoops tradition.

          • Sammy, surprise, surprise, UCLA has a an available 2018 BB Scholarship for Bags.

Don’t you love it Sammy when a UCLA plan comes together so perfectly.

          • Bagley will be as advertised but he should look exactly at what he see’s in front of him at Ucla. It’s a Coach who has the luxury of top players at his disposal. That door may be closing by the way as USC can only go up, but he had……

***** The best point guard in college bball, #2 Draft Pick in the NBA Draft. (5-Star)
*****A Power Forward that was #18 Pick in the NBA Draft, who might of been the best big man offensively in the West. (5-Star)
******Thomas Welsh who was as solid as they come for a Center and can hit any jumper around the paint. (High 4-Star)
****** Holiday being the best 6th man or at least we thought that.
******Ucla was the #1 offensive team in the nation.

Let’s see here???? Ummmm……In the tournament you need a good PG, scoring and rebound down low. Those were the guys and you choked. Don’t give me no B.S. about Kentucky being the better team because they’re coach is almost on the verge of being labeled “overrated”

            Owns,
Lonzo Ball is a damn good player but he got outplayed in that game in the end. So did Welsh and Leaf. Why????????
Because you have a JV Basketball minded “let’s run” no defense today as the coach of UCLA. It showed in that game didn’t it.

⬆️That all means Bagley will get tripped up somehow by Alford and his inability to coach in tough games.

          • because he obviously knows more than we do. if he commits, bagley will have a scholarship, believe that…

          • So the rumors of USC being short on scholarships has been bogus all along?

And not one recruiting site or blog follower could add up the numbers? Very interesting.

          • On this blog over the past few weeks I have read multiple people stating that to get Bagley, we would have to yank a scholarship from a current team member. If those comments are true, then, by definition, Enfield has no openings.

          • That’s what I’ve been saying all along. I don’t think Enfield would do it. And if he did, he’ll pay big-time in the L.A. media.

      • Just leaked!!!!
Bagley committed along time ago!!!!! This is all theatrics!!!!
We shall find out how the scholi plays out!!!

        • I really hope he does Andy because it’s on my mind at every stop today. That’s great news and i hope it’s the ending we want tonight with Bagley telling Scott Van Pelt that USC is winning it all! Andy the silence the last few weeks has me on pins and needles. Bare with me guys and get pi$$ed at me for feeling this way BUT!!!…..I think I would trade USC in the CFB Playoffs this one time for Marvin Bagley to play at USC. He’s a rare talent. We keep hearing he’s good enough to be the #1 pick in the upcoming draft and the next if he had to wait. The guys coming back are the best group we’ve had since the 2000 team and if you add Derriyck Thorton, Charles O’Bannon Jr., Jordan Usher, Victor U we have a better team than 2000 because we have depth and the guys coming off the bench are a year in and played big minutes last season. That’s a dangerous team right there but if you add Marvin Bagley III to that squad then you now have what it takes to be a championship team. Basketball is always on the struggle and keeping Andy Enfield is now guarantee so I would definitely want the chance of winning the Final Four for the first time. It took me a good hour to reply back since I keep looking at my after each stop. Thanks bro! Let me know if you anything else. I hope he wants to FIGHT ON!

          • 8 pm PST! Be sure to watch! It would be great if the TMB were in the background on blast!

    • Jack!
Just leaked!!!! This is all theatrics! Bagley committed along time ago!!!! Preseason #1 for sure!!!!! Final 4 here we come!!!

  2. In football they have blue scholarship, which lets a boy in this year and count against the schools for next year. Don’t they do that in basketball?

      • I don’t know. They call it a gray shirt at UCLA. I believe that the player then has to pay his own tuition in that scenario.
